Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad V5 - Rising Storm

I'd like a mod that puts the Yankees against the commies myself.
Add the Africa campaign with I wanna play as the Afrika korps and the Australians / British / Canadian forces.
Still balancing desert fighting would be kind of hard
You could just have a big open desert map à la Gumrak.
Also, they could edit the Japanese LMGs for a Bren gun, because, you know, they're basically Japanese versions of the same gun.
Speaking of Bren guns and Type 99s, who the fuck thought the magazine blocking a significant proportion of your view was a good idea on a fucking machine-gun?
I assume it would be less of an issue in real life but I find it nearly impossible to use in Rising Storm.
and who though a 20 round mag was a good idea for an lmg. I'm doing more reloading than shooting ffs.

Welcome to the wacky world of Imperial Japan's firearms. Insane shit like strip-fed magazines may be fine when you're slaughtering innocent Chinese civilians, but when you're fighting someone that can actually fight back, it blows.

It seems weird from a modern standpoint and I dunno about the Type 96/99 but on the Bren guns it meant a much faster reload without having to move the gun in any way, and could be loaded either by the gunner or his assistant, the boxes were less prone to environmental fouling, and since the casings were ejected from the bottom, there was less potential for glinting casings to compromise the gunner's position
But mostly the reason why top-loaders were considered a good idea at the time was because the Madsen did it and was basically the first actual LMG that wasn't an unholy piece of shit

You should only be having that problem on the BAR, I'm almost certain the Types used thirty-rounders like the Bren
Unless the BAR is what you're talking about, which kinda had no excuse beyond the US was too lazy to modernize the BAR between wars
I have no problem with the BAR actually since I always use the altfire for it. Jap LMGs just seem to have a really small magazine size for their rate of fire.

Strangely enough the magazine is fine, it's the circle around the crosshairs that blocks the view for me.
It gets rather difficult to aim quickly and precisely at more than 20 meters.

At first I hated the M1 Garand so much I ended up max levelling the Springfield.

Just rank up and get the scope + bayonet, spraying and praying then charging.
Currently in the process. I got the bayonet, but it seems underpowered. It takes two-three hits to the chest as opposed to a single rifle bayonet hit to the chest.
Yet another reason why the melee in this game is a giant sack of garbage.
Also, apparently if you man an HMG or deploy your LMG, you can press Crouch and your guy will duck down without getting off or undeploying.
That's incredibly useful. Why it took me this long to figure out, I have no idea.

Yeah it's really useful. I use it almost all the time. Now if only you could do that on the MG of the german halftrack...
I gave this game a serious try after dicking around with it with friends sometime ago. I left with PTSD.

Stripper-clip fed heavy machineguns

Speaking of this, here's a informative video

I would dare to say is for balance reasons, plus you can always unload some bullets right in front of the poor fool at very close range.
Also you can do a short bonzai to kill waittu piggus who think they got you, still the melee is crappy as all shit .
Why is the RO2 OST so incomplete?
I extracted all the music files, only 25 out of 45 are included in the OST.
Dang shame, some of them are quite good. Russian Low on Station is probably my favorite.

I know I've said this before but I HATE the melee in this game!
I stabbed a guy in the chest, he shoots me dead. Okay, whatever. I run into the same guy no more than twenty seconds afterwards and stab him in the throat, he shoots me dead. Seriously?
Another scenario: I ran into a different guy, smacked him in the head with my lvl 50 MP40. No reaction. He hits me with a lvl 0 Nagant and I have a heart attack and fall over.
Frankly it would be better if all melee was instakill no matter what. At least then it would be fucking consistent.
On the bright side, I was playing some good ol' Druzhina, lockdown on the final point.
I go commander, pop smoke, use the Follow Me command, and all 20 bots simultaneously bumrush the point and cap it with the timer at 0:01. Boy were the humans on the other team mad. :v:
the amount of abuse for instakill melee would be astronomical :v:
imo it works fine, you just got to get used to how retarded it is
I thought melee worked fine, I always get kills when I banzai charge

Use more bayonet
As first rule I alwyus have at least on bullet if I fail a melee attack.
Plus you can always say fuck it and go full panzer police with a machinegun to clean a room. The more I do this the more I love it
I've always loved the melee in RO2. Nothing feels better than missing all of your P38 shots against a Russian, then sprinting across the room to successfully punch him in the face.
If they add in the japanese tanks i wonder if the flamethrower can kill the thing even if it's buttoned up. If that doesnt work then they better add in a bazooka. Japan gets AT mines on poles instead
Use more bayonet
I did though, the whole story I described I was using a lvl 50 SVT40 bayonet. Fucking terrible.

You laugh, but they're were actually planning to do that. There's already a bazooka in-game and one of my acquaintances is working on making it actually useable. Plus there's an unused icon and code references for the Lunge Mine.
And I've tried the flamethrower on the tank, it just makes the game crash. I don't think they added all the code for it yet.
