I must admit, I'm looking forward to some more refined modding tools. I've recently been trying out basement renovator to create rooms, and I'm having a blast!
Just stumbled upon this randomly, don't think it was posted yet. A good look at Afterbirth+ and the extent of the modding. EXCELLENT boss fight at about 6:15
Not Isaac news but it's related. From here: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2016-10-13-fps-roguelike-polygod-is-free-for-those-with-certain-the-binding-of-isaac-achievements
FPS roguelike Polygod is free for those with certain The Binding of Isaac achievements In order to claim an Early Access code for Polygod, players will have had to have completed ONE of the following achievements in The Binding of Isaac, then send a message to Steam account Atomicdomb from the Steam account that unlocked the achievement. Hard Game Eternal Satan Eternal Cain Eternal Isaac Eternal ??? Eternal Maggy Eternal Eve Eternal Samson Eternal Judas Eternal God Eternal Personalities
Emphasis on one is mine, you only need one of 'em to get a key. I've played 40 minutes of it and I gotta say it's pretty neat. If you guys have one of these achievements I would say give it a try.
Blog has been updated. iOs version of Isaac has been approved by apple :toot:

New blog post: http://bindingofisaac.com/post/153201876719/become-a-true-hero
BECOME A TRUE HERO! As most of you know Afterbirth+ is 2 things, its a sizable update with new items, enemies, bosses, challenges and achievements as well as a new playable character, new final chapter and boss/ending (as well as a ton of other stuff i cant remember). Afterbirth + also includes indepth mod tools for the community to run wild with and continue to build onto isaac long after we close the book on it. but how can we combine both of these aspects of the expansion into one mega feature of awesomeness? well a few months ago i had an idea… what if we pulled from the mod community once a month and updated the game with the best item/challenge or other awesome feature (card, enemy, boss, etc) to turn the best aspects of popular mods into real life ingame playable/unlockable goodness! so thats the plan, once AB+ is out and the community starts running wild with mod insanity, ill be peeking in on reddit and looking out for my favorite new additions. ill hand pick my favorite stuff, (with a little help from the fans and possibly a twitter poll or 2) toss it to the team and said content will be added to the main game officially! this is a feature im really looking foward to, i feel like ive personally scraped the barrel when it comes to item design and feel quite depleted, but im positive that there are a ton of cool ideas out there that are so left field that they MUST be added to the main game. so once this thing releases, its time to prove your worth! COME ON DESIGNERS! MAKE IT WORK! speaking of release, one of the most common questions these days is “when isaac!?”, now i cant say we have a set release date just yet… we are currently in testing and finalizing achievements, but are running into some minor release overlap issues with the holiday rush. what i can say is AB+ will release in the next 60 days on steam the goal has always been to release at the very end of the year and are still shooting for it but there are some things that are a bit out of our control. once we land the release date, ill be doing a release date trailer post, which is quite awesome btw. ill close this isaac update with a new enemy tease, “walking stony” these guys are alts to fatties and pale fatties, they are unkillable walking stone walls that only die if you kill all other enemies in the room. on a side note, when designing enemies with the AB+ tools, try your best to design enemy alts.. they can be totally new enemies but adding new enemies at this point is only realistic if they run as alts to existing enemies due to not being able to also design 100s of new rooms that feature said enemies, so keep that in mind when modding ;)
The rest is updates on his other 2 projects which look real neat.
The aspect of adding mods to the game officially sounds quite nice, he mentioned it before on his stream with Florian. I just hope the quality of stuff that get added stays decent.
To add - mods won't be coming to consoles. Steam only.
We got a new blog post yesterday! Afterbirth+ will be out by the end of the year, and we should expect a release date next week. Alos they're considering another loyalty discount similar to what they gave AB back when they came out. New items: Clicker Pause
Clicker seems rather useless outside of just fucking around for laughs, unless it can let you cheap out a last minute victory requirement for another character, in which case nice. Pause seems pretty handy, tho. Also I hope that release date reveal comes in the form of a fucked up trailer. Can't waitttt
Neither seem like one's I'd pick up tbh. Pause will probably have its uses but there's a number of active item's I'd use before it. Clicker looks like one where you're just asking to get screwed over the second you get switched to Lost, ???, or Keeper.

(hows that for specific huh!?) - a new final chapter! (yes i said chapter) - a new final boss! - a new playable character! - a new “greedier” greed mode! - a shit ton of new achievements! (62 to be exact) - 5 achievement “challenges”! - 100s of new rooms! ( tons of new ultra rare rooms ) - new victory lap feature! (allows the game to continue when finished) - bestiary! (enemy collection page that keeps track of everything you kill in game) - 5 new challenges! - 2 new transformations! - small monthly content updates! ( every month after release we will be updating the game with our favorite fan made designs, monsters, items maybe even challenges? who knows… i may also toss a few of my own modded designs in if you are good!) - 4+ new bosses and a new alt forms for existing bosses! - a handful of new enemies, features and new champion forms! - new cut scenes and music tracks! - other stuff im forgetting because i cant keep track of anything in this game at this point.
Which language are the dev tools based on? I read something about lua but that was a while ago.
The modding stuff is still in Lua, but for room making / animations etc, they have their own programs you can use.
i got two steam sales and a restock, i didn't even know that was a thing until now [editline]15th December 2016[/editline] lol this might actually stop my binding of isaac binge until I can get home for winter break and show my brother
https://antibirth.com/
Oh man I'd download that just for the proper coop mode. Sounds so fun splitting powerups between a friend instead of the weird baby system.
Holy shit that looks fun Glad to see The Pile made into a boss, always thought it was way cooler than the stain as the official posthumous polycephalus
I was worried that the stuff Kilburn showed us in this thread would never see the light of day after he stopped posting here. I'm very hyped for this!
https://antibirth.com/
Thought this was official and afterbirth+ got renamed until I got down to "Is it free? Yes!" Seriously, the improved co-op is so long-needed.
Also just to remember what one of the bosses was.

So much better than the Stain.
I wonder if it'll be possible to have graphics mods in Afterbirth+ as curses. What I mean, is to rarely have 'curse of the hats' or something, and have it replace all whitelisted enemies with a reskin of them wearing a hat.
Antibirth is now out. Direct download link
Boss rush crashed me so maybe don't go in there.
The polish on the new content in this mod is astounding So much cool new stuff that I feel like AB+ is gonna feel like the fan mod in the end
Boss rush crashed me so maybe don't go in there.
I also crashed entering a super secret room, and I crashed when Bum Friend picked up a ton of coins. I also crashed for some other reason I can't remember. I think I'm gonna hold off for a bit to see if this stuff gets fixed or if it's an issue on my end. The mod is beautiful though, I mean really it's awesome. I just wish it would stop crashing!
The polish on the new content in this mod is astounding So much cool new stuff that I feel like AB+ is gonna feel like the fan mod in the end
Afterbirth itself already feels like a fan mod to me.
From what I can gather, it's probably relating to a particular item, 'cause I had it reliably crash going into a treasure room. Guessing there's a missing bit of item art, or something like that. The crashes aside, Antibirth seems pretty great so far, the new stuff is really interesting, and one of the new characters has a neat and fairly unique mechanic: [sp]storing soul hearts as spare item charges, but they can't be used as health. [/sp]
Antibirth stutters constantly for me, Rebirth and Afterbirth do not.
I can't imagine how long it took the Antibirth team to either retexture each and every champion form of monsters and bosses or otherwise replace the tinting system with an actual palette system but the end result is so much nicer than in vanilla.
