Dude on the battlefield subreddit leaked some game details months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/4i5zcn/battlefield_1_ww1_info_leaked_from_2_months_ago/
Contains some info on the locations and gamemodes.
I don't think melee will factor in as much as they want it to, it never has.
It will when everyone's going to have slow-ass bolt-action rifles. Especially when you get up close, no one's going to wait for their rifle to load, most people will just charge and try beating the shit out of the other guy.
There is going to be a Public beta.

It goes back to the fact that not every weapon will be a bolt-action rifles. I wish y'all would stop saying it. And even then, someone would just switch to a pistol instead of melee.

Nope.
But the EA Access beta is in June.
This game will devolve into everyone running around with Lewis guns and MP18s instead of rifles. I can guarantee it.
That collector's edition looks extremely mediocre for over $200 :v:

I bet it's the statue. The literally 2 foot tall freaking statue. I wonder what the cloth poster displays though.
Apparently PC isn't good enough to get a collectors edition, but interesting tid-bit from the descripton:
... even the grounds on which you're fighting can be blasted apart.
Assuming it's 100% correct, it sounds as if terrain deformation will be returning from the old alpha and beta of BF3.
edit:
Oh my, PC copies don't even come with a disk.
i need a link to that battlefield theme played at the end of the stream
The woman on the horse looks like a story character with that facepaint. In other words -I bet horses will probably be singleplayer only. Otherwise the guy would have been more clear in his response.
Still, the game looks awesome. Can't wait to find out more.

Scout ahead later this year when the first new map is added – get there a week early so you can navigate it like a master by release day.
Not all bolt action rifles are slow. The Lee-Enfield is known for having a ridiculously fast rate of fire for a bolt action. There's also straight pull bolt actions like the Steyr-Mannlicher, Ross Rifle and the Schmidt-Rubin which are fast too. All viable for close quarters, but it's still a better option to bayonet a guy through the head instead of hoping you don't get shot while cycling your bolt.
So I assume we'll be playing as the Harlem Hellfighter, what I think is a British troop who's standing in front of the Zepplin and that woman(?) in Persia(?) on horseback?
This game will devolve into everyone running around with Lewis guns and MP18s instead of rifles. I can guarantee it.
Not when bolt actions will kill at longer range and could drop someone more effeciently than an auto could with better accuracy. People use smgs in battlefield, but just as many DMRs and sniper rifles don't they?
I hope we get all the nastier stuff that got outlawed, like notched bladed knives, expanding bullets/dum dums and poison bombs.

Judging by the multi-front campaign statement, the Harlem Hellfighter is either just there for the advertising, or he'll be one of the campaign characters considering that guy staring down a Zeppelin seems important almost and in similar uniform.
Those desert scenes, may be the Arab Revolt against the Ottomans, it took place in the same time frame as the war, and one of the Digital Deluxe bonuses is Lawrence of Arabia inspired gear.
So any info on when the Beta's coming out?
hey guys i found a leaked screenshot of the NEXT game after battlefield 1
[t]http://thereticule.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/screen010.jpg[/t]
This is specifically why I think calling it Battlefield 1 was actually kinda smart, seeing as it takes place earlier than all other games :v:
Nope.

Guess I wont send my xbone with broken disc reader in til the access beta ends.

I wish.
They picked the one era that's almost as uninteresting for a game as space IMO.
Going back to WW2 would be fine since it's been missing for a long time, anywhere from 1945-2020 or so would also be fine, but I just don't see how WW1/trench wars would work in Battlefield at all, especially with the weapons-per-kit based gameplay.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rifleman class that only gets bolt actions and maybe a Fedorov Avtomat as the top tier unlock.

They're covering numerous theaters of WWI warfare, and bending the rules a little bit so there's an actual game to play instead of playing it wholly accurate. Then again the series has always done that, so it's no big deal in my book. World War I on the other hand is barely represented at all outside of a couple games like Verdun and historical strategy titles, and there's a surprising amount of things it contains that most people seem to overlook because of the general descriptions and World War II overshadowing it significantly.
So any info on when the Beta's coming out?

Game is out in October.
So September.

We can speculate for entire pages, we sadly won't get to know 'till it's released
I'm sure DICE have something planned - after all, EA does have high expectations for Battlefield games
They better have the Christmas Truce

It's possible. If DICE wanted the game to be even slightly more realistic than it is, we'd never see it, but we should be lucky there.
I'm already seeing people lose interest purely based on the setting. Honestly I think they should have just waited until E3 and done a more detailed reveal there.
Also feels like the Final Stand shit was just a massive cock tease.
