as far as roleplaying goes I've only ever done jokey stuff with crew members, like that presidential campaign thing we do every once in a while

It's one thing to think up a story It's another to be an asshole to random people just because of it as an excuse It's not fun to others that you want to be "I kill potential bad guys lel"

It's not like I'm purposely acting like an asshole to people who aren't doing anything. Honestly, unless you're on PC (which I assume the majority of people here are), most people who approach to you and follow you randomly in Free Mode usually just do it to kill you. There have been plenty of times when I let people drive close and they usually are the ones who shoot first. Then I kill them and they being whinning and crying because "I wasn't trying to kill you lel". It's not being that much of an asshole if 90% of the playerbase is worse than you.

After recently turning on voice chat for the first time in a while, and hearing rednecks calling people "niggers" and "spics", I have to agree with what Nikolai said.

Just forgive me guys. I didn't want to start shit. I admit it was my fault because I kept being pushy with it, like, posting every once in a while "Yeah, I'm going to kill random people haha". Even going as far as making a 3 min story and pretend that it was my excuse to blow up people in Free Mode. Today I had my justice dessert delivered in the worst way imaginable. I spent a couple of minutes buying and doing VIP work, then when I was about to sell my cargo I noticed some guy hiding in a bush. I decided to take defensive action and spam Proximity Mines (my favorites), but the game started lagging real bad and the guy walked through every single mine without dying. I managed to deliver my cargo and then a second guy came from a garage and began shooting at me. I killed both of them, but then a rank 40 saw my 2nd truck sitting in some alley in Davis and blew it up. Effectively ruining my sale. I drove all the way back just to be finished off by my own Proximity Mine. I lost 400K and all my pride in a single run.

Speaking of backstories. The backstory for my character is that he's a chinese man named Wang Shouting and the running gag in our crew is that he doesn't understand a word of english. Makes heist cutscenes suddenly a lot funnier while somehow making them make more sense.

My character is a goth Russian chick named Natalya that inherited a lot of money from her mobster father when he died. Her brother Vlad is my second character. He's jealous that she got all the money, and now he and his crew are trying to hunt her down.

My character is just a guy I control to do missions and drive around.

Imagine sharing the account with the same person you're trying to kill but having no access to that money and then have that person disappear from existence every time you recover consciousness. He is doomed to go on an endless manhunt for the rest of his immortal life. A fate worse than death. My character's some small-time crim from paleto who moved to LC, mugged and killed a drug ring leader by mistake, and took their money, their phone and their identity with him back to LS. This explains why he doesn't speak. None of the contacts of the kingpin he killed had ever seen him, but they HAD heard him over the phone, so the moment he says anything around them the jig is up. [editline]t[/editline] Not so much a backstory as an explanation/justification as to why a very clearly early 20-something loser was able to acquire untold millions and a fleet of exotic supercars. None of it was his to begin with. He just kinda... found it, you know? Just laying around in a back alley on a dead guy that he happened to horribly murder for his wallet. We've all been there.

Like the thing I came up with for my character is basically she's just a Confidential Informant who is way to in to it and now thinks she's a secret agent. So half the time she runs around like a fucked up Sam Fisher in nightvision goggles. That is the extent of the creepiness I put in to her story.

Honestly coming up with at least a basic backstory for a create-a-character is half the fun, from the perspective of a writer anyway. Just... As with anything in a video game, don't take it too seriously.

GTA is perhaps not the most ideal platform for roleplaying, but giving your character some backstory ain't something to be ashamed of.
