The other recent nerfs to various items were unnecessary, but I'm actually okay with the stopwatch getting throttled. Once you got it, the game was basically over. I avoided it for because it's a guaranteed win every time, something you can't say even with stuff like Brimstone and the Soul That missing poster buff is godlike though.
People should get on the band wagon and call afterbirth the binding of Job. Because god hates you having fun
I think you are mistaking Epic Fetus with Dr. Fetus.
Dr Fetus is worse, but Epic Fetus' delay time can really fuck with you. At least it does with me a lot of the time.
I don't mind the stopwatch nerf too much, honestly. But this: Why have this at all? I'd rather have no jamming on the greed donation machine. I don't like to play greed mode to have shitty RNG jam after one penny when I have 50+ I don't know if I'm going to try to 100% this game again. Edmund isn't making very good choices as far as balance goes. It seems as though he wants the game to be competing with online F2P MMOs in levels of grind.
Its so you play as different characters. I think its what the busted donation machine percentage means when you beat greed. I think the suggestion of making the likelihood of it jamming go down overall with each character you beat it with would work better but who knows if its possible. [editline]19th November 2015[/editline]
I honestly find Blue Candle better than Red in most situations, it can do more damage before the flame goes away against large enemies and bosses, although maybe I'm just weird. EDIT: Just checked, Red Candle can do 125 Damage as it's hard cap, and Blue can do potentially 184 per flame. and if I recall correctly, Blue charges slightly faster?
Hm, it was always kinda hard to tell how much damage the flames do since they would wreck shit so quickly but I guess it makes sense. I just liked the red more because it gave you more defensive options with the lasting flame.
Having both is still highly beneficial to your non-Isaac runs, because you're twice as likely to see what's basically the same very good item in the shop. [editline]t[/editline] You know, I wouldn't mind seeing a blindfolded challenge using one of the candles somehow.
Is Edmund the one in charge of all balancing? Or is it a team effort from all of Nicalis?
This is like getting a hundred dollar steak at a restaurant and finding out that halfway through cooking, the chef trimmed off the tastiest parts
A more accurate analogy would be getting a steak, being told how to chew it, then the chef coming to your table and taking some of it out of your mouth so he can season it differently.
Is Edmund the one in charge of all balancing? Or is it a team effort from all of Nicalis?
He definitely suggests balancing as we know from the Azazel incident, but I bet others at Nicalis are responsible as well.
come on, did you ever really lose a run once you got the stopwatch? As soon as you bought it in the store the run might as well been completed
I barely beat hush with stop watch. Glad I did it before the patch because the new one would have done fuck all. There are plenty of rare, powerful items that greatly enhance your chance of winning. It's nice to get them once in a while.

It's nice to get them once in a while.
Actually since it activates after it gets hit it would've been only a little less useful than it's pre-buff form, at least for the Hush. I'm not too miffed that it got nerfed (even though I unlocked it only a few days ago...) but if they're gonna make it "balanced" it better not be a special item anymore.
If I get one more Goddamn Bob's Brain from a gold chest on CoTB as The Spoiler one more fucking time... holy shit this is stupid :/
I don't even have stopwatch unlocked and I think the nerf is stupid.
I think the whole of Afterbirth is stupid. There's massive backlash over everything that has gone on and I think it's right. I fucking love Isaac. I've had the original since day 1, pre-ordered Rebirth, pre-ordered Afterbirth, but Afterbirth is shit. I feel like I'm playing an MMO with the big grindy un-fun bosses and having to save up masses of coins to donate into a machine that will probably jam after 5. I'm probably just going to remove Afterbirth and play Rebirth because honestly they're ruining the fucking game for the sake of "lol it should be hard!" no! fuck you! It's a single player game, if I want to take Stopwatch because it's OP as fuck then who are you to tell me I can't. Fuck streamers, they're better at the game than 99% of people and you shouldn't nerf items because they avoid OP ones. Let's not forget that getting these OP as fuck items isn't even guaranteed -- what's next, are they going to nerf Godhead because it's too good? Absolutely stupid. If the stars align and I'm lucky enough to pick up Stopwatch I should be able to take it. In fact, I remember when Krampus' Head was nerfed in Rebirth. Why, exactly? There was a conscious decision to make it that good, why not keep it like that? Nobody is FORCING you to take it if you don't want to use it. This isn't an MMO, there's no reason to constantly tweak items at all. Once it's there, it's there. Don't get me started on how immature the fucking devs are. The whole Keeper 109 gated content 'ARG' shit.. Jesus Christ. I really hope people like Northernlion, Bisnap, Cobalt etc call Edmund out on this bullshit and don't just take it because this shit is fucking toxic. God damn, I feel like I've wasted thousands of hours of my life on this fucking game because this DLC has basically ruined it. (yes I'm quite salty.)
Afterbirth needed a delay
Don't get me started on how immature the fucking devs are. The whole Keeper 109 gated content 'ARG' shit.. Jesus Christ.
Most of the original time-gate drama was over a bug. Not intended. Personally, I really liked the ARG they actually had, even if I didn't take part in it.
I think all the complaining about the stopwatch being nerfed is unfounded. As it stands, it is still a ridiculously good item. Previously when you had the stopwatch effect active, you would almost never be hit by anything. It was essentially an auto-win. Now if you get hurt once, you are basically guaranteed to not take any damage for the rest of the room. That in itself is an extremely worthy pickup for 15 cents at the shop. No other item in the game allowed you to win so effortlessly as the old stopwatch. People often mention brimstone or epic/dr fetus as auto-win items in the same category as the stopwatch, but they are not. I'm certain everyone died their first time using those items. I know that I did. Now that we are better players, when we pick up those items we are able to use them to their full potential and kick ass. Old stopwatch was an item with no skill required. The old stopwatch was on its own level of good. You could give it to a noob and he or she could easily get past mom on his or her first try. Instead if you give them mom's knife, they aren't likely to make it past the caves. I think it's great that OP items require a certain amount of skill on the player's part. The stopwatch didn't require skill and needed a nerf. Edmund has rebalanced the game so that individual items aren't so potent. Anyone remember old WoTL polyphemus? It used to be incredibly good. In rebirth, poly is a good item that definitely helps win a run, but it is not such a guaranteed victory like it was in the old game. In my opinion, having weaker individual items makes beating the game more reliant on synergies, a unique selling point of the isaac series. Why bother coding tons of synergies if you just need one item to win? It sucks for Edmund because he knows that nerfing the stopwatch is the right thing to do. Unfortunately the community is already a little upset about the whole 109 shenanigans and were ready to pounce on any negative change to the game as an attack on fun. So he gets called out on reddit and facepunch and everywhere else as a bad game developer for not catering to his fans, despite the other positive changes he's made (lost starting with the holy mantle comes to mind). I say let the man balance the game however he wants. He has done a great job perfecting his vision of The Binding of Isaac and I hope he insulates himself from poor criticism from the community. Especially those who haven't unlocked and played with the item denouncing his balance changes.
In fact, I remember when Krampus' Head was nerfed in Rebirth. Why, exactly? There was a conscious decision to make it that good, why not keep it like that? Once it's there, it's there.
That reminds me, I'm kind of surprised they never went back on the krampus head decision. It's pretty much one of the lowest-tier space items now, and I never pick it up unless I have NO other item. It really has been about reducing the amount of fun people have, because people complain all the time about underpowered or otherwise shitty items that they hate, and those never get buffed. Those have gone largely unchanged since launch. But the items people love, those are the ones that need to be revised. Then there's shit like tiny planet that is a straight-up run-killer most of the time if you actually pick it up. Nobody ever DOES unless they've got curse of the blind. It only exists for that one gimmicky challenge, and to look cool in the trailers, but there is practically nothing positive about it, except a handful of very obscure synergies.
I nominate The Stain as the new shittiest boss ever (worse than Mask) for vanishing for about 20 seconds and then popping up right underneath me. If that was a Lost run I would have gone apeshit.
Polycephalus (the boss Stain is based on) has a nasty habit of doing this as well. [editline]t[/editline] Also I'm starting to think normal mode is broken in my game somehow. Every single run I'm cursed on most if not all floors and champions are everywhere. The hell gives?
Most of the original time-gate drama was over a bug. Not intended. Personally, I really liked the ARG they actually had, even if I didn't take part in it.
The original gated items weren't from a bug, that's just the term Edmund used because he's not the programmer responsible for it. In actuality, it was incompetence. Whoever was in charge of the config files never actually added approximately 40 items into the item pools. They were all inside the game and functional, just not accessible by means other than manipulating item IDs to force spawns. When an expansion advertises 120 items, it's nothing short of developer mishandling when around 33% of it is just plain inaccessible. The only reasonable excuse I can think of is them having pulled an outdated pools config. Then again, why would anyone pull something that's so sorely outdated? Let alone not immediately making notice of the mistake to dissolve any hostility that would arise when the playerbase inevitably finds out what's wrong. The last part is Ed's fault, but let's be real...Tyrone and the Nicalis team is wholly capable of communication as well, they just let Ed take the reigns since he's the director.
People were so pissed about the time-gate because they kept fueling the fire over twitter by tweeting 109 constantly. Also, the Stop Watch costs 999 gold to unlock it via donation machine and then requires you to actually find it and buy it. I think it deserves to be a little overpowered instead of being just kinda bad now. Any item that encourages you hurting yourself in a game where health can either be extremely common or extremely rare is kind of bad, unless it's on characters like Eve or Samson.
the base content of afterbirth is great, but everything besides new items/bosses/characters/etc has been a huge clusterfuck that's pretty much totally drained my incentive to play it anymore if someone makes an un-nerf mod, i'll install it and maybe have fun again, but until then, i'm probably done with the game, having beaten all the bosses and played as every character quite a bit
You know what would be a great mod One that only has the new items, characters and greed mode, and nothing else is changed at all. IE, no new bosses, no thin boss rooms, no puzzle rooms, none of that. Just Rebirth with all the good stuff added.
Alright, I need this ??? run to work, better check in on the devil room to see what I can get Just press the button and... [t]http://i.imgur.com/WiK19A8.jpg[/t] Well died to that complete load of bullet hell bullshit. Aknh kicked in and spawned be back. I'll give it a try next floor. [t]http://i.imgur.com/fCSoqBN.jpg[/t] Well fuck right off then. Stain is quickly becoming my least favorite boss. It's bullshit alone, it's bullshit in groups, it appears way too early in the main mode, and you have 2 floors you can potentially to fight it on compared to things like Cage and MoI which only have one.
Try fighting two Forsakens, where they both do their spinning brimstone attacks in opposite directions so it's literally impossible to not get hit.
Try fighting two Forsakens, where they both do their spinning brimstone attacks in opposite directions so it's literally impossible to not get hit.
Oh trust me I have. The only thing saving forsaken is that I find the boss to be pretty fun when fought one at a time, albeit easier than its 'weaker' counterpart. Stain is in every aspect.
Try fighting two Forsakens, where they both do their spinning brimstone attacks in opposite directions so it's literally impossible to not get hit.
This is why I think rotating brimstone needs to be 100% clockwise. Some enemies mix it up and it's really jarring. [editline]t[/editline] OR, have brimstone lasers block other brimstone lasers, so you can safely transition from one to the other without a scissor point.
