Ethan Must Die makes Madhouse look like a fucking joke
what is it like
[editline]31st January 2017[/editline]
can you use any of your main game unlocks?
Seems like a mode where you die in one hit, start with the knife, items are randomized each time and you have to kill a boss.
[editline]30th January 2017[/editline]
When you die you can go back to where you died to get your loot back.
sounds like Zombi U
Ya it honestly doesn't look that great. There's a ton of boxes around the area of the house you can explore, but they can contain bombs so you can just die from any random box.
Ethan Must Die just sounds frustrating and not fun at all.
Finished the game.
Kind of gave me back hope I lost a long time ago about what large companies can do when they are truly passionate about something.
I genuinely hope it sets a healthy precedent for future titles of the sort, telling publishers that it's possible to make something that's out of whack with current game standards and still sell.
The return to the old school survival horror and attempt at combining east and west titles makes me think of ways they could make Resident Evil and Biohazard both be names for the franchise in both regions equally.
Like have Resident Evil be the half of the series focusing on slow, intimate, claustrophobic survival horror, and Biohazard the half with the action.
I wonder if [sp]the virus in 7 is transferable via blood as well, in the beginning of the game jack stabs you in the mouth with the same knife that he used to Cut off Lucas' hand [/sp]

It's pretty clear that [sp]Ethan is infected near the end of the game when he starts hallucinating, since one of the files you find states that it's the first symptom of infection.[/sp]
Is it normal for your foot to fall off in [sp]the fight with Angry Chainsaw Scissors Dad[/sp]?
I had to pick it up and crawl to the corner with the health to put it back on.
So i just choose to [sp]give the serum to mia[/sp] i think i fucked up... im most certain its gonna come back and bite me in the ass :v:

[sp]that's actually the correct option[/sp]

This can happen several times over the course of the game actually.
[sp]Dad can do it a few times and typically gives you a health item to explain to you how it works, but even the zombies with the huge right arm can snap your leg off if you're not careful.[/sp]
It's incredibly punishing too since [sp]those guys don't give you a health item for free so you can put it back on, you have to carry one at this very moment.[/sp] It is easy to avoid though.
Just finished it. My final rating: [sp]7/10[/sp]
Couldn't give it more. I enjoyed it but not as much as I hoped I would.
Knife was useless. Not only that, but melee combat is a no-fun zone. There is like zero reason for it. Animation is slow, it's no fun doing 30 slices to get one enemy down. Evading enemies is the way to go but sometimes there is no room in a small corridor to evade. So there is pretty much no reason for melee combat to be so useless. And it has been useless for many RE games. There are also again these strange hit damage calculators. Like in previous RE games sometimes an enemy takes a few shots to the head and dies and the next one suddenly needs twice as much. This was also really annoying in RE6. I didn't enjoy the majority of bossfights as well. I wanted most of them to be just over for the 2/3's of the game. Bullet-spongy, it takes shitloads of time and it was rather unenjoyable due to the limited and slow movement. Later bossfights were too easy for my taste. I was NOT a fan of [sp]the child. Generally, I don't find them scary at all, just annoying. I was kinda surprised about the reveal, so I'll give it that. Still, an annoying child is simply annoying and not scary at all. [/sp]
Overall I didn't find the game to be that scary, like other people make it out to be. I've experienced much worse in games like Amnesia, Outlast or Alien Isolation. Some scenes are horrific, yeah but not really scary. Shocking would be more appropriate. A few jumpscares here and there but that's it. If Capcom goes more into the horror direction for the future games, then they definitely need to step up their game (pun unintended) in terms of horror creation. Most of what I saw and experienced felt old and overused and had already been done in other games (not talking about the shocking scenes).
To say some of the good things: Some of the puzzles were neat. The element with the tape was also pretty good and creative. I fell in love with the shotgun. They nailed a good portion of the atmosphere, even if the sound design feels repetitive after a while. The first 1/3 was the most enjoyable for me, especially with [sp]the second house.[/sp]
BUT it's definitely an improvement over the last few RE games. The direction they are going is good so I guess it feels right for investing money in it as long as they keep the future of RE like this. Much better than the shit they pulled with 5 and 6. Still, they got some way to go.
The knife is fucking godlike, what the hell are you on about ? You can go full kenshiro with it and slap monsters around like the black mold bitches they are until their heads explode.
Sounds like someone needs to git gud and learn some essential footwork
Maybe I didn't use it correctly. There are only two attacks right? Well, they both took me a few 10s hits to get an enemy down.
I did footwork as well. I could evade well. It just wasn't fun endlessly slicing an enemy.
The knife has always been a joke weapon in the Resident Evil series. Typically, that's the first thing you toss in the item box. Later on, they realized this, and added boxes for you to break so that way you use it more. Near the end of this one though, I ended up just shooting boxes because by then I was loaded on ammo.

I started shooting them when [sp] they started blowing up. [/sp]
I finished it as well, I'd give it the same, 7/10.
The weapon sounds were a bit lacking, and I'm using decent headphones. The textures would be awful at times - I had to keep it at Medium on a GTX 970 because if I put it any higher, the game would stutter madly even though I was getting 60fps. Although, I'm not entirely sure since at times the textures would look gorgeous;

The boss fights were a bit tedious to do, [sp]Stretch-Arm Marguerite[/sp] was the one I enjoyed the most. I wasn't really surprised that the [sp]kid was just a hallucination and the Old Lady was actually Eve.[/sp]
The enemies were a bit boring, too. The things that crawled along the walls and would jump at you were REALLY awesome. I have a feeling most of the molded are slow because of consoles. After getting the M21(I think) Shotgun, they became a piece of cake.
The Story was actually interesting, personally. I adored the level design, and back-tracking you had to do at times although most of it was pretty obvious. There were a few hidden parts like to toy wooden axe, repair kit under the house behind the metal sheet, and some others. I couldn't find any easter eggs.
I hope they don't go full action like they did in the later part of the game for their DLC. I quite like the mixture of what they had going in the first part. Except maybe in the DLC you deal with people who are infected, but don't regenerate as they've not reached that stage yet?
Weapons most used -
M21 Shotgun
M91 Pistol
Grenade Launcher
I got the Magnum too late, but once you reach the part where you're in the mining camp, after doing a bunch of damage to the big tall boomer, I mean, molded, I basically aimed for the head with the Magum - KABOOM and it's head was gone, so that made me cheer out loudly.
Finish time (Good Ending) [sp] 'Saved' Mia even though Ethan and her are still infected[/sp] - 7h35m on Normal. Doubt I'll do it on Madhouse, there isn't much replay ability there.

I found it useful for when you get the [sp]snake key[/sp] and they ambush you with two missing leg crawlers. I let one in at a time and it was easy as shit to deal with despite me having very little ammo

Actually madhouse introduces a bunch of new features that are really cool for replay value.
[sp]Items are in different locations[/sp]
[sp]Antique coins gain additional uses with a lot more items locked in cages[/sp]
[sp]Daddy follows you around the house relentlessly even after the garage fight[/sp]
I beat Ethan Must Die.
That was tough.
The reward for beating it is [sp]a big fat nothing.[/sp]

hahahahahah
fuck that :nope:

Honestly, it feels like a glitch when he shows up once again then never seems to appear again afterwards, so madhouse is just putting things right.
Finished the game. Loved it. I was a bit worried that with a season pass and DLC on the way that the game wouldn't wrap up the story, but it did that pretty well, with the exception of Lucas. [sp]I did find it interesting that he wasn't under the control of eve. I had a feeling he was a different kind of evil after reading about the kid in the attic, as I thought that would be before the infection.[/sp]
Gameplay was great. Actually felt like a resident evil game with all the backtracking and puzzles. I know some people here didn't enjoy it but I loved [sp]the ship area, and how it took your weapons away but still put you up against the mold. I had real dread walking along those corridors.[/sp]
[sp]Final "boss" was shit, though. They could have done far more with it.[/sp]

by the time you do madhouse though you'll have the albert pistol though so jack should be around as much as he can

While I think using unlockables kinda cheapens Madhouse a little, i'm not one to talk given I cheated the game here and there.
But I also don't think it's a difficulty that should be someone's first experience if they pre-ordered.
I keep on getting my shit slapped by Jack on Madhouse in the garage and having to sit through the two cutscenes that lead up to it is annoying. I am shooting him in the face with Albert pistol and he just doesn't give two shits, he'll run faster than me, spin me around and slap me over his knee and I die in two knees to the faces.
