is the deal today only? maybe we can play if I can pick it up tomorrow
Until the tenth. BF4 is on sale as well, and Robbery for HL and Dragons Teeth for BF4 are free.
So plenty of time.
As someone who's sick of future shooters and who never played 2142, I can safely say no.
TBH with 2142, it was nothing like the generic future/"scifi" futures you see plastered all over today. The setting was actually plausible, kind of tragic if you looked into the background of it (DICE could actually make a decent, non-generic campaign for a change) and none of the tech was especially far out there. The most advanced bit of tech I saw was probably the active camo which even then had its limitations. It only lasted for a short period of time and you couldn't use other weapons or vehicles whilst using it, plus you were still vaguely visible if you were close enough. Everything else was basically based off current tech, titans were freighters which traveled by air rather than sea and battle walkers were basically a maneuverable alternative to tanks.

I fucking miss my flying sentry drone defender as a squad leader in 2142... that was so fun

might have to hop on that then :v:
I'm not too concerned about the new games setting, I just hope they don't focus too hard on making it look good and give more consideration to gameplay, things like canned knifing animations look great in trailers but they along with counter knifing made it almost too risky to use most of the time. BC2's knifing was great but I'd still be happy with making the animations a little more punchy and quick and removing/improving the press f to win system.
I just wanna stab people again :ohno:
I'm perfectly fine with the current knifing system, they could just remove counter-knifing.
Knifing is meant to be a humiliation move or used when completely desperate.
BFBC2's knifing system was waaaay too much like Call of Duty, that shit was insane.
Don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

and it was the weapon with most my kills
Why not do melee like the newer Halo games (tap to quick attack, hold to play animation)? Quick attacks from the front would deal like 50 damage, but animation attacks would play the frontstab animation, counterknife and all, and be an instant kill; from the back both attacks would instantly kill but the animation would take longer and look cooler, maybe the quick attack wouldn't give you tags? I'm just throwing this out there but I'll be happy with anything as long as it's not the BC2 lunge-20-meters-forward-like-a-fucking-Jedi system.
My wishlist for BF5, assuming it's 2143:
-No damage reduction perks of any kind, whether bullet-based (body armor) or explosion-based (flak jacket). You shouldn't have to cross your finger for your shotgun slug or sniper rifle shot to kill someone at close range.
-Improved vehicle handling. Vehicles should stick to the ground more at lower speeds and be less floaty. Vehicle-to-vehicle collision should be completely overhauled, similar to Hardline.
-Better handling of netcode when it comes to missiles and counter-measures. If a vehicle pops countermeasures, simply have the missile veer-off and detonate instead of having it circle the airship or implement a maximum turn radius to missiles and have the missiles actually TRACK where you're going instead of where you ARE.
-Keep boat combat, that was pretty fun. Maybe add another boat type too?
-Bring back the VTOLS, not more distinction between jet and helicopter. Maybe have 3 different types: Attack, Gunship and Transport.
-For Titan mode, remove the mounted cannons and AA. They weren't completely useless but they were an unneeded distraction.
-Rework the class dynamics a bit. I'm fine with 4 classes but I don't agree that engineers should be the class that both repairs and attacks vehicles. My suggestion would be to give the rocket launchers to the support class instead, and give the grenade launchers, C4 and Claymore to the engineer class (including any weapon similar to the XM25). Engineers get to keep mines, though. Assault should simply be renamed to Medic and be forced to have both a medkit and revive tool. Recon only gets one or two long range sniper rifles. Their projectile is fairly slow (maybe 250-300m/s) but has very little or no drop, is a one-hit kill to chest, neck and head, does anti-material damage (40-60% to choppers and light vehicles, 10-15% to tanks), instead of a scope glint it's forced to have a laser sight (abstracted as the ranger-finder that calculates for the bullet drop) and can only hold 2-3 rounds before a reload. The rest is marksman rifles that can go FULL auto but have horrible hipfire accuracy and only hold 10-15 rounds.
-Please, PLEASE add a TON of ladders and elevators to buildings if it's possible to get on top of them. I'm not against people camping on top of buildings but it should NOT be easy to defend it. See Zavod as a good way of doing it, there's like 3 ladders per building, difficult to defend it.
-Add more destruction. Even if we can't BRING down tall buildings, I'd like to see all the facade be destructible. Add a little bit deformation of metal containers if hit, maybe a small hole if hit by a tank round or rocket launcher. Not everything need to be annihilated and destroyed but I should feel like anything CAN be damaged in some way.
How about A Post-Nuclear Battlefield Game?
How about A Post-Nuclear Battlefield Game?
That BF3 dlc based around the earthquake was pretty cool. I don't think a whole game should be based around a disaster but certain maps would be cool. Maybe a map that has a silo and you can detonate the missile and it can fuck up the map?

Instead of earthquake, there is a nuke, flatting the entire level.
I would love the next Battlefield to slow down the infantry combat, like removing the infinite running and add more penalty to jumping around. Instead have more ways to travel around scattered around the maps and force people to use environmental cover and other stuff to defend themselves instead of running, bouncing around.
How about A Post-Nuclear Battlefield Game?
Josh Sawyer of Obsidian said that he would like to make a Battlefield-like Fallout spinoff called Fallout: Resource Wars
It would be a game set in the Fallout world's Europe during the Euro-Middle Eastern war that took place there around the 2050s. Focused on team-based multiplayer, the gameplay would be a blend of Motocross Madness pacing, Battlefield: 1942 foot and vehicle combat, and slightly longer-than-CS duration rounds. A salvaging element would be included giving the player the choice of either repairing damaged vehicles/weapons for use in the next round, or scrapping them for parts.
The plot would involve a crew of soldiers from the Royal Armoured Corps who become stranded in a war-torn anarchistic northern Italy and have to fight their way to the English Channel in quickly degrading vehicles, scavenging replacements, fuel, and weapons as they go.
I think we will be madly surprised this friday
I think we will be madly surprised this friday
Wonder if that Battlefield 5: Eastern Front thing will be real. Seems like it's before 2142 on the time line but instead takes place when titan development is being finalized? if it turns out to be true
Wonder if that Battlefield 5: Eastern Front thing will be real. Seems like it's before 2142 on the time line but instead takes place when titan development is being finalized? if it turns out to be true
Confirmed fake.
How about A Post-Nuclear Battlefield Game?
An above-ground overgrown city with sporadic / unpredictable Blowouts forcing everyone into the underground areas; some large-scale like a Metro, some small bunkers fit for 1-3 people.
Snipers forced to hide, Tanks to be left abandoned outside (Where they will explode when the blowout hits) then there's the shelter campers keeping a bunker to themselves / their squad.
One thing I noticed is that the game is nowhere being advertised as Battlefield 5, the game is simply stated to be ''the future of battlefield''. Another modern day setting seems unlikely because it's probably not going to be ''battlefield 5'', due to the emphasis on the word ''future'' I'd say it's going to be a future setting, likely a successor to 2142 ( That's why they couldn't call it battlefield:5, it's going to be battlefield:2143 or something like that. )
Here's a quick guide:
Battlefield: Eastern Front "leak" - Confirmed fake.
Battlefield: 1944 "leak" - Confirmed fake.
Anything you hear about a modern setting with civil disorder in the US that stresses the female protagonist or whatever is fake.
"New" BF1942 timeline art is for tenth anniversary.
All links to individual games on the battlefield website will redirect to the event page.
Road to Battlefield picture is from 1943.
DICE has been posting jackfrags videos about every game in the series sequentially. These are not hints.
"BFHero" in the source code for the event page refers to the "hero" (central banner) image and is a CSS style sheet term, not the title of the game.
It's almost certain DICE has not dropped a single hint at all.
There's about 49 hours until the reveal. It's unlikely they'll be teasing anything else on purpose.
The only outstanding "leak" that hasn't been decisively disproven nor verified in any way involves a swiss retailer posting a listing for the game calling it a "WWI tactical shooter".
Another point of interest is supposedly trusted Neogaf Insider user "John Harker" (who is one of the people who talked about COD:IW a week or so before the official reveal) insinuating that the game has some sort of (alternate?) historical setting. He's been doing this subtly for about a year now, and it's kind of vague what war he's talking about.
There's records of reddit users making the WWI claim before the swiss retailer "leak" (probably a shot in the dark), and every single claim of "my friend works at EA blah blah" i've seen corroborates the WWI theory, but that's not actual evidence, just a personal observation.

The title could be literally anything and would inherently spoil the setting, which they don't want to do, so they're keeping it a secret. They would say "the future of Battlefield" if it were Battlefield: Primal. It's the future of the series, the next game. They're not emphasizing that word, you're putting emphasis on it yourself.
The only "hint" is the emphasis on the "Future of Battlefield" and the description for 2142 on the Battlefield website says: "Battlefield 2142 still has a hardcore following that doesn’t want to leave the future behind."
[editline]4th May 2016[/editline]
Those are subtle enough to keep us speculating but clear enough to get us hyped, classic marketing strat.
It would work if that description was the same for other languages. In french, "Battlefield 2142 still has a hardcore following that doesn’t want to leave the future behind." is replaced by something meaning "Battlefield 2142 offers an immersive environment like it would be in a Sci-Fi blockbuster"
We have 100% nothing leading us to guess what is the next BF setting is going to be. Let's wait for friday instead of taking the risk of expecting something that the next Battlefield isn't going to be, and then being disappointed.
What if the reveal trailer zooms in on a beach with an orchestral theme and men yelling like it's D-Day or Peleliu or something then a futuristic dropship flies on screen, cue action.

It would confirm both speculations / rumors and a mixed-tech WW2 would be a great theme imo.
Man, after reading what someone said about small med packs instead of the large box, I started to use them more. JFC I'll never go back to the big box; having faster regen and being able to move while healing is infinitely more useful.

Seems we're getting a pre-show about the history of the games.
They're really going all out with this event.
And then hardline 2 is announced
Edit:
Also seems to be advertised a bunch by AMD, another partnership Mantle style? https://twitter.com/AMD_UK/status/727883178501939201
And then hardline 2 is announced
The one thing that has been confirmed is that the next BF game will have a military focus.
The one thing that has been confirmed is that the next BF game will have a military focus.
I remember reading about that a while back.
Would still be funny to watch the internets reaction if all this build up led to that.
I just hope its not a modern style shooter or "near future"
Man, after reading what someone said about small med packs instead of the large box, I started to use them more. JFC I'll never go back to the big box; having faster regen and being able to move while healing is infinitely more useful.
Seriously one of the best features of BF4 and severely missed in Hardline. Being able to heal a squad mate while running needs to come back.

I imagine it's DX12 Async compute or perhaps Vulkan in that case.
Watch as we get a Cowboys and Indians standalone to go with out Cops and Robbers.
I imagine it's DX12 Async compute or perhaps Vulkan in that case.
AMD's been very quiet about Vulkan, and IIRC DICE was heavily involved in the making of DX12; I'd presume the former.
All I want for BF5 is for guns to actually have some damn recoil so theres more emphasis on burst and semi-auto at longer ranges. I'm not a fan of just constantly hearing everyone running around with their 2 inch long smg, going BRATATATATAT at some guy like 200M away because its just as potent as an M16 firing in burst. I feel like just making full auto a lot less accurate at longer ranges would be good enough at slowing down the combat without actually making things slower.
Just going to repeat this, though I'm prepared to be disappointed.
