Some new screens/previews of HOI4
[editline]23rd February 2015[/editline]
From the IGN Article
“The Soviet Union for example also has ambitions of expansions regardless of what the Germans do, as well as the Japanese. So there will be wars, but Germany, unless attacked by the Soviets, can keep itself out.”
Totally going to play a Neutral Germany and see what happens.
I don't understand why they can't use the historical Nazi Germany flag...
Anyway, i'm hoping that they will improve unit deployment and some of the tedious micro managing. Also, the performance. I'm playing Black Ice in HOI3 and my game just suddenly freezed up in 1945 January, about every 5 seconds, a few hours might pass at max speed.
I don't understand why they can't use the historical Nazi Germany flag...
If they used it, they wouldn't be able to sell it in Germany or Austria, if I recall.

Victoria style events oh how I missed thee
HOI3 had events like that.
Might have been added in an expansion pack, but there were events for the Fall of London, Washinton D.C, and San Francisco, probably more.

Because of laws in various countries, they would have to make separate versions for different regions.
You can easily mod it in yourself, heck it will probably be the first thing I do.

Time for a Red Alert.
Time for a Red Alert.
It'd be really cool if it had events like in OTL Germany.
If it's just "oh i declare war by now because im bored" then it's kind of disappointing tbh.
tbf, if HoI4 has a lot of branching events pre-Wartime that affect the war's outcome (And not just historical ones like Molotov-Ribbentrop or Americans cutting Japan's oil), I'll maybe poke the game a bit
One of the examples I saw was Japan focusing on the Soviet Union rather then China. Also AI Czechslovakia can refuse to cede land to Germany and just declare war
They said this HOI is less railroad-y and more sandbox like their other titles.
[editline]24th February 2015[/editline]
I bet the soviets can take Poland as an option of Germany doesn't.
If they could have a series of events that lead to Harry Turtledove's "War That Came Early" I'd maaaaaaybe get the game on sale.
The reason I was so averted to the game is that it seemed very locked in place compared to Darkest Hour

Quick Summary:
-El dorado features / some of them free
-Idea groups re-balanced
-adm tech 9 rewards forced march
-quite a few form-able nations, such as brazil, with brazilian ideas
-new national ideas
-10 new achievements
-fixed trade power peace cheese
-primitives can't build ships
-can't move explorers into open sea provinces without having quest for new world (portugal's explorers can only go to africa)
all they have to do is cut and paste the events in for hoi4 from the last game
all they have to do is cut and paste the events in for hoi4 from the last game
they kinda did that with eu3 and eu4 so it would not surprise me here if they did it too
would be nice of them to expand more on flavour

Sure why not?
I always had this idea in mind, after playing Jagged Alliance 2, where spending the days training rewarded your mercenaries with better overall abilities.
So the concept was to, use a "training" slider/input that, the more you spend time/resources into it, the better your units would come out.
Imagine that concept put into CIV IV.
Instead of rewarding your units with experience thanks to wonders, that experience would come from said training slider granting your units those experience levels and all those possible upgrades that came with them.
And you could combine all possible kinds of stuff with this mechanic. A national policy of conscription/mass forces could churn out untrained troops at a faster rate than without it or a policy of having a cadre of trained officers could grant middle funded troops with a level similar to those of highly funded.
I wonder if I can conquer Cuba as Canada in HOI4 without pissing anyone off.
Canadians need vacations too.
I really can't wait for the expansions we'll see for Hearts of Iron 4.
I'm imagining a cold war expansion, dynamic bloc creation, government changes ala Vicky 2, a World War 1 expansion, a World War 3 expansion.
The great thing about Paradoxes DLC policy is that I am always excited for new stuff. So many games left me going "I love it, but it's a shame that this is it. There could have been more."
HOI has always been about the War, I can't see the expansions doing anything to change that
Maybe a timeline extension to 1933. An WW3 scenario maybe, but only immediately after WW2
Cold War would require an all new tech tree and stuff I can't see happening with just an expansion pack. Cold War needs to be its own game
The expansions will most likely be centered around war, or events before it
I disagree. CK1 was just about Christians and CK2 now has Pagans, Muslims and India.
Paradox hardly locks itself in anymore, and the Cold War seems to be a very good place to go for expansions.

That's Operation Unthinkable in Hearts of Iron 3, though, isn't it?
Well yeah, but wasn't that just a specific scenario, not a full bookmark?
Well yeah, but wasn't that just a specific scenario, not a full bookmark?
Didn't someone try to make that a bookmark originally? I mean, if you jump back from the scenario back to the 1936/whatever start dates, the whole map is divvied up ala 1946. FRG, DDR, Yugoslavia and Poland have different borders
I'm surprised no-one did a mod of that. Or maybe they did and I've never seen it.
Jesus Christ, my saved games folder was 30GB big!
