Found this, I doubt it's real. But could you imagine blocking off the exit when you were trying to block the item?
The balance(?) update is set to launch later tomorrow (source

"My greatest dream is a world with a buffed Krampus Head"
I just tried antibirth and was blown away. It feels like they put so much care into everything i've seen so far. Every attack is telegraphed or at least has an avoidable pattern. The ideas behind items and bosses make so much sense they feel natural. A lot of rooms and enemies i've seen so far are evil and difficult, but not unfair. [sp]I've actually spent time fighting bosses, to the point i'm unsure if ??? has different patterns or if i've just destroyed him too quickly every time i've met him before. Unsure if it's a health buff or just some sort of HP scaling, but unlike Hush/Ultra Greed, it felt like the amount of time i should be spending fighting a boss even with somewhat ridiculous damage. Even if i still got the weird 3 soul heart angel room, it seems they're generally stronger like they should be, and killing the angel seems to consistently spawn decent drops too.[/sp] I'm not sure if the movement is changed, but it definitely feels super snappy and responsive even with huge speed, which i can't remember being the case since i got burnt out after afterbirth.
I had tons and tons of fun throughout it all even if the runs i had were relatively shitty. That speaks lots about the quality of Antibirth. I haven't been able to say that for ages.
I had a idea for a rare enemy and I wonder how well it would go over. It doesn't come in packs, just one every here are there and can appear on any floor but it's this miserable decrepit looking Isaac clone that's holding a random heart pickup.
It beelines for Isaac as soon as you enter a room and if it touches you... it heals you! A little boop sound effect plays as the frown turns into a smile and the enemy despawns on it's own. Present get.
Catch is if you hit it before it delivers the heart to you it'll drop the item and it breaks- the enemy's skin turns black and it gets hush like armor (still a VERY small hp pool) and it dashes at you wildly trying to do contact damage.
Sounds like an interesting "enemy", though it'd make you have to think twice before letting loose all hell on your enemies.
And while we're talking about new ideas, how about an item that increases the damage of your tears dependent on how fast you are moving in the direction of your tears? It'd encourage you to charge into battle to maximize your damage, though simultaneous make you somewhat impotent if you're firing while retreating.
nicalis is just a bad studio that makes up for it by "communicating", which just means memes on twitter and reddit
I still won't forgive them for their Cave Story soundtrack.
First time watching the co-op babies with AB+

I'm going to make this now. Wish me luck tia
Ok it seems the half spirit hearts do NOT replace regular fixed spirit heart drops and only can spawn from regular random drops

Have fun with those amazing modding tools.

At least you could switch to the original soundtrack though, right?
I didn't like how they changed all the dialogue, but I figured maybe they didn't have the rights to use the original translator's work for some reason. And at least the gameplay itself was solid.
I'm really curious to know where all the bad decisions of BoI have been coming from. Like, Rebirth was a near perfect product. It was a massive leap forward from the Flash Isaac. Afterbirth was still PRETTY good too, but then they also started making all these awful anti-consumer changes which only got worse with AB+, and I don't imagine they have much of a mind to change them.
There have been these tweets about how they're going to "re-balance" AB+, but I imagine that only means nerfing certain UNINTENTIONALLY difficult rooms, and not backtracking on some godawful design choices like making treasure rooms with no treasure, or punishing players for using the reset button.
Hey, just wanted to clear a few things up since there have been a few chatlogs and misconceptions going around.
First of all, holy shit you guys blew this way out of proportion.
It's true that I am having doubts about how the Afterbirth+ port will happen exactly but I never said it would never happen.
We were planning to make it compatible with AB and AB+ right from the beginning (hell, even the site mentions it, go check it out).
Yes we have pride in our work. We've been working on this thing for 2 years, I paid 4000 bucks out of my own pocket to get this soundtrack done, and then an extra 1800 bucks worth of bandwidth on release day due to the massive influx of downloads.
We invested a lot into this so I'd say it's only natural for us to be protective of it, even if in the end, it's still a mod for a game that isn't ours.
I've had a lot of bad experiences with other programmers so I have trouble trusting them with my code, which is why I'd rather be in charge of the programming if we go official.
Being in charge of the programming would mean being hired by Nicalis (at least temporarily), which would most likely mean losing some creative freedom, having to conform to certain standards, and not being able to interact with the community as much.
If that's the case, that would be a major deal breaker for us.
A backport is more tempting at this point because we would get to keep the mod in working condition while gradually adding features from AB and AB+ back into it via periodic updates.
Even the Lua modding support would be perfectly possible to replicate since Antibirth already has something quite similar (we were planning to have Lua scripting from the beginning but stopped working on it when AB+ was announced), meaning that mods would still be supported, and by extension monthly content updates as well.
On top of that, since we would remain fully unofficial, we would be able to experiment around with radical gameplay changes without any limitations.
Finally, I would find it a lot more enjoyable than having to rewrite something I've already coded before.
Even though Antibirth is coded in C++, it uses a lot of hacks and workarounds that most likely wouldn't apply to AB+, meaning that many of the new items or enemies would need to be completely rewritten.
If done properly, there would be absolutely no visible difference between a backport of AB/AB+ features into Antibirth and a port of Antibirth to AB/AB+.
There would be no legal issues either since we wouldn't provide the resource files, meaning that you'd still need the DLCs to get their content loaded into the game.
This also means Antibirth wouldn't become an AB+ exclusive, you'd be able to play it regardless of whether you have Rebirth, Afterbirth or Afterbirth+.
If you only have Rebirth, only the Rebirth content would be loaded, and so on.
In the end though, none of this is set in stone yet. We are in good terms with Edmund and we are still waiting for Tyrone to elaborate on how an official port might happen.
It's true that I think the Void is an underwhelming final floor and stepped out of line as an initial reaction, and I apologize for that, we don't want to be hating on anyone here, we really appreciate the support for Antibirth so far, and we definitely don't want to disappoint.
I'm surprised there's no oil tears, that drop on the floor, can kill, but primarily coat enemies in oil. They would massively boost the power of fire, you can even cry a circle on the ground and create a defensive or offensive ring of fire.
Out of everything I hear people bitch about I'm surprised nobody has complained about red hearts that RUN AWAY FROM YOU. I accidently ran into one of the tear shooting grimaces trying to catch a heart and fucking died.

That sounds brilliant though
The Mod API is kind of badly designed. I can't figure out how to actually change any of Isaac's stats.

From what I understand the API only allows for reskins of items, characters, rooms, bosses etc. You can't actually make new stuff.

Nah you can make some basic items with the stuff given. I made this earlier today
Documentation could be a lot better though.
It seems I want to work with Entity_Tear but that doesn't even exist in the documentation.
Great.
wow I'm fucking furious
I was doing an antibirth run and was so excited I had Dr. Fetus
until I pick up an item I had never seen before that makes every bomb do that stupid rock blast effect
meaning everytime I shot a bomb as my only attack I almost always hit myself until I died
fuck this game :c

Bosses in Antibirth for the most part don't seem to be mostly dps gates, but have respectably low health pools to make it very possible to beat them with no damage items. This goes for all bosses in the basement and downpour.
If you somehow have no damage items on the mines (unlikely since you've had a nice selection by now) you can still kill the cartimp with bombs quite easily, and the spider and Great Gideon will take some effort but could be worse.
Is the siren rarer than the other mausoleum bosses? Never seen it yet.

Yeah I always ignore rock blast.
The five bombs are nice but do I really want to forget about it later and take stupid damage or make it really hard to use them in active combat? Using it with doctor fetus sounds nightmarish.
jesus christ, that's not even funny kind of deaths like a dark souls style beatdown
that's just literal artificial difficulty bullshit
I think it's safe to say at this point team penis > nicalis

They added chests that look normal but will turn into spiked chests the moment you try to open them, Cobalt tried to open one of those with 1 hp on Cathedral.
Right now there's literally no indication that it's a trap, so he got completely screwed out of his run.
What possessed them to change those?
Before they would be spiked from the get go and it added depth because you were forced to choose between health and the potential for more items.
Now it's just a matter of, "One in every hundred chests will deal surprise damage to you, so you better be cautious when you open them up except, whoops, you can't because there is no real way to disarm or check them and you need all the items you can get in this game, go fuck yourself."

I didn't want to laugh but the death music made that kinda funny. Really though what an amazing amount of bullshit, why does that thing exist.

The normal spiked chests still exist too. It's really obnoxious, you have to be careful when you have low health now. A mimic type enemy would have been more fun and wouldn't have probably cost me several runs already.
The game is increasingly less about skill and more about having sheer luck with item spawns, you almost have to have a broken combo of pickups

Oh, that's good to hear. I've encountered a number of mimic chests but have yet to encounter any spiked chest at all, so I figured they'd reworked them.
