Get war declared on me by a faction about the same size as me. I'm sitting here with 500power fleet thinking pfft, 2 destroyers and corvettes, what bullshit you got? Bring it on. You want me to Cede my planets? Fat chance fuck face Then this shit warps in [img_thumb]http://i.imgur.com/HqMoFnH.jpg[/img_thumb] Okay you can have it bye
I tried going to war with one of my neighbors in my first game because why the fuck not. I showed up at one of his worlds with an 800 power fleet when he only had resource bases there. Before I even opened fire on the mining base, a fleet of 2k+ showed up, taking issue with the fact that I wanted to 'redecorate' his system. Safe to say I lost that whole fleet which comprised of 70% of my available military at the time. Only knocked about 300 power off that fleet before my ships were destroyed.
The AI always seems to know where your fleet is stationed and where you're most vulnerable. Also, it feels a bit like cheating but playing the game with a mod that disables the influence upkeep from frontier outposts makes me wonder why they even have the upkeep on them in the first place. You're still very limited by lack of resources in the early game so it's not like you can just spam them like crazy. It just makes it less of a pain to recruit new leaders when they inevitably croak, and considering you get a -20% research speed if you don't have a scientist assigned to a slot not having one is almost not a realistic option.

really? my fleet was easily the largest within like, thirty years. i renamed it the royal navy because i basically control space. i can solo most federations. [editline]11th May 2016[/editline] i just closed the game for the first time
So I encountered this lovely fellow Negotiations are not going to go well with all this giggling
there are no games where you cannot lose stab even now, in hearthstone or street fighter or arma i am always afraid i will randomly lose stab these wounds will not heal no really tho it's neat its in there in some way
The event can be positive depending on your traits. I got a variant that gave me some science.
I got +15 happiness from the comet playing as xenophile individualists.
Anybody encounter the unbidden yet? Apparently they are the "Chaos" of stellaris.
Yep. I have a top 5 navy (vs several federations) totaling maybe 15k firepower with the potential to expand. The Unbidden shit out a dozen 15k stacks within the first year and carve up a few distant feds. So if you can contain them early you're good. There is a big problem though, and that is that the AI refuses to play offensively against the Unbidden. Sure they'll defend their colonies but they won't unite against the threat, they won't actively pursue Unbidden fleets etc. It's frustrating since the Unbidden can blob up massively because the AI refuses to do anything about it. I assume it'll be patched.
I just wish we had actual chaos, corrupting your planets and fleets An eye of terror would be nice as well

I like how some events have different flavor text depending on your Ethos. Materialists really don't care about comets for example.
Battletech mod when?
This fuckin' game. My 37 ships of 1230 or so power go up against 3 groups of these crystalized enemies of 370-420 power each group at the same time. I win the battle. My admiral of my fleet gains a trait. "Substance Abuse: -20 year life span" And immediately dies
I kind of wish Technology kept exponentially getting more ridiculous as time went on, but instead it has some caps. It's a shame, because there's no caps for my ever-expanding and technologically inept Commonwealth (Now Empire) of Man that is using ships over 100 years old.

I'm really digging Stellaris. Started playing it after work with my cousin yesterday, and before I knew it it was 01:30. It's defintely easier to get into than CK2 was when I first played it. I'm playing a race of giant sentient slaver bugs, something similar to the Zerg/Tyranids. Someone's bound to be working on a Warhammer 40K mod, it would be so good.
This game has been great so far. Got declared war on by my fanatical purger neighbour, originally I thought I was screwed because I had not been building up my fleet at all and only just started making more ships once I realised how close a war was to starting. Their fleet jumps in and has almost twice as many ships as mine, fortunately, my ships were more powerful and with the aid of rushing out reinforcements I was able to cripple both our fleets causing them to retreat, but not before they destroyed one of my stations, I was not too happy about this. Turns out, they had obviously been building their military over the course of the game, which lead to them believing they were much more powerful than me, unfortunately for them, I had more than 3 times the mineral production than they did, and neither of us had a capable fleet. I manage to build up my fleet to max size at a power of around 1400, once the fleet arrives in their homeworld, I see that in the same amount of time they were just under 400 power. Wiping out an opponent that has plagued you for the entire game so far has never felt so good.
Just formed Russia for the first time in EU4 My last two kings and my heir are all 5 admins, shithouse diplo, and average/above average mil I'm sensing a pattern
I was really struggling with not getting fucked up in early wars in Stellaris. https://www.reddit.com/r/paradoxplaza/comments/4itmut/ive_been_seeing_a_bunch_of_posts_that_have/ This has really helped me understand where I was going wrong and I'd encourage everyone to give it a read.

I was looking forward to NOT having to use the ship designer, it's too fucking tedious. Hopefully they just make the automatic generation better.

Plasma weapons are better than Lasers right?

However I had more in mind than just portraits and a few new races, I'm waiting for a complete overhaul with new events, music, units, backgrounds, upgrades, and mechanics. That's a ton of work, but they will get there. AGOT mod for CK2 only reached v1 like a few months ago.
I'm looking forward to a Star Trek mod. It's probably not even going to be that much work considering all the freely available stuff compared to an original mod. UI changes to look like Bridge Commander, ship models obviously, sound effects, Icons from STO. The hardest part would probably be effect visuals and actually re-naming everything With the emphasis on exploring and the science quest chains, it'll be a really good fit
Ripping models from STO is a pain in the ass, best bet would be to rip them from other games or mods. Also if you come across an event for a Tomb World that mentions the civilization being torn apart over arguments of the definitions of "Collectivism" and "Individualism". That is a reference to multi page argument in the Stellaris thread over on something awful about the same thing.
I wonder if Vic 3 will have a 'Great Liquor War' then if they're adding community stuff :v:
