I've read through the thread and what I read so far is pretty nice actually. Did they really change up the formula a bit? I bought Syndicate after Black Flag and I stopped playing because it became insanely boring after a while, incredibly repetive unlike Black Flag or AC2 + all of its sequels. Are there paranormal events now? Like that giant snake from the trailer or people talking about angry sand ghosts and stuff. That would be a nice change for once. How are the fighting animations? I always liked the executions during fighting. Can you use different weapons? The weapons in Syndicate were really crap in my opinion and the fighting got repetive really quick. Sorry for posting lots of questions but I used to play lots of Assassins Creed and Syndicate just didn't work out IMO.

You do quests now, like you would in Witcher 3. There's leveling and skills, which adds incentive to explore. There's no tedious shit to climb around and collect. In fact, there's less tedious climbing in general, which is a huge plus. Exploration is more interesting because the environment is more interesting, and I haven't yet stumbled upon an area that has nothing do it in it. There are paranormal events, yeah. I only encountered the angry sand ghost so far but I'm sure there's more. I don't know if it's actual paranormal or the main character's hallucinations, but I'm only an hour or two into the first hub after the tutorial city. The fighting animations aren't as detailed as the executions in previous Assassin's Creed games, but that's because of the different fight system. You don't do the silly counters to magically execute 5 people one after the other anymore. You have heavy attacks, light attacks, blocking, parrying, combos (sort of), and tools. In previous Asscreed games you could easily beat 20 people by just patiently countering them one after the other, but in this game more than five enemies at your level will overpower you rather easily (assuming that you're playing on Hard like I am). You have 5 or so different weapon types that all behave in distinct ways and have bonuses and minuses, as well as 3 or 4 different bow types that also all have their own distinct behavior. The fights are less "cinematic" but much more involved and enjoyable now.
Origins is a blast so far. The only problem I have is overleveling. I'm playing on the hardest difficulty (hard), and by doing side quests I'm almost constantly overleveled, so it gets to be too easy. Feels like the only alternative is that I need to skip some side quests, which sucks.
Finished AC2 as well now. Just rolled through the missions and didn't finish any side plots or glyphs. Really fucking hated the Vatican level for that horse section. Also fuck the game for making me install Uplay. Which do I try next?

Which do I try next?
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is basically a standalone expansion to Assassin's Creed II, but it is a very competent standalone expansion: you have now assassins recruits at your disposal, can explore a single huge city (Rome) and there's also a new multiplayer mode (which however I can only assume it's now empty). Assassin's Creed: Revelations is supposed to bring closure to Ezio's story arc, but it has a very distinct filler feeling to it and the little gameplay additions they developed are either out of place and boring (the dens defense mini-game) or downright break the game (bombs crafting). There's also a spin-off game for Nintendo DS and IoS devices, Assassin's Creed II: Discovery. Basically, it takes place in the events of Assassin's Creed II and is about Ezio going to Spain and facing off against the Spanish Inquisition. And that's it, really. It's a platformer that should be left alone, as far as I'm concerned. This as far as the Italian Renaissence games are concerned
So far my only huge issue with Origins is that I can't quite find a good contoller setup that makes it play similar to Hellblade or other hack n slashes without breaking something like being unable to climb out of the water or having the assassination button constantly change for some reason. Damn me for trying to have X do multiple things at once lmao.
2 hours in and I'm loving it so far. Game feels fresh and new. Not too sure if it's just the fact that we have not had an AC game for a while, or if they've severely improved on everything. The map is absolutely huge and exploration is quite fun. I accidentally killed [sp]The Ibis[/sp] while just casually exploring and now I feel as though [sp]I'm missing out on some juicy mission dialogue and backstory[/sp].
If only my i5-3570k @ 4.4 didn't bottleneck so much :(
I heard the DRM puts a lot of strain on the CPU which seems to be the case on my end. No matter what my settings are, 100% CPU usage everywhere. Running an I5 4690K at 4.5ghz too.
I was looking forward to buying Origins until I saw it was £50, what an absolute piss take even for a AAA game.
I was looking forward to buying Origins until I saw it was £50, what an absolute piss take even for a AAA game.
Isn't that around what it is for any AAA new game? I guess it's slightly more than $60.
AAA games are usually £40, £45 if it's pre-release like CoD:WW2 is right now, which is fine if you're pre-ordering I suppose but £50 for a released game is Ubisoft just pushing it
I can't even play anymore. I like the game. I think it's refreshing even if the same formula is there. But holy shit I'm bluescreening at Alexandria. Dropping to very high gave me 10-15 minutes before crash. AMD FX 8350 not coping well. Though apparently it's on Ubisoft's "known issues list".
Constant BSODs, probably relating to high CPU usage/temp. Unplayable. If they crack it within the next few days, I'll just install that and hope that reduces the CPU usage. Otherwise, it's a refund.
Hopefully if one does pop out, it removes the DRM rather than bypasses, because that's what's causing all the shitty CPU performance issues. The game makes calls to Ubisoft's VRMProtect non. fucking. stop. while you play. I really hope they patch that shit out because it's absurd at how bad the DRM is this time around. It's so bad that legit owners are going to want to use a crack just to make it playable. Even really, really good CPUs are struggling, and people on CPUs like the FX series haven't got a chance in hell
Well shit. Took Ubisoft's suggestion of cinematic 30 FPS and capped it. Whaddaya know the game looks like ass and no blue screens at all in two hours. It might not even be the VMProtect. The game might be the shittiest PC version in a few years. Granted my FX-8350 is pretty old.
So I've been wanting to try this but is this even safe to play? I am always skeptical when people try to shit on Denuvo because it's usually sensationalist nonsense from sketchy sources that just stoke Steam forum fires to uneducated rantings. But this time is a little different. I have a 7700k and those are known to run a little warm to begin with (mine idles at ~32-36c) but I'm actually kind of afraid of playing this if it's just going to jam my usage up to max for hours and cause some serious problems. Is it even a good idea to play? I have been wanting to try because I haven't played an AC since 4 and I love the Egyptian setting.

If it was destroying cpu's left and right they'd have a lawsuit on their hands
You'll be fine. If it was destroying cpu's left and right they'd have a lawsuit on their hands
I mean I suppose that's true. I'm just extra paranoid because I saved for a while to build this PC so I could give my old rig to my GF so she could actually have a nice PC to use and I could have this one for work and everyday use, so I certainly can't afford any shenanigans. Just makes me want to extend every feeler I can before diving into a game with this many reports if you get what I mean.
On the CPU sensationalism thing. I've been using an i7-3770K 3.50GHz and been having no problems regarding the CPU. Whereas the previous games using AnvilNext 2.0 put my old CPU over its limits (which was an i5-760 2.80 GHz).
I was looking forward to buying Origins until I saw it was £50, what an absolute piss take even for a AAA game.
£50 is highly worth it for this game, you get so much content. Not regretted it so far. [editline]2nd November 2017[/editline]
Well shit. Took Ubisoft's suggestion of cinematic 30 FPS and capped it. Not had any problems so far, but I wish it was optimised for any CPUs other than an i7 lol, it's a fantastic game.
Not sure if I should get this for PC or XB1. I have a i7 2600k and a 970
The patch fixed some bugs, but the performance dropped a few frames
£50 is highly worth it for this game, you get so much content. Not regretted it so far.
I caved and bought it a couple days ago and I've put 10 hours into it already. It's pretty damn good but my wallet still cried over the £50 price tag
I dunno if it was the patch that did this, but anyone with a similar build (1070, i7 6700k) getting really high usage across the board? FPS has been very stable both before and after the patch, but I only just noticed the usage. [t]https://i.imgur.com/zFhcIew.jpg[/t]
I know all of you Asscreed fans are crazy about them for some reason, but my god do the modern day parts suck butt. They weren't so bad in the first three, but now they're just "hey, stop doing cool shit so we can tell you about the *real* plot" Bitch. The real plot is me assassinating people in Egypt. Stop with this stupid framing device.

Now that he's gone I have even less of a reason to care for them.
Tbh, I'd like a game that focuses on the modern parts.
What even is the goal in the modern time now? The previous games (dunno if I should spoiler this, can edit if needed,) had the reason for living past lives to find the pieces of Eden but now that's over? There's like a resistence but no characters for it? I skipped over most of 4, which had odd FPS modern sections but then Unity didn't even have that, instead having just a single character introduce what was basically an excuse to go to different times for a little bit but that's it. The games retain the modern storyline but for no real reason.
Isn't most of the modern times told through comics or something?
