So when he says it will "go live" on the 3rd, does that mean it releases on the 3rd, or it just appears on the store page to purchase on the 3rd?
Because if it actually RELEASES on the 3rd, that's giving people a very tiny window to get that pre-purchase discount, since it's not yet on steam.
Watch them try to charge money for the mod "booster pack" too.

IIRC it's supposed to be on discount for the first week instead of during the preorder period. Seems like there's no preorder period at all with the small window we've got left.

edmund said they'll all be free
Edmund has said a lot of things.
I mean, we had to pay for bug fixes. Lotta problems with Rebirth weren't fixed until afterbirth, and those fixes require afterbirth.

Of every complaint that people have made, this is the one that barely anyone mentions yet deserves the most focus imo. New content is one thing, but fixes for content that was already there absolutely shouldn't be confined to a DLC.

And the trend is continuing considering refined mod support shouldn't be behind 20$ of dlc.
Alright I see the problems now. The issue I had was that it seemed like everyone was angry for no reason, so thank you all for explaining. Gameplay changes/fixes being in DLC only is really bad. I had never thought of that.
Damn I wish Afterbirth+ had come out before the long weekend. I'm super keen for it now.
Welp I won't be able to buy it when it comes out. Not having money sucks.
The hands down most disappointing thing about Afterbirth for me was the new alt chapters.
They looked nice but had literally no gameplay/difficulty differences compared to the originals. All the new enemies are just literal reskins of existing enemies and there aren't even new bosses to go with them like the WoTL chapters.
Antibirith's new chapters were everything Afterbirth's should have been.
I finally realized that I wasnt having fun with afterbirth, and its problem is its artificial difficulty. Was playing antibirth and was amazed by how many tinted rocks I saw, turns out it was afterbirths problem...

Afterbirth is shit and made me give up on BoI
keeper is what made me give up afterbirth. he's just completely unfun to play
Giving up on a game because of a character?
Anyway, I liked the challenge of the Keeper. Probably hard a harder time getting all the endings with him than I did with the Lost somehow!

Don't forget the unbalanced difficulty curve. Burning Basement is stupid sometimes. Treasure rooms with the items blocked by spikes, why? Double Key rooms literally filled with shit? For what purpose.
Just started playing this game. I didn't like it at first, but then I uninstalled Afterbirth and got Antibirth. Makes the game so much more enjoyable. Feels like a completely different experience.
Just compare the blue things that spawn blue chargers in the flooded depths to the things that spawn leeches in the downpour
a much more enjoyable enemy with completely new aesthetics instead of just being a reskin

I know everyone enjoys the super secret Flooded Caves room that contains literally nothing.
I really wonder how much of Afterbirth was playtested considering there's a number of rooms and scenarios that are simply unfair and completely ignore player skill.

My absolute favorite Afterbirth room was the Angel Room with nothing but three coins and a statue in it. I don't think it even had blue fires for you to try and get soul hearts from.

And keep in mind this was added after the majority of people thought angel rooms were underpowered as (pun intended) hell.
Making angel rooms even worse than before was a really bad idea imo.
Don't forget tiny rooms! Those are so fun!

Some people are just being pedantic about little things just to get on the hate bandwagon I think.
If the 'poo' super secret room had been there since the original, no one would care; I think the problem people have is that some changes in Afterbirth really tend to challenge people's preconceived notions of what they feel entitled to. Basically stop assuming anything is ever free and relish the challenge.

Just to clarify, I'm not saying every bit of criticism is invalid. Just that some things aren't really worth hating the game over. The game isn't perfect, but I can say I love it. I've poured hundreds of hours into it and I'm excited to pour in a bunch more with the expansion tomorrow.
Buddy, it's a single player game that you, presumably, paid for. Twice, in most cases.
'These really arbitrary changes by the developer that weren't advertised as features negatively impact my play experience' (especially that damn black poop secret room that pops up about once every other playthrough) doesn't have jack shit to do with entitlement or difficulty.

Well normally developers don't add things in after the fact that make the game objectively less fun.
There's a difference between having something that people don't like and having something people like and just turning it into something people don't like.
I feel like Edmund ( and potentially some people at Nicalis as well, ofc ) want to make Isaac this "Tough as Nails" rogue-like where you play as hard characters and are constantly pitted up against insanely difficult rooms and enemies and bosses at early points in the game, and that becoming truly powerful is "less fun" in comparison
Which is dumb and stupid. I love being a powerful fucking tyrant and actually enjoying the earlier floors, and not feeling like it's going to be a wasted run if my first item isn't damage or some kind of tear or health modifier, which without, I'm almost destined to take shitloads of pain and have not much fun until I actually do get that type of item.
Isaac should be good and truly fun and have items that can be described as simply "broken" or "fun", and not just be this game of chance where the cards are stacked against you, who the fuck would want to play that? Antibirth does an exceptionally good job at making sure that everything added and changed around is actually fun and enjoyable, and not just "fuck you now it's harder"
There are tinted rocks all over the place making you a lot more survivable despite the rooms being incredibly hard at times. I've also seen some very inventive rooms in the mines and mausoleum, as well as some very cruel ones, but they're all good fun.
I feel like Antibirth ramped up difficulty in the right way. Instead of having items locked behind a bed of spikes or putting in rooms that serve to do nothing more than hit you with free damage, or add more bogus items that cost you valuable potential item slots, have your run be more focused on item knowledge with the double item rooms and make all the enemies shoot more bullets and have more complex attack patterns. Getting through Antibirth is tough but at least when I died I felt as if it was mostly my fault and not just the game shitting up my run for the hell of it.
Just played antibirth with Azazel and got the Eye of the Occult. Go home brimstone, you're drunk.
It feels particularly cool when the difficulty isn't just a bunch of enemies and bullets in a tiny room, but instead enemies that synergize with each other. Plus I've spotted some funny looking rooms like a bunch of normal flies completely surrounding a shield generator, or a maze with masks where you need to find teleporters to kill the hearts. That's another point, afterbirth had very few rooms, I felt like I saw the same room over and over, I'm also noticing that the Antibirth rooms are far more memorable, because I do remember that I've only ever seen many of them once. Curse of the giant is pretty dastardly since they really ramp up the difficulty on large rooms, while other large rooms are just a ton of free chests and consumables if you get through some simple spike timings.

That item with Brimstone is really hard to aim, but it's amazing with tears.
