This game just popped back into my head and I want to talk about it with some people. Uh, in terms of news, no game this year but it's scheduled to be released in the next 4 or so.

Thats actually a good thing, knowing CDPR.

By the time this comes out it'll actually be 2077.

I don't like the comment about multiplayer being "necessary or very recommended for long-term success". Not that I mind multiplayer but it just comes across as weird coming from those who utterly smashed the myth that AAA needs an online component to succeed.
If your game has enough content and that content is good, you'll be able to play it for ages.
Also moddability helps alot, I've got like, combined number of hours, about 3,000+ across Fallout and Skyrim, not as many as some people, but the points stands.

That's how Multiplayer was viewed back in the days, it was looked as something that extends the game's life rather than be the main point of the game.
i dont think the multiplayer will be actual multiplayer as we usually know it. my theory is that it'll involve the game loading the player-character of other players into your game as NPC's. say youre in a shady ally fixing for the latest hardware in cybernetic implants. the NPC arrives and its all business as usual, but to his side is Cockburner67 with an SMG and Freebird wearing her latest neon accessories. you catch my drift. even going to a nightclub might have you mingling with both CDPR NPC's as well as the characters of other players. i think its a neat idea, but it might be difficult to pull off. it'd require a constant online connection with new NPC designs coming in each time the player say, starts the game or saves at their home. i dont know, infact i doubt anyone but CDPR knows.
I feel like the game is basically going to be an mmo, but with less emphasis on grinding.

And what on earth made you think that?
It will be a singleplayer RPG but multiplayer elements might be contextual and completely optional, sorta like Dark Souls does it with its interactions.
