Shit gave me chills.
now you've reminded me of why I didn't like Draenor, space goat jesus
I don't understand at all how it's "giving up creative freedom" to have PG violence and no blood. It's just a business going for the safe route to market a game. Go for the rating that makes certain everyone will be able to play it.
We don't know how much they had planned. Restraints are restraints. For all we know there are some things that will never see the light of day because "Nope. That will push it to a rated M rating."
Press "F" to smash Mei into gibs.
Media ratings are bad everywhere, though. (New Star Wars Spoiler) [sp] Star Wars had an ENTIRE PLANET FILLED WITH PEOPLE destroyed. Literal Genocide. [/sp]
But nah no blood, so it got the equivalent of a T rating.
Parents who listen to one of the worst rating systems of all time aren't too informed tbh
It didn't show [sp]piles of charred space corpses[/sp] so it's technically ok.
Also much as I know ESRB sucks, there has to be some kind of rating system, and no one has really challenged ESRB yet.
The whole lack of killing in this one felt really awkward.
He blew the guy shooting the minigun the fuck up though
And all the other dudes he roughed up and shot were in the grenade's explosion radius
Also much as I know ESRB sucks, there has to be some kind of rating system, and no one has really challenged ESRB yet.
ESRB is really bad compared to PEGI (European rating system) just because there's no middle ground between T and M which is unfortunate because the difference between T and M is the difference between Metroid Prime and Spec Ops: The Line. Meanwhile PEGI has 12+, 15+ (16+ in some countries iunno why) and 18+ which allows for games like Overwatch or TF2 to be put in the middle where they belong and not have to sacrifice in order to keep it kid friendly or put in the same group as extremely violent games.
By censoring what they originally intended.
They have to give up their creative freedom because an arbitrary rating system would cost them sales.
Yeah but it's just blood and knocking people out. I can think of far worse things to impact creative freedom than just people not bleeding.

I-I enjoyed Draenor :frown:

ESRB is not all that bad. At one point they added an E10+.:ok:

We've had 7+ for years

Maybe. But personally I see no reason to complain about it.
Overwatch should be rated

I agree. Rule 34 would be canon at that point.
Have any games actually needed that rating? :v:

You just want a naked roadhog don't you.
Actually, was Loadout rated A? I remember that had dong cosmetics.
I'm not too sure what people are asking for in the shorts. They're promos intended to show off the characters and promote the release of the game; I don't think they were going for revolutionary storytelling. I think the shorts seem fine, and accomplish what they set out to do.
I also kind of like the reduced emphasis on killing; gives it kind of a Disney feel, as if the character design wasn't enough. Poor Omnics though.

Nah it was M because no dong was shown.

Very few, the ones that do cut content to lower the ratings because most retail stores refuse to sell AO games.
[editline]Edited:[/editline]
And then there's the stupidity that happened with San Andreas's unused content :v:

I think it comes from Valve spoiling us with the Meet The Shorts series. Such high quality and story telling of colorful and interesting characters. And these Overwatch shorts are in the same vein pretty much.

Leisure Suit Larry and GTA: San Andreas back when the Hot Coffee mod was exposed.
Oh and Manhunt 2 before it was censored.

The Joy of Sex on CD-i. AO? more like A+.
I'm just happy they're even making shorts tbh
Maybe their writing will get better down the line

Cmon dude, naked Bastion is where it is at.
Why don't we have a map set on the Australian Wastelands, could be something interesting.

Blizzard have been making shorts for a long time now... their writing hasn't gotten any better.
I think I know why most of the good heroes don't really kill. Because they're Heroes. And studios have said they don't like making the Hero kill because it hurts what being a Hero is, or something like that.
Meanwhile Widowmaker can be a villain and not kill because she's a professional, like Agent: 47. She's not some mindless killer with a chaingun mowing her way to her target. She's a mindless killer that does her work like a Surgeon with a scalpel.

See, that would make sense for Soldier 76 if he hadn't entered a firefight guns-blazing with a cartel and shooting rockets at them, bashed a guys head in against the floor, had seriously considered going after the gangsters instead of saving the girl from the grenade and even said himself that he wasn't a hero anymore.

Well it's somewhat in character.
I can believe it is so they can get more sales. I just hate how they are giving up some creative freedom just to do it.
I mean fuck we are shooting people with guns. How is there no blood?
Isn't not having blood part of their creative freedom though. Like maybe it was a choice they made internally? That's creative freedom.
