if you want to strafe in a third person horror maybe you should be playin different games? you also don't need to do it for any degree of success. the whole point of the games is they're meant to be stressful. and that's good.
Just because I don't have to do it doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to. I like being in complete control of my character in any game where reaction time and shit like that matters. And I'd rather have the game create that stressful feeling with other methods other than bad controls. Silent Hill games have tank controls and yet they have plenty more stuff that stresses and makes you feel uneasy outside of controls. A game shouldn't rely on hard to use controls as its only way of creating challenge.

And yeah I did really like RE4 because the combat in that was actually satisfying. Early RE games just don't have anything to offer that I'm interested in. The horror in them comes almost completely from the tank controls, the stories aren't really that interesting and I don't find those kind of puzzles that interesting either.

no though? it's the intentional design of the game? it DOES mean you shouldn't be able to - as i said, the audience for these games loves that. if you're not that audience, cool, play a different game. if you don't get the point, it's not for you. don't play it. but don't start saying an intentional design choice that is hugely successful and has a fanbase is bad.

then what is the point of you complaining about the tank controls when obviously the game doesn't appeal to you?

I'm not saying it's objectively bad, I'm just saying that for some people it's not a hurdle they can get over easily and if they don't, that completely ruins the whole game.

Well I mean, strafing in Silent Hill games is usually this awkward side-shuffle that makes it look like your character's about to pull a geriatric dance or something. It was always more of a positioner than something for avoidance. Resident Evil just sort of gives you that Capcom standard of pattern recognition so you need to realize when to run out of something's way and when to pull up the gun and blast it in the back or so forth. But to each their own I suppose.

i'm not convinced by that though, i feel like anyone who's been playing video games for years should be able to easily and quickly adapt to tank controls. i just don't understand how they're hard to play. in full honesty i can't see it from your perspective. i feel more limited by playing a game with two thumbsticks instead of kbm than i do with tank controls in general. re1 and 0 on pc with kbm is very ideal.
I wish they would create a new RE that follows the formula of the classic REs (1+2+3).

I can adapt to them but even if I do they don't really make me feel like I'm in proper control over my character.

yeah this is what i'm saying. all of the gameplay is designed around your given moveset. enemies telegraph their attacks, you're meant to pick up on when to shoot, when to run, when to turn. there is a design to it. just adding a full range of movement would make the gameplay pointless.

to me, it feels a lot more human. realistically cumbersome (although exaggerated by things like lack of strafe). and that sense of weight and realism also adds to the tenseness. it just feels good
It's all about mentality and accepting the way the controls are. You just have to get used to them. I had a tough time playing resident evil 3 and alone in the dark 4 or dino crisis but once you get used to it you enjoy it, I did at least. I don't know I just enjoyed the games soo much that I never gave a fuck about the controls. by the way my favorite from the series would be resident evil outbreak #1 and #2. Resident evil 3 was a hell of a ride when i was a kid and resident evil 4 too . Can't believe that resident evil 4 is old. 4 was so new and refreshing.
in re1 and re0's latest pc ports they've added in a 'modern' movement which turns your player around on a dime, and it's really awful. it doesn't work for the kind of game

it just seems like yall dont know how to use them?
Anyone who has seen footage of or played RE7, there's one thing that's eating away at me that I need to know and I'll even spoiler the question to be safe.
[sp]Are there any zombies or zombie-like creatures or monsters other than the family and the mold things in the game? I don't need specifics, I just want to know if there's more. Part of me will be disappointed if there's nothing else but I still think it'll be a great game.[/sp]

From the gameplay and media I've seen there hasn't been any but you never know
though there does seem to be a huge emphasis on [sp]the family[/sp] so I wouldn't count on it
Grabbing a friend and getting all the achievements on RE5 co-op is one heck of a ride.
Began replaying RE5 with my gf and it's so freaking fun. Really missed playing it coop.

I remember playing through it in like 2 days with my uncle then slowly trying to unlock everything.
As far as co-op games go I'd say it's a pretty fucking good one.

are you insinuating i dont know how to use the modern controls? i do. they just suck and don't fit the game. and they sort of break when the camera angle changes
Where have you seen it for $30-35?
CDKey sites. I know, they're not always trustworthy, but the one I use has always been 100% legit with me.

Not my problem if you can't use them
which is literally your argument too so
I wish they would create a new RE that follows the formula of the classic REs (1+2+3).
I'm hoping the upcoming RE2 remake will be in the same style as the first one.
I want to sit down with the RE7 demo and get through it, and yet I don't want to get spooked the fuck out.
Goddammit.

It's not that spooky.
Okay well, it's pretty fucking eerie and unsettling like the ending of Blair Witch(the original, not the shit sequel)
Not my problem if you can't use them

no it isn't. those are controls that are shoehorned into a game that isn't designed around it. they're a bad half measure and they're literally broken (as in they don't function as they should, and break the game). you say the tank controls are broken, even though they function exactly as they should and don't break the game. there's a difference.
The gaming landscape has always been changing its focus.
A tank control game probably wouldn't sell well with the core audience.
The focus has changed a lot, but didn't Capcom say the reason why they're making RE2 remake is because the remastered versions of REmake and RE0 sold pretty well? It'd be kinda weird for them to stray away from that style when it's what the people wanted.
Oh ya, RE8 and on will never go back to fixed camera angles and tank controls.
i really hope it does. i think you could do a near-photo-realistic fixed angle tank controlled horror. imagine how sick that would be. who wouldn't buy that ??
I'd personally love that since my favorite RE's are REmake and Outbreak. Capcom are going to stick with first person horror though. I'm guessing the next game might be first person horror set in a city sorta like a spiritual successor to RE2 & 3.
So can we conclude that RE5 is the best RE in recent years
I dunno, the revelations games were pretty good.

I mean what are they going to do after first-person? RE is an ever-changing series.
So ive heard [sp]Wesker might be alive.[/sp]
i like how madhouse difficulty is like the norm for the old games.
i wish it was unlocked from the get-go

It is, just only if you pre-order. :^)
