Resident Evil Megathread: COMPLETE GLOBAL SATURATION!

Apparently HDR mode will only enable itself if you have a compatible monitor or something, otherwise it's greyed out. But something strange happened the other day, it turned on for me when I launched it up for a speedrun and it looked much, much better than the default brightness settings. But then after a Windows update it's back to being off again and it apparently will only turn on upon launch, you can't enable it once you get into the game menu, what is up with that?
Has there ever been a Resident Evil game without a crank?
Having completed RE7 myself, I honestly have to say that I really like early to mid game. The main and old house areas feel interconnected and really well designed. [sp]But once Lucas' place comes in, the game settles for extreme linearity and one-course paths for a while, and while the Happy Birthday puzzle's neat, it's only clever due to the tape factor. And once you've done the tape, figuring out the solution is pathetically easy for what's supposed to be the game's biggest actual puzzle. The ship portion wasn't very fun either due to how samey it all looks and how little variety there actually is amidst it all, and the mines just say 'fuck it' and don't even bother with exploration besides finding supplies around barrels and rocks. There's literally ammunition almost everywhere. The conclusion doesn't have much impact either since the final boss is more of a cinematic than a real conflict.[/sp]
The game set the bar real high at the start for me and then once [sp]Marguerite goes to the Greenhouse I realized that the main house had the most polish and refinement, because everything after that rapidly dwindles into this feeling that the game really rushed itself past the fight with Marguerite. The keycard retrieval was pretty much the developers padding out a little more exploration in revisiting older areas just to be able to progress, with some Molded tossed in so you aren't bored by the absence of Bakers.[/sp]
That's not to say it was bad by any means, even Resident Evil 1 had backtracking / pacing problems here and there and just sort of expects you to really up the ante in firepower by the end, but something about Resident Evil 7's last third just doesn't sit well with me.
just beat it now and i got a few thoughts
in regards to the pacing [sp]yeah it was really weird after the greenhouse, however i left the ship level thinking it was fantastic. the machine gun is a joke of a weapon so i ended up juking enemies and locking them in rooms which i hadn't done in the main house. the mine was nice too, it was just funnel enemies at you and use the rest of your ammo. the only part i didnt like was the lucas part because it just felt cheap. a lot of the time traps were set up so when you open a door and take one step you take damage. i have no idea why you think the solution for the birthday puzzle is pathetic, i thought it was fantastic. you do the tape and learn how to do it and then run into the puzzle again except you can avoid the death trap because you know the password to the lock.[/sp]
also i missed so many items and i dont know how i swear i scoured the whole map for everything. i ended up with all the bullets for the magnum but left it in storage and only ended up firing it once the entire game [sp]to shoot marguerite when she pops through the window at the stairs[/sp] because the last fight snuck up on me

oh yeah i wanted to ask in regards to the end [sp]i got ending 2, is the ending dependent on who you give the cure too? also that was like one of the only story choices in a game that i had to think about real hard before i chose.[/sp]

Yeah, the ending varies depending on [sp]who gets the Serum. Unfortunately if you knew the results of both endings you'd realize that unless you want dramatic effect it's basically a pointless decision:[/sp]
[sp]Giving the Serum to Mia has Zoe's fate ambiguous (though it's implied she died off-screen due to showing up in the hive mind with Jack), but Mia survives after she saves Ethan and is on the chopper already for unexplained reasons with a seeming lack of memory for the events that unfolded. Giving the Serum to Zoe has her die shortly thereafter, and Mia gets controlled by Eveline after saving Ethan, forcing you to kill her, changing the ending's tone entirely. So no matter what you do Zoe is screwed, you're really just deciding to save Mia or having to kill her one last time.[/sp]
How rare is ammo on madhouse difficulty? Should I save all my ammo for the boss fights or nah
They really weren't treated as important. One started out a 3DS exclusive and the other is episodic. If they both came out as full main-console/PC games I imagine I'd care a lot more. I've only launched Rev1 once and that was because I was bored at school but then it ran poorly on my laptop so I uninstalled it, and I haven't even purchased Rev2 past the first episode, which came in a Humble Bundle with other games.

I'll play them eventually but my mind just doesn't register them as high priority.
To be fair (REV 2 Spoilers) [sp]I would class Wesker's daughter appearing as the big baddie[/sp] as a big major story plot, but everything else surrounding that game, like cough-Moira-not-Ellie-cough and the fact that it's presented like a low-grade NBC TV Show is just so unimportant/unnecessary..
Also I don't know how you could excuse this, ever.

Anyways, about to start Madhouse run after clearing the under 4 hours trophy. Good tips? I know it's a lot harder/tape cassettes to save but I want to know if there's good solid advice for starting out.
so close to under 2 hours. bullshit

[sp]Wesker's daughter? You know all of the Weskers aren't related, right? The Weskers were experiments by Spencer brought about by kidnapping hundreds of children and brainwashing them with personalities that would best suit Spencer himself and then giving them the "Wesker" surname. So far we know of 13 Weskers and all of them are dead.[/sp]
[sp]Albert Wesker(deceased)
Alex Wesker(deceased)
Derek Wesker(deceased)
Felicia Wesker(deceased)
Hans Wesker(deceased)
Hiro Wesker(deceased)
Irma Wesker(deceased)
Jonah Wesker(deceased)
Ken Wesker(deceased)
Laura Wesker(deceased)
Marco Wesker(deceased)
Miles Wesker(deceased)
William Wesker(deceased)[/sp]
[sp]The only 2 that actually survived the Progenitor virus infection were Albert and Alex[/sp]
Albert Wesker is [sp]not dead though according to the canon shitty Umbrella Corps game.[/sp]

I can just imagine the Mercenaries 3D model being how he looks modern day if it is canon, lol.
Could just be a throwback easter egg y'know.

Not really an easter egg if it shows up at the end of the last campaign mission.

Is that game canon? Fuck.

I wonder how they'll explain it if he does make an appearance again
and can you show me where he appears? video or something

He doesn't appear, he just speaks randomly at the end of a match from what I've seen.
Ignore the Wesker player model, it doesn't affect anything.

Speedran it new game using a route I thought would work. I didn't record it because it was supposed to be a test run, but I think I can replicate and improve upon it.
About to start six, it's the only one in the mainline series I haven't played, I know it's bad but still, First impressions: Man these textures are fucking baaaaaaaad.
RE7 question: I'm in the [sp]processing area[/sp], running out of inventory space fast, which items should I stash in those green crates? And are they shared or each one is independent?

Shared. Put everything in them all the time
So the new DLC will be hitting Playstation tomorrow I think. The rest of us will have to wait for a month. Also does anyone think it's a bit too early to be releasing DLC?
[sp]good thing the black goo men die from a couple of *headshots, bad thing is that due to their shambling movement and mouse acceleration hitting their heads is fucking impossible [/sp]

It depends. The game doesn't seem to be obviously rushed, but I also don't like knowing that they were obviously working on DLC before the game released.

I only usually miss if I panic or they're sprinting too close to me, it's not that bad.
[sp]good thing the black goo men die from a couple of headsets, bad thing is that due to their shambling movement and mouse acceleration hitting their heads is fucking impossible [/sp]
Can you not turn off mouse acceleration? On the PS4 version they've got an acceleration slider.
Loving Resident Evil 7 so far, it's the perfect racist hick family simulator.
They're racist?

There's mouse accel? I never noticed it at all when playing, pretty sure you can turn it off.
Just checked, there's no mouse acceleration at all, are you sure it's not just your end?
Well maybe not acceleration, but a noticeable delay
The game doesn't use mouse acceleration. If you feel like it does, it's probably just vsync being vsync.
It's off, forgot to mention
