Rhythm Game Megathread v1 - Don't stop moving to the funky funky beat

just play with sudden death mod in standard mode if you care that much about combo
I only restart when I break a combo if I know I can full combo a song
sudden death (or perfect, if you're fucking nuts) works too
i also tried to get vib-ribbon to work with custom CDs but couldn't figure out how to create an iso for virtual mounting that's compatible with the game and i'm not wasting multiple CDs just to play vib-ribbon with custom music
one of these days i'll sit down and figure it out tho

Fullscreen @ 1080p + Full Tablet Area (6.0 x 3.7in) here.

I don't play full 1080 because 800x600/720p backgrounds look awful scaled up to 1080p, so I stay at 1024x768
and I'm not some kinda bitch who fades backgrounds either
I play full-screen with mouse (1920x1080), also just bought a tablet (Intuos Small) and using full area on that but I'm completely terrible with it right now.

Question- do you need to use the original background for a song to be valid for high scores? If not, I'd just make my own replacements for my most-played.
I don't know.

no
people used to just delete the backgrounds because they were scrubs back before dimming was a thing that existed

No.
People used to not delete backgrounds because they were scrubs before dimming was a thing that existed. Every sane person deleted bgs. You can change the bg image too if you like afaik.
If you delete the background, does it have some sort of a default background that it uses or it's just pure black that background dimming does?

Just black, with a message in white at the start what says "Hey scrub, don't delete backgrounds! Use dim you pleb"
400dpi @ 800x600 rep

i played on tablet for a year then quit. mouse is much more fun tbh
Genius 560 have no tablet area chose. I playing in full tablet area, but in 1200x800 resolution.
The only backgrounds that are acceptable to delete are the shitty weebbait softcore porn ones
The only backgrounds that are acceptable to delete are the shitty weebbait softcore porn ones
all of them then
maybe if you only play shit maps :)
(unfortunately many good maps are made by weeaboos who attach such pictures, which are typically totally unrelated. especially common with western music, which is fucking annoying)
singletapping with mouse is pretty fun tbh
and fuck spaced streams they keep wrecking me :((

i also reached 400-450rpm on spinner consistently earlier so that's cool too

Mouse player here o/
I've been playing 1680x1050 full-screen since the beginning, but I kinda always lose my grip when using 800DPI so I had plans for going window-mode like almost everyone else too. Should I use a wide-screen or a standard resolution for an easier change? Or should I maybe simply try a higher DPI like 1000?
I have no idea how I managed this

a lot of people play something like 1024x768 @ 800dpi, which essentially means move the mouse 2cm to move almost the entire playfield
if you're at 1680x1050, you probably want something like 1100-1200 DPI if you want to keep it about the same amount of distance traveled per inch moved.
I typically play at 1280x720 windowed @ 2500 dpi, which is something like 0.8cm moved for the full playing field
keep in mind that changing the DPI in small increments will really fuck you up badly (i tried changing to 2400 and kept overshooting things constantly), so properly calculate how much to scale the DPI per the resolution if you're going to upscale/downscale
Cytus is fucking awesome
But the songs start off really good and get less good the further along you go.
Bit of a shame really, the later levels are actually a lot more fun but I don't enjoy the music as much.
i feel like this was a good addition to make to my skin

Has anyone else ever noticed themselves doing uncharacteristically better when not focusing on the game itself?
Like, sometimes I do better on maps I usually struggle with when I actively think about something else while playing. Weird.

I find that one of the ways I play best is to kind of "zone out" while playing, and not really focus too much, otherwise, well.

tell me about it, once I stop thinking the only things that ever disturb me are streams, which is when I start thinking and everything starts going to shit.

Pretty much, but if I so much as a fleeting thought about my combo the game can telepathically sense my fear and ruins everything within 1-5 seconds.
