It's explained that he goes Postal after his sister dies. He begins hearing voices in his head, and is obsessed with guarding an unexplained paranormal force. He also seems obsessed with being a good Christian, to the point of the voices in his head asking him to nail himself to a cross. This is topped off by him coming home to find his mother dead (explains various quotes in Postal 1 saying "This one's for mother!" shouted by hostiles) Due to the unpaid bills, he is also being evicted. At this point he snaps, declares himself the "celestial gardener, killer of weeds" and heads out to go postal. Along the way, the voices in his head cause him to see the people he attacks as bovine monsters, "oblivious to the truth". It also kind of ties in with Postal 3, as one of the voices he hears is described as "similar to his own, yet deeper". Mind you, the book seems more of a retelling than a backstory, so I don't think it's canon. [editline]25th January 2016[/editline] TL;DR the book explains the whole backstory, but it's a retelling and as such probably isn't canon.
huh. good to know.

'Nother novel-related question: the Dude's real name. Unless it's still "The Postal Dude Jr.".
it is and always will be "the postal dude jr."
it is and always will be "the postal dude jr."
In the novel it's explained his mother was too busy taking a shit or something to name him, so he he somehow ended up being named Postal Dude. [editline]29th January 2016[/editline] The novel contradicts a fair few things in the games, but overall it's a good read and it's pretty fucking cool in the last chapter - "The youth went to his room. He took a small notebook from his desk. Postal Dude picked up a pen and wrote: "The earth is hungry. Its heart throbs and demands cleansing. The earth is also thirsty." He put the pen and notebook in his pocket. "See," he said sternly to himself, "this house may be clean, but they aren't. They are the infected. The filthy. I will go as this human being, so they may take me for one of their own, and I will clean, and clean, and clean..." " I liked the purposely ambiguous story of Postal 1, but this really goes a lot further into the mind of the Postal Dude. It's interesting.

He then proceeded to knock out her teeth, and thrust his erect bloody penis into her mouth.")
Which makes it seem like "Moms Gonna FREAK" level edgy.
Yeah but then you have shit like Which makes it seem like "Moms Gonna FREAK" level edgy.
That's only one instance in the book, and it's the only thing that seems out of place. The rest is a good read, and the violence isn't overused. (Barely used much until the last chapter) "He only threw the foreman under a combine, beat the roofer to death, stabbed two glaziers and sawed the electrician in half"
the novel isn't canon ok
the novel isn't canon ok
I know that already
I know that already
Wait, how do you know that? Who told you? Has there been a leak? I swear, if there's been a leak, heads will roll!
Wait, how do you know that? Who told you? Has there been a leak? I swear, if there's been a leak, heads will roll!
Easy. The Postal Dude doesn't have a dick. It's only a black circle saying "CENSORED" that shoots banana juice.
Banana juice tastes yum.
Easy. The Postal Dude doesn't have a dick. It's only a black circle saying "CENSORED" that shoots banana juice.
If my dick shot out banana juice I would bottle that shit and sell it. The Postal Dude is missing out on a grand business opportunity.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/catharsis-reborn Working on a mod. send help
This sounds interesting, and I hope the mod gets finished. This is the second time someone has tried to remake Postal 3 (the first being Postal 3 Unreal which is coming out soon.)

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
I would help out but the only Source Engine shit I know how to do is create cutscenes and convert them to bink video files. [editline]1st February 2016[/editline] Mind you, if you could expand on your ideas I will do my best to give feedback.

Some original ideas include Uncle Dave being homeless after the ATF skirmish, a Gary Coleman museum, and Russian mobsters. Hey, if you want, you could help us out with converting the cutscenes.

I would also suggest making the character of the Postal Dude a lot less self centred than in Postal 3. The whole story of Postal 3 seemed flawed in that no matter what you did, your actions had no consequences and that the whole town was just letting Postal Dude do what he wanted. A character like the Postal Dude needs more to start off as "hey, new town, new start, get a job." He's just a guy trying to live a dream whilst trapped in a nightmare. He just wants to go about his life, but everything and everyone gets in his way, something that Postal 3 never really played out well. [editline]1st February 2016[/editline] Homeless Uncle Dave actually sounds really good as well.
What kind of spot?
Writing and Idea Management, you seem like a dedicated POSTAL fan. He and I sent you a friend request on Steam.

I'm up for that, certainly sounds very interesting. [editline]1st February 2016[/editline] Sorted Steam invite stuff, I'm looking forward to getting involved in this mod, especially since the story of POSTAL has interested me for years on end.
Oddheads the ideas guy
I've never honestly seen a mod team recruit a professional ideas guy before Props. :goodjob:
'Nother thing we're hoping for is RWS' official approval, since we're good samaritans after all. We're using assets from P2 and PIII, so we have a specific artstyle in mind that's a mix of both of them.
Anyone here a good concept artist? We're looking for people who can design some landscapes and characters.
