Is this a merger with In Country Vietnam? I know the original mod team was trying to rebuild the game on UE4. I hope this isn't another expansion for RO2, but I'd still play it if that were the case.
So what is gonna happen to that Vietnam mod? I'm guessing they picked up some of the devs over there.
I wonder what engine it's going to be on. In Country (the vietnam mod) switched to Unreal 4.
I wonder how the gameplay will be like in RS2, one of the reasons why I'm confident in running over open ground sometimes is because everyone has bolt actions or rather being able to banzai which lets me survive garands more likely. But now everyone has automatics, the suppression gonna be like everywhere.
I was rewatching the trailer, and what the hell are those Vietnamese uniforms? They're literally the horribly inaccurate stereotypical black shirt/rice hat farmers you see in every Vietnam game. And they look really low-quality. Also, IC devs just confirmed they are NOT affiliated with this in any way. I think I'll buy RS2 anyway just for kicks, but given Tripwire's reputation and less-than-solid first impression with the trailer I think I'll stick with In Country.
I dunno why you'd judge gameplay from a giant matinee sequence.
Glad to see Vietnam is becoming popular again! Maybe someone up there is trying to tell me something... Lots of stiff animations, messy camera angles I presume those are the Vietcong, and not the NVA. And THANK FUCKING CHRIST the viet at 1:08 is holding an RPG-2 and not an RPG-7
Wonder if the scrapped spawn bunker feature from Rising Storm will be implemented in this for spider holes and tunnels. It would be an interesting way to balance against the helos that the Americans get.
Hoping RS2 will depict ARVN and some of the big conventional actions of the 1972-75 period
I hope someone will. I'm sick of playing as US. The only game I've ever seen the ARVN in is Battlefield Vietnam, from 2005. :v:
tbh it's probably about as likely as seeing the Romanians or Hungarians in ro2, tripwire is scared (or just too lazy) to commit to new or different things. But who knows, they might surprise me.
all that matters is that rs2 is the next-gen ptsd sim i've been waiting for.
all that matters is that rs2 is the next-gen ptsd sim i've been waiting for.
I can just imagine the hours of voice acting work going into the screaming, it will be the equivalent of watching Apocalypse now, Platoon and Hamburger Hill in one round.
Honestly I doubt it. Considering how much of shitty job they did with Japanese voices I can't image the Vietnamese will be any better.
What was wrong with the Japanese voices?
What was wrong with the Japanese voices?
There's only like, two of them.
There's only like, two of them.
well, all of the ingame factions have only two sets
There's only like, two of them.
There are three Japanese voices, the same number of variations present for every team, but certain cues (such as the burning fire death screams, banzai charges, etc) only have one voice. This is not because the game is pointing to the wrong sound files. The lines for the other voices simply aren't there. As Tripwire scrapped the entirety of the original American voice acting to record all new lines, it seems the lack of voice variety for some Japanese lines was intentionally done due to the poor quality from some of the original Japanese voice actors. The original voice acting was recorded by the mod team. Tripwire only recorded the new American voices.
well, all of the ingame factions have only two sets
All teams have three voice variations. However, only two are used per game.
No, all three variations can be present at once. For humans it's randomized, but bots only use the first one no matter what. And the Japanese voices are crap! The voice actors were awful. One if them sounds more or less ok, the other sounds like a girly teenager, and the third just sounds constipated. Not to mention that missing files issue. The first one has all of them, the other two are missing more than half of their lines! Seriously, what were they thinking? Did they run out of money or did they just get lazy? Why couldn't they hire better and more thorough voice actors like they did with the US?
It's a shame that there are only like 2 to 3 servers viable for me, the rest of them have insane latency. One of them is 24/7 Bridges and the other ones change. I seldom actually get to play Rising Storm maps.
Do you have native voices on? I have them on and they sounds fine to me.
Rising Storm only has native language available.
Oh, trust me, the RO2 voices are WORLDS better than the RS ones. The native voices are all excellent. The localized voices are kinda goofy, but they work. US voices are alright, but man, the Japanese... blegh. Also, fun fact: there's hidden Polish voice lines for Russians and Germans. In the same place there's also a package labeled Chinese voice files, but it only has a random music track for some reason.
At first I thought the AVT was utter garbage because the insane recoil makes it unusable over long distances, but then I learned about the alt-fire. It is now my favorite weapon. Regular SVT one moment, then boom! Full-auto SMG the next. Perfect for panic situations.

Also, for the record I'm still working on Operation Downfall.
