will probably get crucified around here but I'm still over WW2 from the durge of it we had 10 years ago. at least with ~tacticool warfare~ future shooters there's a lot of room for imaginative stuff. I feel like WW2 has been done to death bc2 vietnam is my favorite bf since bf2. it was nice to go back to basics with just a few archetypal guns and vehicles, plenty of vegetation to fuck off snipers, no lock on missiles etc but surely 2142 is all but confirmed right? I mean there's no way it's not coming soon with the callouts they had for it in bf4 last stand
70s/80s Cold War gone hot would be cool. Like if World in Conflict were a Battlefield game. I'm guessing it's probably going to be 2143.
2143 still seems the most likely to me. Both because of all the 2142 stuff in Final Stand and because going into the future is just the current trend. My dream Battlefield though has become Battlenonsense's fictional Battlefield 1982. It's everything I want in a Battlefield game.

Red Orchestra 2? i'm really stumped on high quality WW2 campaigns in the last 5 years. i'm still looking at Call of Duty 2's set pieces through rose tinted goggles, that shit was seriously awesome back in 2004. i agree that it's still a little too soon to return to the second Great War, but i honestly think if you gave it two or three years, the right company could develop an absolutely incredible World War 2 game again.
The only problem with going back to a setting like WW2 is every shooter now has a huge amount of character and weapon customization. Going back to and older time period would mean there would be less, if not none at all. What little was in COD:WAW is probably the extent of what they could do, and I don't think most modern shooter players would want to give that up.
well you for sure could not make a Call of Duty or Battlefield-esque title these days like you would make a Blops3 or anything for sure. but I think the major part of the game would be the actual experience of being a soldier. I think the humanity and camaraderie among platoon mates could be shown in a really exciting and innovative way. imagine a World War 2 game with Mass Effect sorts of character development. I think the potential is there.

Or maybe they could do alternate reality WW2, where it didn't end in 1945 and actually takes place couple of years later, which could lead to some weapon modifications. Being historically strict isn't that fun either, especially for casual games like this (IMO of course). Actually, I would love for an asymmetrical game set in WW2 human tech vs. some futuristic alien invaders; low-tech ballistics vs energy weapons <3.
I'd love some Dieselpunk Battlefield game
Am I the only one who doesnt want to see a WW2 themed game? I'm so sick of the "futuristic" stuff, but also done with all the WW2 / WW1 stuff. I played the heck out of all games centered around this and feel fulfilled in that area :(
Well, Vietnam and Korea are left, otherwise there's "modern" and I feel the same way with that "theme". I don't want BF5 to be a "modern" one again.
I would love a Cold War Battlefield. Or somewhere in Afghanistan.
I'd love some Dieselpunk Battlefield game
That would be totally OK in my books. One of the problems with a new WW2 game is that this genre has been overdone in the 00's. Also the setting doesn't allow for most of the gadgets, like UAVs, that Battlefield has started to rely on. Dieselpunk allows for a really broad art direction that hasn't really been done before. I suppose it could be semi-realistic, with a mix of real life WW2 weaponry and fantasy weapons. Gadgets from the latest battlefield games could be dieselpunkified, so you'd have stuff like really bulky turboprop powered UAVs and such. Perhaps titan mode with fortified zeppelins. Also there could be urban maps with a lot of verticality.
I'd imagine an estetic like the beginning of The New Order would be nice
I'd want an 80's Cold War game before an alternate history one. Though honestly, 2143 is most likely simply because of the trend of futuristic games. Though I didnt think about the fact that Titanfall 2 is coming out in the next few years and EA might not want DICE to make a game that would compete with that
So like Black Ops ?
More like the campaign missions in Black Ops 2. Also I realize now that an escalated Cold War setting would be an alternate history, but I meant more like dieselpunk or TNO kind of alternate histories
So like Black Ops ?
What's wrong with that? As if the latest Battlefield games have been so different from what CoD did.
Let me just jump on top a roof with my jetpack while 1-hit-killing enemies with my futuristic sniper I beg to differ.
Modern Warfare 1, 2, 3...
What's wrong with that? As if the latest Battlefield games have been so different from what CoD did.
Even BF2 did commies vs america. I mean, no jetpacks, but 1942 stood for those.
Modern Warfare 1, 2, 3...
How many years was that ago? 2007, 2009, 2011? Very solid comparison there as "the latest battlefield games" have been BF3 (2011), BF4 (2013) and Hardline (2015), all in present day (albeit Hardline is set in 2020 from what I've read). Not a huge jump in time, is it now? :v: I don't see warfare like in Black Ops 2, Advanced Warfare or Black Ops 3 happen anytime soon. Still, I guess a WW2 game would be way more enjoyable than "yet another" futuristic game. I'm starting to dislike this theme in online-FPS.
Railgun? I mean, no jetpacks, but 1942 stood for those.
It's a battle-pickup and this not direct part of the game imho. You can't pick it as a primary at the start of a round and seeing as they nerfed it into oblivion, it's rarely being used nowadays. Hell, most DLC maps in EU at least are almost always empty. There's only a few servers hosting the Final Stand DLC with an active but small community playing those maps. Usually Dawnbreaker / Zavod / Lockers / Metro / a few Dragon's Teeth maps and the community maps.
remember when futuristic combat was new and fresh? i still remember losing my mind over how cool CoD4 looked even though that was supposed to be modern day
remember when futuristic combat was new and fresh? i still remember losing my mind over how cool CoD4 looked even though that was supposed to be modern day
I now remember my disappointment for: Titanfall, Advanced Warfare, Blops3. You know what gave me that same feeling? When the mod for Crysis back in the day, Mechwarrior Living Legends, came online. Or when Renegade X was released. Sure these 2 aren't 'BIG', but they gave me a more thrilling feeling than any of the recent "Futuristic Combat Simulators" :v
Even BF2 did commies vs america.
Only in the Special Forces expansion. In the rest of the game it was US vs MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition) vs China.
I think Titanfall, AW, and Black Ops 3 were all rad in different ways since they used the future setting pretty differently in each. Honestly, out of the 3 only Titanfall was really disappointing since it lacked in content and progression. Also, nobody ever claimed these were Futuristic Combat Simulators, they're arcade FPS games with cool mechanics as a result of their setting. I wouldn't even really group Titanfall in with AW or Blops 3 simply because it has mechs. Battlefield is pretty much the only series that hasn't done 'near-future' (even though Black Ops 3 takes place in 2065, AW is 2054, and Titanfall isn't specified (which means none of them are near future)), albeit they've done far future with 2142. I would at least be interested in seeing what they can bring to the table in terms of mobility options and art style since their engine is beautiful.
Say what you will about Titanfall, but it's wave defense mode is entirely worth the £10 I payed for it. It's a lot of fun. Also, if anybody hasn't noticed, Origin are having a massive sale right now. Even on Consoles.
I want a 80's alt-reality BF where the cold war turns into WW3.
Only in the Special Forces expansion. In the rest of the game it was US vs MEC (Middle Eastern Coalition) vs China.
China isn't communist?
China isn't communist?
Oh, huh. I could've sworn that said Soviets and not "commies."
