Assassin's Creed: History is your (glitched) Playground
I think the best thing to do is play through the main story first before doing the side quests. The story progresses along with your level pretty consistently so you really aren't ever out-leveled by enemies and the story stays interesting long enough to keep you engaged
my problem is that I'm a completionist and so I won't leave a region until I've 100%ed it. By the time I got halfway through the main story I was so bored of the game I could barely muster the energy to finish it. I think it'd have been a better payoff on my part if I just did the main story first and then the side stuff later
True, I'm still contemplating if I should really try to go for full completion. The game itself is just really enjoyable to play and collecting things and doing quests is actually fun. But I guess it would probably take up a lot of time. Furthermore there are still entire areas that I haven't even set foot on.
To be honest I'm waiting for the new game plus mode so I'll be able to record all those sweet void rooms/memory corridors
100% is probably the easiest in Origins vs the rest of the series
The regions players haven't been to by the end of the game are typically the nearly completely empty deserts
That's such a shame too. The map is damn huge and I was always excited to see what was in it, even in those larger spans of deserts.
I've been playing this game and I absolutely hate the leveling system.
It shouldn't be here. There is no value to it being there and it just makes exploring a massive chore seeing as you have to carefully tapdance around areas that are too high level, even in cities that are very clearly marked as within your level otherwise.
Not to mention that anything three levels above you is unkillable. It's hard to feel immersed when you randomly run across enemies who look, speak and act like any other NPC, but soak in hits like they're made of titanium and one hit kill you.
Oh and the bow and arrow gameplay is awful thus far, there's something about the camera that makes it way too difficult to aim, there's zero indicator of whether you are about to get shot meaning it's very easy to get sniped offscreen. Enemies are so fucking fast with aiming that I regularly stumble in an area, accidentally agro ten people, and get shot to death like they're wielding fucking machineguns.
It felt more like a system that held you back from focusing on the main story
The levels were odd for me. I completely went off the rails around level 20 and went full completionist, and I was consistently overleveled tackling region after region. There were a few parts where I had to go full stealth mode to beat an area (that one bandit outpost in east Siwa comes to mind) but I rarely had to come back to a region later, with the exception of places like Alexadria.
I kind of wish there were more places like the bandit outpost in east Siwa, areas with no 'kill' targets that you could complete at low levels if you're just good at sneaking around.
The level gates on some quests don't even seem to make sense. For instance there is a quest for Phanos you can only realistically do at level 20 and it makes references to a character being alive when you killed that dude in a level 10 quest.
Not to mention some other oddities like [sp]The Lizard's[/sp] questline starting at a lower level than another one but after two stages of the quest it suddenly jumps up by like three levels and you kind of get stuck in the mud and have to go do something else.
Speaking of the blade, I really missed having the two hidden blades.
I really liked open combat with the hidden blade but I think it really shone in the original assassin's creed where you couldn't block with it but rather would dodge and avoid the attacks to kill with it.

first time playing an AC game since AC2, it's surprisingly good, the setting and level/world design is 10/10
sorry about the bitrate on the video, not sure what I did wrong in my editing software
I'm moving at what feels like a snail's pace through the story. The game's testing my patience with these ridiculous level requirements and the pants-on-head retarded scaling.
I want to experience the story, not run errands for random samefaced NPCs, but that's not possible in this game. Whoever designed this system has ruined the game for me.

A lot of the sidequests are actually quite good.
I don't really care how good the sidequests are, if the game flat out forces me to do them because of the leveling system then I'll just get bored and frustrated.
I don't want to do the sidequests specifically because the story thus far is designed to be one continuous series of events, but the entire XP component means this can't be enjoyed that way. You have to stop and grind for experience and levels, you have to stop and grind for gold and you have to stop for materials to keep your equipment up to par.
I just went off at level 10 or so to do my own things and got a few levels past the story and continued playing the game and never had a problem.
I mean you can be upset the game is designed this way, but I just went and did some good side quests, saw some sights and the leveling requirements stopped really bothering me.

Then the game is definitely not for you, it's pretty much build around the entire premise to explore the open-world and do sidequests. Also I would not exactly call it grinding, the story level requirements are very reasonable and I never really felt that I had to grind just to meet a minimum requirement. Furthermore you can actually do and complete missions that are above your current level.
I wish this game didn't hate AMD hardware so much. Adjusting my settings does nothing to change performance one way or the other.

I've actually beaten the main story after working around the level issues (read: I cheated) and I had a blast throughout the course of the story. I definitely enjoyed it more that way than if I had to constantly take pitstops to help random idiots.
Once I finished the story, I went and began to do all the side quests, taking my time with them with the actual ability to enjoy the content because I was doing them without constantly thinking about the next part of the main quest.
It even makes more sense storywise seeing as Bayek's supposed to be relentless to the point of barely ever sleeping in the Main Quest and it's only after he's done [sp]and founds the brotherhood[/sp] that he has time to get around and explore.
On the note of exploration is there a completion menu somewhere like the older games have ? I'd like to know my exact progress but I can't seem to find any such thing.

You can hit a button in the map screen (F3 for keyboard, I believe) and it'll only show uncompleted locations. You sorta have to be at just the right zoom level or the location objectives vanish.
Game definitely needs a synchronization screen so you can see the percentage for all the parts of the game.
Yeah I'm done with this game, freezing every 10 seconds is not doing it for me, nothing online helps me.
Game sure is pretty

are you running out of vram? for me the in-game vram meter reported usage values far lower than what the game was actually using
I gotta say the fact the sequel bait is hidden in an unmarked scavenger hunt is pretty fucking cool, and it really renewed my interest in the series in the long term since I'm now really excited to see what kind of shit they pull off with [sp]Layla essentially learning the basics of CHIM and finding out she has to break the layers of reality to save it from erasing altogether[/sp]
On medium and high settings I get an average of about 40fps. Not great, but not bad considering my hardware.
My CPU is bottlenecking my R9 380 and I have an FX8350. If an R9 380 is being CPU bottle necked in a game this heavy on visuals, something is amiss

I'll have a look, I have 8gb and I'm fairly certain I didn't go over the limit.

chariots are great for mountainous terrain
Okay well I did nothing and the stuttering stopped, all that was different was that I had my 2nd monitor unplugged for other reasons
Also only uses about 4gbs of my 8 on full.
Didn't the developers accurately predict a hidden passageway that was only rumored by archeologists but never actually proven to exist, but then discovered afterward?
The game has astounding attention to detail.
news article on the discovery mode:
As you'd expect, there's plenty of helpful narration, historical photos and artwork in Discovery Tour. You also don't have to worry about getting killed, so you're free to explore as much as you want. The developers brought in Egyptologists to craft 75 guided tours, which cover things like the city of Alexandria, daily life of Egyptians, the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx.

Owners of Origins will get the Discovery Tour for free on February 20th, but it's also going to be available as a $20 standalone title. The latter option should be useful for schools and libraries, since it won't include any of the violent parts of the full game.

In one study, they had half of a history class learn about ancient Egypt while playing the game, while the other half was taught a traditional lesson by their teacher. In the end, 55 percent of the students who went through the normal class passed a follow up quiz, while 42 percent passed it after playing Discovery Tour. Only 22 percent of the students passed a preliminary quiz, prior to those lessons.
Tour mode is out
I was wondering around Alexandria found a couple glowing circles,. Your character will lock into place and start doing an animation related to the place or object. Here I started tossing a ball around, there was a carpenters table near by and I started cutting wood.
Also when not on a tour the narrator will randomly say things.

Those points also let your character do what the children npc's do.
