If it had online i'd be doing co-op.
It actually makes me extremely angry there is people on the twitter post saying it's not needed.
Not everyone has someone they can play with locally but people generally have A LOT of people to play with online (This is why Spelunky not having online sucks too).
This is why we can never have good things. People actually talking against adding a feature that really should be in there if local co-op is also a stupid as hell. No game this day and age should be "Local co-op" only.
Absolutely agreed. A PC game should never be local co-op only.
Apparently Dr. Fetus + Oculus Rift + Whatever else I had = a rift approximately 10 times the size of the room that kills everything on the screen.

well netcode can be tricky on a shoestring budget and size, but the game has been around for a while.
so I would say once it's big enough it shouldn't have only local multiplayer, though I'd say all multiplayer should be at least local. Split screen for only console version of a game is terrible.

Let's hope now with modding someone will try to make online coop, it worked for nuclear throne :v:

not to be a shitty little contrarian here but as an avid local coop player there are so few titles that even support local multiplayer that i would flip that around and say it should never be online only
given, especially, that online coop requires substantially more work than local
more online is great for those that use it, but in general local coop players are left in the dust

I entirely agree, as a friend and I who live in different cities both really love Isaac, and we'd love to play together. The closest thing we can do to co-op now is do a daily or a seed at the same time and compare score and time at the end. I'd kill for online co-op, even if it was just with the stupid babies.

I guarantee you that there is substantially less people that play local co-op over online co-op.
i've done local isaac co-op a few times. it's fun, but i'm not dying for it. I feel like seeds and dailies gave me most of my multiplayer urges for the game. the co-op babies are a shame in that I have seen 1% of them, but I think i'll probably just work with someone for a mod pickup that gives you a random co-op baby out of the entire pool as a familiar or something
MAYBE go through all of them and give them unique stats, so they're not almost all brother bobby's or something

Why not a copy of the incubus? It's how the co-op babies kind of act anyway.

I mean, maybe. if i'm going to posit that a new item should exist, i'd be more inclined to give it a unique effect rather than a reskin
Why not have both local and online? Local only for a game millions of people play in this day in age is pretty dumb, but also not being able to play said game with someone who is in the same damn room is equally as dumb.
One thing that'd be really cool is a feature for seed races.
Me and a buddy of mine love to race with the same seed and having a mode that does that automatically would be neat.

I don't disagree at all; however I am of the (consumer-level) opinion that if one can develop online coop, local splitscreen should be just as if not easier, especially for the PC market.
I think demand for local coop will increase in the future as well. People who grew up in the 90s first really came to coop with the explosion of Xbox live in the 2000s, which allowed us to easily play with friends without needing to coordinate with parents / parental supervision. But those people are now getting older and "settling down" with long term partners (who may very well be interested in gaming, as is my case) or even possibly children. And in such instances, the drive for a local, family/friend driven experience will increase. This is obviously pure speculation on my part. That said, board gaming has seen a large uptick in sales in recent years and is in many ways experiencing a golden age, and it seems that demand for in-person gaming (whether analog or digital) is on the rise.
Local co-op is fine and there is no issue with that, but I do think people should focus on online co-op before local simply because it would draw more people in. Local co-op for half the people here is simply unused content you can't access because either you're busy, don't have time to spend with friends, have college/work taking up your time, etc. I am one of those people, I just think "Wow, that sounds really cool to try, too bad I can't". Online lets you play with others near instantly instead of waiting for someone to arrive with their belongings with their car which uses gas just to play a game or two of Isaac, then leave. That wouldn't make sense and it's a waste of time if someone is just coming over for a game, not only that, I am sure most of us are antisocial nerds. It's why I tend to stick to playing with my best friends and whatnot online, because I don't have to worry about meeting up with them, and we can have some fun without the worry or hassle of going places.
All I hope for is that if it doesn't become a thing, someone should mod it. That is all I'd want.
Sorry to promote my own stuff, but I finally finished my plagues of egypt mod.
I'm pretty happy with how the items function, and the guy behind the costumes did a wonderful job!

It's really hard to just add proper multiplayer to a game. You can tack on something janky and half-assed like the Just Cause or old GTA mods, but adding proper multiplayer that really works well essentially requires rewriting the entire game engine from the ground up.
I've made single and multiplayer games before, I can understand why the designers don't want to touch that.
I'd love for Isaac to have LAN coop. One of my room mates plays, it would be a blast to do a coop run proper. Network speed might be an issue with as fast paced Isaac if they were to attempt non LAN play
Welp ruined a 33 minute Witness run. Went through several floors multiple times through dice rooms by using a pill that happened to be a telepill that took me to an I AM ERROR room which resulted me being forced to Sheol. I made so many fucking preparations for this Witness run and I fucking had it only for it to be ruined by some of the worst RNG I've ever had. I don't even know why I AM ERROR is inescapable considering how it can pull shit like that which ruins what would be otherwise good runs.
yeah i also unwittingly fucked up a witness run earlier today with Jacob

lmao god i hope they fix this because that's just silly that this matters
Definitely do not pick up any cards or pills on knife piece floors as Jacob.

afaik kilburn added code specifically to fix this but it's not working :v

Between this and having double the effective hitbox, I think Jacob should at least get inate There's Options, Humbling Bundle and maybe Contract From Blow to compensate.

I think the code was added, but there's been no updates for a while, so we haven't got that code yet :/

No, the code implemented was before launched. This bug was pointed out on reddit on day one and kilburn was confused because he thought he pre-emptively fixed it already.
So I found a bug(Probably) in Antibirth yesterday. If you have revive ability and die on the final form of rotgut it spawns you in the center of the boss room with rotgut 1st phase alive again. And you immediately die because you're touching rotgut. But then it teleports you back inside rotgut and revives you there to fight his final phase again.
I looped back and forth on that boss a few times(Had 9 lives) and on my last life, managed to beat him. RNGesus was pleased and gave me a devil deal with Abaddon in it and I managed to defeat Witness with 2 hearts remaining.

Oh my bad, maybe I was thinking of something else.
[editline]17th January 2017[/editline]
Just found this on the workshop
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=844440401&searchtext=
An item that gives a random co-op baby as a familiar each floor with random tear effects.
Neat!
Speaking of witness run fuck ups again, i went from fucking ecstatic that i won with a single heart left
http://i.imgur.com/mg8P7tP.jpg
to devastated when the boss' fat ass landed right on top of the chest, fully blocking me from touching it
http://i.imgur.com/BsuMyCs.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/3pUNcMr.jpg
even in death he still wins
(but no eventually i realized i could just exit to the menu and back again to despawn the body. thank fuck)
so I've been playing greed mode lately loads
super protip? want to win as any character? just keep resetting until you get Lusty Blood
this is how Ive wonevery time
I don't like greed mode much but I'm too worn down to reset 100% of my progress for Anti-birth since it wont' accept afterbirth save files
It won't? My afterbirth save file worked just fine.
Did you reinstall afterbirth after installing antibirth?

well you have to uninstall afterbirth to make antibirth run, right? so I can't use The Lost or use a lot of the items since I unlocked them with afterbirth
