Rhythm Game Megathread v1 - Don't stop moving to the funky funky beat
Why would you bother spending that much time making sure you only have songs you will use? Unless you have EXTREMELY limited hard drive space, and I mean extremely, then there is no reason imo.
It's not a space issue at all, it hardly made a dent in my hard drive. I don't usually do that, either, for Phase Shift and Stepmania I've got plenty of songs I just leave laying around to collect dust. Thing is, with those games I still ended up with a good ratio of songs I liked, meanwhile with osu! I had 4,000+ songs I didn't really want making the few songs I did want to play really hard to pick out in the song wheel. Nothing against most of those songs, a lot of them were alright, it's just I don't know the songs and in the case of the Japanese ones, they really start blending together after a while since I can't understand any of them.
When you've got multiple stacked sliders like that it's way easier to alternate. Leaves less chance of releasing too early since you can basically hold down both buttons at once.
Did this earlier. Rank #16,XXX here I come!

Thats what I want to be doing but it's just so confusing for my fingers. I barely manage to alternate on normal songs. Are there any Hard songs you recommend that I can practise this on? Or just tips on it in general...

Ah yeah, it does get pretty cluttered looking for songs in osu.
Single tapping is just better at a high level, the only alter I know of recently who is top tier is elysion and she can singletap like a god too. someone who can singletap can alt, someone who can alt can not singletap. There's no reason to learn alting first.
Single tapping stacked sliders is pretty hard though
You learn it in time + you can spam them like cookiezi used to.
I'm sorry if I seem dumb but I always wanted to play Osu!, at first I thought it'd be cool to play Osu!Mania but someone explained to me here that it's an abandoned gamemode etc, so I'll give Osu! a shot. What do I need to know about it? From what I read, it's got country ladders? Also are there any "famous" beatmaps that I should be playing first? Because I know shit all about j-music in general.
[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
Everyone plays it with a mouse? Should I start playing normal etc, stupid newcomer questions I know, when I get home from school I'll look into it too.
[editline]11th March 2014[/editline]
Shit the osu! megathread already answered most of my questions, still accepting hints and tips though!

I never said I think you should alternate from the start, its just how I did it because it seemed like I was meant to, because there were two keys and not just one to press.
I didn't even know people singletapped until I got to hards and insanes because I never played MP until then. :v:
It seems like I can easily outplay some of my higher rank friends on very high bpm maps though, because they aren't used to alternating jumps while I am.

peppy will be fixing up the mania gamemode.
currently he's working on improving the skinning support because it's a broken buggy piece of shit that woc never accepted any suggestions for.
it might even improve now that woc is gone.
osu gamemode is basically elite beat agents (for the DS) on the PC. you click circles, hold sliders, spin spinners.
yes country rankings
famous beatmaps? don't play this one. this one is broken as fuck. just avoid most maps made before 2011
it's not all japanese music, it's just that the only people determined enough to get their shit through the ranking process are weebs
if you're going to download "official" beatmap packs, work your way from the most recent downwards. All of the old ones are shit maps from before 2011
most people play with tablet. a fair amount play with mouse though. it's probably 50/50 tbh. Use Z/X to click instead of your mouse/pen buttons. You can rebind them in the input options.

going on this note, the weebs are very tenacious
there's a large amount of songs that have literally 0 connection to anime, manga, or japanese games (many nightcore remixes, at least one song by the string quartet "bond", at least one instrumental by Haru, etc) and yet have anime or anime-styled backgrounds, because weeaboos
and then on some of the more mainstream anime songs (or just anime songs that a particularly tenacious weeaboo really fucking likes), they have the most ridiculous fanwank storyboards ever
welcome to osu!
That's awesome! Thanks a lot, will be playing asap when I get home.

Nightcore is pretty much known to have anime backgrounds though right? The Nightcore I have heard on YouTube has mainly had anime backgrounds, I'd be hard done by to find some that don't have anime backgrounds really.
Though I do agree that weaboos are great (thats what we were talking about right?).
Some official nightcore remixes (you know, made by the actual nightcore groups, and not joe random with some tempo speedup and bass increase) did have "official" anime-styled images behind them but in general it seems that nightcore is most enjoyed by (and nowadays, pretty much "made" by), shocker, weeaboos
lord knows why
Well it kinda resembles the high-pitched form of Japanese music so people enjoying one usually enjoys the other
[editline]12th March 2014[/editline]
Except it's more party-esce
besides giving me arthritis at a young age, the worst thing osu! has done to me is make me unironically enjoy nightcore
osu made me like touhou eurobeat

best song
i was sad this song wasn't mapped yet
but i've started mapping it so it's okay
[editline]hi[/editline]
osu doesn't have enough touhou songs, right??

my only complaint with touhou songs is that they're normally 3:30+, and i just fall apart after 2 minutes
theyre usually pretty high quality maps so its not really a valid complaint, tho
Hahahah this game is so much fun! I guess that'd be expected since I loved elite beat agents but oh God, I'm laughing hysterically whenever I get things right.

I'm so addicted to this song, I'll beat it one day too, I can't even get 10 seconds into it without failing but ONE DAY!
I just played demo of Project Diva F on my Vita and I like it so far, but holy shit there is something with latency. Music is way ahead of gameplay elements.

Fucking fine when i come back ill powerlevel non stop to your level with just alternating
if it turns out to not be possible ill be the first to admit it
[editline]12th March 2014[/editline]
Though before that I'd like to ask what you mean by singletapping, cause I can p. much do that KURWA MAC thing fine enough which is like 268 bpm 1/2?
I have no control or agility when it comes to singletapping but i got to that speed by just alternating and trying singletapping from time to time
Anyone wanna test the new Fukkireta difficulty? Could still use some input (EcksDee already doing some but he is busy n shit) before I upload an early version alongside re-resurrecting the map.
(for osu! obv)

Maybe I just need to get used to it.
I spent a good part of my day trying to set up my wii guitar hero controller with my laptop to play Phase Shift.
Turns out my laptop doesn't have bluetooth built in. Who knew 'ey? ;____; (it has the damn light for it built in though, curse you thinkpad)

1key everything that isn't streams I guess. I've never seen any alternating player do what I do good apart from elysion and she singletaps faster than me. It's great to alt when you already have the speed but I'd rather keep pushing my speed forever really.

What about the notes right before and right after the draggy ones? (my technical terms are glorious). I feel like they HAVE to be alternated, at least when there are a lot of them, but I still lose my rhythm completely and fuck up on them all the time.
woah wtf jesus christ i played mania for an hour and now everything in my room is all warping n shit like it's inflating damn son this trippy
[editline]13th March 2014[/editline]
oh it stopped, but wow that was weird.

that happened when i first learned how to play guitar hero with 4x hyper speed on expert.
i'm not sure if there's a certain threshold of too many notes falling too quickly but your eyes get used to watching shit fly by after a while
you should really learn to take a break every once in a while to readjust your eyes

breaks are for the weak
in other news, after playing osu for 5 hours straight yesterday I managed to fc one of the maps that's been haunting me every since i downloaded it like a year ago

it may be one of the easier grumd maps but it means a lot to me ok
I decided to just play a song to get my Estonia ranking on osu!mania

I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS STATE OF AFFAIRS
