We're a few days less than 4 weeks away from EA play and the E3 conferences.
Pretty excited this year for whatever reason.
Final Stand is now on the house btw. Pick it up if you haven't already.
Get it while it's hot.
Releasing DLC's they know no one is buying for free to keep populations up is such a good idea I wish more publishers(see: Activision with CoD) did it.
Get blueballed like the rest of us at every mention of bf2143
There's something strange in the neighborhood

Chainmail visors? Trench shields? Face guards? Body armour that doubled as rifle guards?
Wow, never knew that WWI was so medieval.

Oh come on, this is something straight out of the 1400's.

I'm guessing that unlike medieval plate armor that was rather light those things must have weighted a ton to have any kind of hope of being able to deflect rifle bullets.

They weren't intended to deflect rifle bullets, just shrapnel and the occasional ricochet. I think shrapnel killed and maimed more than direct hits from rifles. The armor was heavy, but it wasn't heavier than medieval plate armor. It didn't catch on because it was bulky and uncomfortable and the few soldiers who were issued armor ditched it at the first opportunity.
Check out the "splatter mask", a piece of armor for British tank crews:

The Brodie helmet is based off the medieval Kettlepot Helmet, and the Stahlhelm was based on the Medieval Sallet helm.
The entire war people were looking looking to the past to go forward. The guy who wrote that book actuall designed some of the American armor featured in there, though it was rekected for being too bulky and his helmets were rejected for being too much like the Stahlhelm.
It helps too that he was curator of the Arms and Armor gallery at the Met in NYC and had a fascination with Mediveal and Renaissance armor :v:
While I don't own Battlefront (2015), I'm curious what you guys think of EA saying the reason they lack campaign was because of making it in time for the movie.
Personally I think it's mostly cause the first Battlefront didn't have one and the 2nd game was pretty shit with theirs (IMO)
EDIT: I ment 2015. Thanks for someone pointing that out

They saw a room for improvement after noting the unsatisfactory metacritic score.
I'm always down for developers improving their products
but I watch a video by Angry Joe last night funny enough on the subject, were he said they would add a singleplayer, in the next game.... and charge full price for it, as it was on the topic of content that could be added into the game, but was sold as an extra (10 dollars for shortcuts and 2 emotes)
funny sad world if it turned out like that
While I don't own Battlefront (2013)
Uh do you mean 2015?
EA Battlefront 2 should do a Galactic conquest mode that works like Red Orchestra's campaign mode.

The standard-issue helmets being based off of late-medieval or Victorian helmets (the Adrian helmet was an offshoot of a firefighter helmet that was an offshoot of a dragoon helmet) is perfectly understandable.
The fact that they had helmets that a 15th century knight would consider plain but entirely functional tells me that they took many steps backwards.
But I'm just a 21st century animation student with the benefit of hindsight and the internet, so what do I know?

The Kettle Hat was in use starting in the High Medieval Era, not late (so about 1001-1300), and even then the Stahlhelm was also partially based upon Renaissance Lobster-Tail Helmets and Roman Gallic helms.
And when it comes to protecting one's face and head, it's a good idea to see what's been done before and to see if it can be adapted - especially since they didn't have the materials available to us today such as Kevlar.

Again, this is a subject that I have next to no experience with, plus I have the benefit of hindsight as I can see what clearly worked and what didn't. So my opinion of 'this looks like they took 3 steps backwards' is not really one to be taken seriously.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it was purely part of the deal with Disney since the game was essentially the tie in for TFA, Disney probably didnt want any sort of story in the game that would affect how people view the new movie. Probably the same reason there was no Prequel stuff. Not saying they didnt use that to their advantage and put that time and effort into other places though.
I am curious to see how the story is for BF1 though, especially since DICE's last few attempts at story-telling werent the greatest (though I actually kind of liked BF3's campaign).
I hope there's something in the game that shows details on the equipment and the historical accuracy of it.
Expecting a slew of trogs saying "its not even real WW1!" the minute they see something outside of what they saw in Blackadder.

Good point, considering Disney did Snuff out the extended universe (Thank god). Disney does love to have their hands in alot of shit lately

I wonder if they are going to give BAR to american units, or include it in general. i would feel it could be slightly op? However it would actually be even fitting since the whole gun was actually made for walking and shooting with it through the no-mans-land. And it did see action in mid 1918 in the western front.

I mean given that we saw a guy pretty clearly walking/shoulder firing a Lewis gun, I think it's fairly safe to say that the portrayal of machine guns wont be 100% entirely realistic
not to say that a Lewis couldn't be shoulder fired, but people wouldn't be using it the way it was used in the trailer.
The Lewis Gun was used for Walking Fire tactics
I have never seen anyone shoulder fire a Lewis gun, but I'm sure it's doable. Probably not real pleasant but I guess if you're stuck carrying one and something you want to shoot is in front of you, you'll figure it out.
I suspect there will be 3 categories of machineguns in this game. Heavy ones that can barely be shoulder fired, but are very powerful while deployed ( MG08, vickers ). Medium sized machineguns which are effective both deployed and shoulder fired ( Lewis, Cauchat ) and maybe a lighter categorie which weapons somewhat function as assault rifles and you won't deploy so much. ( BAR-1918 and perhaps the Madsen-machinegun )
I'd like to see multiple types of machine guns in that vein, although I think they might just cop out and have the biggest guns being the mounted mgs we saw in previous games, but on a per faction basis.
My first week on a battlefield.

There is historical precedent:
The participation of Portugal in World War I took place mostly in Flanders, which is in Belgium. On April 9, 1918. [...] Milhais found himself in the midst of the battle of La Lys, in the field of Isberg, covering the withdrawal of Portuguese and British soldiers. Within a few hours 1,938 men were killed, 5,198 wounded and about 7,000 taken prisoner. Milhais was in charge of one of their Lewis guns on 9 April 1918. During Operation Georgette, when the German Army attacked his division, Milhais stood up with his Lewis machine gun and defended against assaults by two German regiments by laying down intense fire, causing many German casualties. He managed to cover the retreat of Portuguese and British alike despite coming under heavy attack himself. He fired in all directions and stayed at his post until he ran out of ammunition.
