You need to set language properly. English speaking Russians/Germans ruins immersion, man.
For what it's worth, the English voice work on the Russians and Germans is serviceable and fine. Still worse than putting on the proper language. The Japs on the other hand...
So decided to try out HOTW now that it has been out awhile and can see it is still terribly unbalanced.
It's about as balanced and stable as Somalia. Not a fan of HoTW
I love it conceptually, but I have zero clue how the devs could have tested half the shit they did (especially PortBrest) and say "yeah, this is totally fine and balanced." What was even the point of having beta tests if no adjustments would be made?

Port Brest is still the dumbest map ever even if you can cap the first point behind the first row of rocks before you get in the river. Main issue I'm finding is where the spawns are situated. Half the time you take the next set of points on a map and your spawn zones move up barely an inch.
Omaha beach is alright now, Osterbeek is good too, we almost won as the Germans there earlier. Though there are still issues Main issue is still the lack of tickets for the attackers on a lot of maps especially since they have a lot of cap zones. Also on Omaha Beach you can just recapture E or F as the germans which shouldn't be allowed. Worst map is Saint Come du Mont. Literally haven't seen the allies advance beyond the first objective on that map yet. Also when i played on Carentan it was pretty bad too. Maybe once they add halftracks or other working vehicles it will be better.
Player made maps are always the fucking worst when it comes to balance doesn't help that they're the ones that last an hour long because they decided to make the map gargantuan
Player made maps are always the fucking worst when it comes to balance
I usually quit campaign games that end up on Bridges of Druzhina, that map is piss.
I usually quit campaign games that end up on Bridges of Druzhina, that map is piss.
Druzhina is pretty good once you get past the first part though
The mid-section of Druzhina when you're fighting in the streets it pretty cool but only in a thematic sense. The rest of the map is trash tbh
Player made maps are always the fucking worst when it comes to balance doesn't help that they're the ones that last an hour long because they decided to make the map gargantuan
Darkest Hour would like a word.
Darkest Hour would like a word.
I remember any gargantuan Darkest Hour maps also having copious armour support.
I remember any gargantuan Darkest Hour maps also having copious armour support.
Generally, the spawns and the capture points were just well set out even if the maps were as close to real as possible. A lot of key issues with Port Brest and Omaha in HOTW can be addressed purely by changing those two factors.
[t]http://media.tripwirecdn.com/040116/baikal.png[/t]
So apparently the double barrel is actually a VC weapon. [vid]http://media.tripwirecdn.com/041116/baikal2.webm[/vid]
So apparently the double barrel is actually a VC weapon.
Shotguns are so niche use though.
Did the Vietcong even use a long double barrel shotgun...? Not like it was impossible, but seems kinda improbable.
The Baikal is a russian made hunting shotgun, so it kinda makes sense that of all the people it was the VC of all people that got a hold of them (as unlike the NVA they -really- had to make-do with whatever weapons they could get)
Searched a few links on Google for "Baikal IZH-43 Vietnam" and there seems to be some prevalence in media... but no real good sources for it. Well, might as well take their word for it.
I played a Vietnam game from like 2003 that gave the Vietcong a long double barrel. I'm not going to question it because its awesome.
I played a Vietnam game from like 2003 that gave the Vietcong a long double barrel. The immersion comes from the gameplay at most points anyways
I played a Vietnam game from like 2003 that gave the Vietcong a long double barrel. I'm not going to question it because its awesome.
it probably is Vietcong
So apparently the double barrel is actually a VC weapon. [vid]http://media.tripwirecdn.com/041116/baikal2.webm[/vid]
Pretty obvious it was going to be. Americans had trench shotguns already they wouldn't back down to double barrel. Pretty fucking glad shotguns are in just hope they aren't sniper rifles like in RS. Once you figure just how far the shots can land it becomes stupidly OP.
I also hope theirs more availability in terms of modifications to weapons in Rising Storm 2. Such as shortening the Baikal (largely a cosmetic choice, but maybe increased spread at close range), etc. [t]http://i1095.photobucket.com/albums/i479/StevenFBuis/XMcomplete.jpg[/t] XM-177 or bust
There was surprising shotgun variety in Vietnam, even though they weren't widely fielded Among others I know that the americans carried the 870 and the Ithaca 37
Wonder if they'll let us slamfire the Ithaca 37 by holding down the fire key and mashing reload.
Early in the war the Americans still used the old Winchester 1897.
Wikipedia is telling me it was still used as recently as Desert Storm.
I hope we get the BAR, even if I can already use it in RS.
"Many times since my three tours of duty in Vietnam I have thanked God for ... having a BAR that actually worked, as opposed to the jamming M16 ... We had a lot of Viet Cong infiltrators in all our [Special Forces] camps, who would steal weapons every chance they got. Needless to say, the most popular weapon to steal was the venerable old BAR."

I hope we get the BAR, even if I can already use it in RS.
Shows you how great the BAR was and is somewhat. Awful heavy though.
