I dont know how people can fucking handle playing commander ever
like, every time you call in an airstrike you get ten goddamn teamkills because nobody listens when you tell them to move, and thats if you're lucky enough for SLs to be willing to mark shit for you
I absolutely LOVE playing Commander. Yeah it sucks when you get people not listening to your warnings when calling down arty but you are by far the most important asset for your team. Also, if you act friendly with SLs and basically tell them that if they want something gone, arty is just one marker away it usually gives them good incentive to cooperate.
Something I always felt like they could have done was improve on the systems in place in order to encourage SLs to engage in a more leading role, like spot out targets and direct fire, making the game feel a bit more like you're fighting in a squad rather than with 31 other seemingly mindless players but maybe they just never thought about it or they're too afraid of making the game too complex.

The squad tunnel is actually a great step in that direction imo cause honestly having a squad leader you can spawn on is great when he's alive but having a fixed place just gives you a more natural area of the map to focus on and so you happen to fin yourself with squad members nearby more often.
you can spot enemies ( Z ) , but so can everyone else
EDIT : So I assume that wouldn't really work towards your vision
Double honor has ended and they fixed the Spooky audio aswell

That double xp was so nice. Its gonna be a lot harder to unlock all the cool duds now.
I want that flak jacket.
M79 is for little weenies
just like me. love blooping right onto a point
i've noticed that playing as the black united states soldier guy with no shirt or accessories makes you noticably harder to see for some people :v:
Its true. Theres a very tan viet skin that works aswell
Anyone else think this games playerbase is toxically racist? Like, they throw the word "gook" around extremely liberally. It's pretty bad.

It's just banter and RP
It's just banter and RP
That's not really an excuse. I'm not saying these people are klansmen, but saying shit like "GOODBYE GOOKS" is pretty racist.
Also, people have started calling the tunnels "gook tunnels" to refer to the actual mechanics of the game.
casual racism is a hallmark of the RO series
Anyone else think this games playerbase is toxically racist? Like, they throw the word "gook" around extremely liberally. It's pretty bad.
I remember the same exact thing happening in RS 1. I doubt most of them are being serious.
In fact I just had a guy on my team who kept spamming "GO HOME ROUND EYE"

I feel like the playerbase is toxic in few more ways than just being racist and I even had a squadmate going "ching chong" over the mic almost the whole game last night.
However, the votekick abuse is an issue that bothers me a lot more than people being racist in the game. We had a pretty good commander who kept communicating with us, giving us pretty accurate fire support and everything and there were like three or four times when people attempted to votekick him for various reasons, mostly Trolling / Griefing or for being AFK. Same thing happened to my friend who was playing a transport pilot and he was fairly decent as well, but people were still trying to votekick him for the same reasons as the aforementioned commander.
I don't think people even care who they're votekicking as long as it makes the votekick go away (I think this has been mentioned in the thread already though, iirc)

I was actually about to just post that, either we were in the same server or he gets around. :P
This game is phenomenal with surround sound.

This! I understand that it shouldn't be ok, but most everybody knows that it's just in jest.
In Darkest Hour (RO Ostfront mod) the 29th ID community runs the only popular server, and they have a very strict no swearing no racism rule. I personally find it astounding that when some guy goes "who's this asshole in the panther" on voice then the first response is a 29th ID fellow saying "watch your language".

I'm still sore that Vietnam doesn't have public voice-chat..
i've been on teams where the same commander that calls the enemies "zips and zipperheads" has called the americans "white pigs" and "round eye dogs" when the teams switched
I'm still sore that Vietnam doesn't have public voice-chat..
I'm pretty sure it does. I remember being on the US team, seeing someone's name come up on screen in red letters and hearing them scream "GO HOME GI" in a horrible Vietnamese accent.

I actually checked and indeed it does! Makes playing commander a little more tolerable when you don't have any radiomen...
"BOYS WE GOT US A GOOK BARBEQUE ON DELTA, GET SOME WHILE IT'S HOT!"

*Napalm explodes*
The best casual racism is incorrect casual racism
I had a commander say "get ready for some korean bbq" before he launched napalm
Never forget the great "Jap" banning that took place in this thread (or the last one I forget)
Anyone else think this games playerbase is toxically racist? Like, they throw the word "gook" around extremely liberally. It's pretty bad.
It's absolutely no different from playing PR or Squad where people yell allahu akbar every damn time they fire an RPG or throw a grenade if they're playing any middle eastern team, or going "You see, Tovarish..." in RO2. It's just the way people behave in serious tactical shooters.
The only time I have experienced actual racism in the Red Orchestra series was when I accidentally joined a server run by actual neo-nazis, who were busy botstomping the Soviets on easy. So I took the Soviet team, and started trench-clearing with a PPSh, racking up tons of kills on dickwads masturbating over the recent addition of the MG42 :v:

I got perma'd for that fiasco :v:
Good times
Maybe I'm just a racist asshole but I find it funny when ppl do a bit of RPing of the sort.
No wonder why ppl got mad when I used the term "gook" on the steam review that I had written for the game :v:

Hearing "Kill the White Devil" on my first day playing was the most magical thing ever. We were really fighting for something dammit.
Does any of the early beta testers know what the point is of getting assigned to a squad when you are a transport pilot? Can you change which squad you are attached to? It seems like I can spawn on any of the helis, regardless of which squad they are attached to.
