Battlefield Franchise Megathread V1 - 'Hardline is still DLC' Edition

This latest patch did nothing on my end for this game.
Still lags quite often, still die behind cover from lag shooting, still have unregistered hits (but see blood), still have the lagging die from 1 bullet issue, etc. I think for BF5, EA/DICE better invest in MUCH better server structure for their dedicated servers. And if the technology is not there, get rid of levelution in the coding and make the game less pretty. It is plain and simple an unreliable game right now, and super frustrating to play at times. Because it can go from being almost perfect, to the most lag filled game I have played, all within the same server, at different times of the day.
rant over.
Odd. I've always found the BF4 netcode to be pretty good all things considered. Hasn't Battle(non)sense even tested that the BF4 netcode was more responsive than CSGO's?
Since the subject is going on, here's the best illustrated explanation for why getting shot behind cover happens, why any lag happens, and why making netcode for Battlefield is harder than for most first person shooters. Coincidentally Battlenonsense just put out this video and it's extremely relevant to what JJ4prez was saying.

I know anecdotes and whatever, but I find BF4's netcode to be the best the series has ever had. Which, isn't saying much to be fair, but yeah I rarely have problems myself.
I don't know, maybe I'm just more tolerant of any weirdness that happens because I understand what's going on and why it's going on? Getting killed behind walls while moving quickly is hardly unique to Battlefield, and while it definitely used to be a lot worse, it's to the point where I think the only reason people talk about it so much is because they're so hyper aware of it due to Battlefield's reputation. Even kill trades, especially now that they barely happen, seem to only happen in cases where it's perfectly feasible that we really did kill each other because BF4's bullet velocity is slow enough that it's not really that unreasonable a thing to happen.
So I'm using Game Time on Battlefield 4 and I felt as though I'd just go ahead and get the campaign out of the way.
A single session of around 5 hours and god damn it that was awful. I even replayed the last mission an extra two times just to get the other unlocks for multiplayer. I experienced the large cloth banners clipping into the hallways from the outside, t-pose soldiers, glitchy helicopters, levels not loading in time, soldiers shooting me through solid cover (even double checked this) and at one point I was completely blocked from advancing due to soldiers blocking me from moving.
Makes me wish that they would scrap singleplayer already and just go back to making multiplayer only experiences. The last Battlefield singleplayer I actually enjoyed was BFBC2's, and even then it wasn't too special.
EDIT:
Multiplayer is good though, enjoying it quite a bit. :v:
Any EU players? I've played 21 hours solo and had fun, but I can imagine some co-ordination would be awesome.

I mean, I know you play a lot, but I cannot take what you said seriously.
CSGO runs at like a 60-120hz tick rate, Insurgency is at 120hz, BF4 in the beginning was at like 15hz, now I believe it's at 30hz. In no way shape or form, BF4 cannot run better than games like COD, CS or Insurgency. There's TONS of youtube explanations (Why485 posted one above). Also, "dusting" is MUCH MUCH MUCH worse now. Go in a tank, shoot a chopper, notice that likely 30% of your rounds won't hit it. Go in a jet, lock onto a RHIB, Jetski, etc, notice how 30% of your guided missiles won't hit it. The amount of times I have gotten killed because of dusting with my shotgun (seeing blood when shooting at people) and NOT killing them, is frankly super sad.
If you have a ton of hours in the game and never noticed any netcode problems, well, I simply have no idea what to tell you. Because all of my clan members (from US and CAN) have raged numerous times due to DICE problems in the code and their crap servers. Know how many times I have raged in Insurgency caused by dev? 0.
But, go play games like Insurgency for 50+ hours, you will notice how badly BF4 runs.
*All of this aside, BF4 MP is still super fun once you understand that it's loaded with BS. How there is competitive tournaments for this game, is simply beyond me.
**Also, Why's video is AMAZING at explaining ping and BF4's terrible tickrate. Much watch video.
In TF2 sniper duels, I would often get killed by the other sniper but when it zoomed in to him there was clearly a splotch of blood on his head where I had clicked on his head right before he shot me.
Fucking ping

It's not what I said.
Applied for the Facepunch EU platoon. Last activity was 2 weeks ago so I'm assuming people still play matches together every now and then.

IIRC, it's ~30Hz for the area around you and has added a cone of high frequency tickrates that's basically your FoV. The recent update changed something to be FPS-based, which is probably that fov cone when you are considered to be "In-Combat".
I don't know what that means exactly, but I'd assume the Tickrate is variable with 30 hz wherever you're not looking, a higher tickrate cone and then whatever FPS you're running when in combat for said cone.

Entirely speculation because I haven't been completely focused on netcode.

IIRC the latest update basically makes it so that you have one tickrate for things like player position, bullets, etc, and another for the simulation that the game runs. It's . . . rather confusing to me, honestly.
That being said the new netcode has to be "switched on" by server operators, who in turn have to get negotiate with server providers, meaning that a lot of servers probably don't/won't ever actually have it running.

There's an NWG server (Hardcore Premium, switches gametypes based on votemaps) that has it on. I noticed the combat felt much more crisp than before the update.

Here's the video I was referring to. Check at around 7:13.

I mismembered the part where he compares CSGO with BF4 but he does mention that the delay at least for damage registration is still very close to other competitive shooters by a handful of miliseconds.
He also mentions that in the end comparing both systems is apples and oranges since CSGO and Insurgency use hitscan and BF4 uses fully simulated projectiles.
Doesn't matter Strawberry, go watch Why's video. It's from Sept 7th, reviewing this latest patch. The game is broken.
Hey, folks. Haven't played in a while. Have any recent patches improved performance? Or should I still avoid playing until I can get more video memory? (Minimum requirements for the game said you must at least have 1 gig of VRAM, which I do, sadly the game still CTD very often.)
Doesn't matter Strawberry, go watch Why's video. It's from Sept 7th, reviewing this latest patch. The game is broken.
Everything in that video is still relevant, and in fact it's even "better" now than it was when he made that. What he was saying was the biggest issue was how soft the hit rejection was for high ping players. The only difference as far as I'm aware between Summer and Sprint netcode wise was the change in precisely that, the frame history time.
Currently, the hit rejection is a lot tighter, which is good for infantry gameplay, but bad for vehicle gameplay. From what's in the CTE right now, it looks like they've reverted that change for the next patch.
"Currently, the hit rejection is a lot tighter, which is good for infantry gameplay"
But clearly the technology that runs the hit rejection is making ' good looking shots ' on my end turn into unregistered shots. Making huge differences in ping on servers run like complete garbage. His methodology of "admins kick all with over a 75 ping" is just nonsense, as no admin or server does this. Max ping kick is usually in the 115-150ms range.
Clan and I were playing last night, the amount of unregistered hits (when you see blood and flinching on the other soldier) and dying behind cover with a 1 hit kill is absolutely insane right now. It's safe to say that this latest summer patch DICE put out was easily their worst patch of 2015. If Windows 10 didn't break my Shadowplay recording, I would have numerous videos for you of proof, as I am always recording.
Man, I don't know what to tell you because I just don't see it when I play. Maybe it's the servers you play on? I play regularly on the same handful of servers that I and most everybody else have decent ping to. I think about 30-100 is the normal range on the server. I was playing last night and never saw anything questionable. I even shot down a helicopter with a tank shell and that's usually where that kind of thing gets really dicey.
I mean, the video you posted is stuff I see on a daily basis. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy playing, but the game has been very frustrating since the Summer patch. Lots of people think so as well. If you and Strawberry don't see anything questionable, than keep playing in those servers and never leave them. Because my entire clan (5-8 people on nightly) all have the same problems all the time when we play. But then again, we all have 1000+ hours in BF4, and have been playing BF and other FPS online games for a decade, so we can be more sensitive to this kind of stuff. I don't know, honestly.
I think the only times I ever see it bad is when a bunch of BRs join a game and ruin it because they all have like 200 ping and get totally bullshit kills as well as have super wonky hit registration on them.
So uh guys, I got my laptop back and after putting all my stuff back in, BF4 keeps on crashing 30 seconds-ish after launch. I already got the latest drivers and stuff, but it still won't budge. Other games and Test Range work fine though.
Any ideas?

Update Punkbuster
Getting paid tomorrow, I think I'll get BF4 with Premium since it's currently 60% off.
Awwww yissss
Good idea, since buying it I had 1 day where I hated myself for buying it but since then It's been awesome.
Still trying to get the Phantom Bow though.

If you need people to help get it, I wouldn't mind going through all the requirements. May take me quite some time to catch up depending on how far through you are though.

tl;dr, the dusting problem got worse because the server patch was implemented incorrectly, it will be fixed in the next server patch in a couple days.

As of this post.
Phantom Prospect:
177/200 Assault Rifle Kills.
77/200 Main Battle Tank Kills.
300/300 Meter Headshot.
Phantom Trainee:
105/200 Pistol Kills.
12/20 Jet Kills.
0/2 Shotgun Ribbons in 1 round. (Which sounds like bullshit really but I'm guessing I need to complete the other 2 first)
Phantom Initiate:
200/200 LMG Kills
50/50 Explosive Kills
10/25 Road Kills.
The Jet kills can suck my dick though, it's fucking annoying.

Don't those others only start counting AFTER you complete the previous phantom assignments?
Nice, finally a fix for the severe dusting in vehicle to vehicle combat. I have been avoiding driving in tanks, jets, rcbs, and helicopters since the summer patch.
Just bought BF4 with Premium. Now the long wait begins for all the damn DLC to download. :v:
EDIT:
5 hours later.
