Battlefield Franchise Megathread V1 - 'Hardline is still DLC' Edition - Games

I have battlefield 3 on Origin (not sure how or why, only noticed it when I was playing the battlefront beta), but I remembered playing it on the 360 with my brother and really enjoying it. Do people still play it? Should I pick up BF4 instead? Is vanilla BF4 dead and do I need the super deluxe version with all the DLC? EDIT: Apparently China Rising (Deluxe edition) isn't very good and naval strike is the best DLC, I remember playing a map on the 360 that was based partially on a half sunken aircraft carrier and it was the dogs bollocks, great fun. Is that map part of the Naval Strike/Premium edition? If I don't have to spend an extra £15 to play good maps and all that, I'd like not to.

The sad thing is, only vanilla maps are most played and the new jungle map

Some people still play BF3 but by far BF4 is much more played. Vanilla is really populated. You should probably still buy premium on sale if you want so you get access to all the weapons.

If I buy the standard version, can I upgrade to Premium at a reduced price? And how often does it go on sale?

I personally love TDM if it's with a good map for TDM. Sometimes I just feel like killing things without any other real objective.

And how often does it go on sale?[/QUOTE] It's overall less expensive if you want to buy the Premium Version on sale (Base Game + Premium) but it's not a bad approach to just buy the base game first, see if you like it and then buy Premium. Unfortunately they don't do a discount for Premium if you own the base game but it often goes on sale like 2-3 times a year.

I thought I'd downloaded the game, but in reality none of the DLC was downloaded so now I'm sat at my battlelog watching each DLC tick by painfully slowly before I can play. Booo.

Holy fuck this game is fun. I'm mainly playing Engineer and Support and having an absolute blast. Not having much look shooting down air units (starting launcher seems really shit) and no recons are using the dart gun so I can't lock on. Ah well, on my way to a stinger.

Javelin squad is best squad

The F2000 must be the hardest gun to get for me. Actively trying not to get kills and hoping someone else get him is fucking hard.

In all seriousness, Its great fun being in a squad like this. For example, a week or so ago on Paracel storm, my squad got into 2 RHIBS, all on TS and we were the moving javelin squad. Next match we spend most of the time on the land. We all have identical loadouts, too, ehe. All with AS VAL, G18 silenced and field upgrade. Is there any reason not to use a classes 'official' weapons? I'm running about with shotguns and an..AK-15 or something on my Engineer and having a whale of a time, is this inefficient or something?

PDWs are only really for close-mid range encounters anyways.

I'm looking to see if it's actually possible to rent a server anywhere on the American east coast that'll be 120hz for 32 players but for the life of me I can't find any. Even if it's just for one month I'd like to get a taste of that sweet stuff, not to mention setting my own map/gamemode rotation.

It's like 285 bucks a month. Ain't no one want to pay that. Only thing I see becoming the norm are 60hz 48 man conquest small. All the big and popular conquest servers are likely going to stay 40hz (which is sad). Hopefully some of the donated ones (ego and others) go 60hz.

Shot down my first helicopter without a homing missile today, it spiralled out of control and crashed into the manufactory on Zacod, got me a triple kill and we captured the points and held out there for 8 minutes until the game ended. Hnnngh

Shooting down choppers with RPGs is the best feeling.

Tried out the Air Superiority mode, some guy called John Cleric was killing everyone with Heatseekers and then saying "No it was 25mm", but he got unbelievably made if you killed him with Heatseekers. Hehehe

One thing that would make BF a lot better is if helicopters didn't instantly explode the second they touched the ground. There are times where you helicopter brushes the ground lightly but still explodes. I got disabled and managed to bring the helicopter to a perfectly reasonable stop but the second it touched the ground it exploded. It wasn't even going fast. Instantly exploding helicopters really piss me off. There would be some much cooler moments if you were actually able to land them and have a few seconds to get away before they explode.
