I wasn't directing that towards that video specifically
In that instance he was, because doing that screwed him over.
Maybe idiot was a little harsh. I tried watching him play, but it seems like he never did the tutorial, he was ignoring tool tips and asking chat what he was doing wrong when it did right in the tool tip. I haven't even played the game I knew he was screwing up
He must not have played it very much before the embargo lifted.
Quill is the better player right now

If you want some minor nation gameplay, DDRJake played El Salvador yesterday

Wow, a lot of the Central and South American leaders use the same image, sometimes with different suits.
I never noticed.
Then again, I don't think I've see that photo before.
Haha, that's fucking golden.
I love it.
I missed Victoria II's alt-history loading screens.

Also happened in Bridger's Soviet game, exact same area. I hope the event is somewhat dynamic and can take place in other areas of the SU. If it's just a static civil war that remains relatively the same no matter how many instances you witness, that's kinda boring.

[QUOTE=Lone Wolf807;50447224]The dev's aren't the best players in Arumba's view. Arumba isn't wrong, and he isn't right either. Why? Because its his opinion, why are you calling him an idiot for that?[/QUOTE]
Opinions can be right or wrong though? It's not like being the best player is a purely subjective matter.

How do you measure skill in a singleplayer game, especially a GSG? There's no MMR or standardized tournament system. Whoever exploits the bugs the hardest? Whoever cheeses the hardest? Am I good for abusing IC law switches? To shave 30 days off my production queue's by changing my training laws and then switching them back on to normal exp but lower build times?

"We should build these..."
5%+ IC Production Efficency
:v:
Hoi4 seems a bit over simplified I hope it's easy to mod. The battle plans look really polished though I never worked out how to use the automation in 3

Well just take the situation in Arumba's video as an example. If someone advises against training troops but it turns out that it's a viable strategy then they're not as good at the game as someone who knows of said strategy.
I'm not saying you can always pinpoint someone's skill in relation to other players but there are definitely varying degrees of being good at the game.
Is HoI4 for me?
I have over 1k hours in CK2, i like the RP aspect of it with characters and dynasties which obviously isnt in this game, but the fighting aspect of this game seems more interesting than CK2's.
I also liked stellaris, although not as much as ck2. I tried the demo for EU4 but didnt get into it that much.
HoI4 seems like an interesting game, but is it similar enough to CK2 or Stellaris to enjoy it? Or does it have something else that really makes it fun/stand out?
i am leaning towards buying it, but i just want to hear you guys' opinion about this! :downs:
i think the non historical ai will appeal to ck2 players, i prefere hoi3 to ck even though microing the combat is almost impossible once your armies get large enough and the automation does some weird things (i was just playing and my eastern front army wanted 30+ submarines to attack into russia and you cant tell it no if you want to keep feeding it units)
Yeah, I don't think anyone uses automation in HOI3.
HOI4 the AI doesn't ask for troops, it's up to you to decide what you need, the AI just users what you give it
[editline]5th June 2016[/editline]
Dakario you should watch the official streams or Quill18's vids, they show the game off.
HOI is more complicated combat wise, you can't just send stacks of troops at the enemy. You need to build factories to make supplies for your troops to use. You also need them to make tanks.

Over simplified how? Other the OOB it doesn't seem that much simplistic compared to HOI3. They've made it easier to get into by automating some things, like transports.
Modding in HOI4 is a lot better then the previous games. Almost everything is open to editing, even the AI.

Why

Maybe quill just hasn't shown it but I haven't seen any diplomacy espionage trade the resource management and research also looks highly simplified. It looks like they focused on the combat, I'm not saying it looks bad just a lot different than 3

Three was really the only one so far to have tech be anything other than just researching the next level of unit or doctrine so it wouldn't surprise me if they simplified it again.
I know the OOB can be a bit of a nightmare in 3 but I was really surprised they just removed it completely, even if your not totally anal about it it's very useful
HOI4 is closer to HOI2 in how researching works. You got slots, you fill those slots.
There are no tech teams, but you do have production teams, they effect your vehicles stats.
I feel like an idiot, the localization files in Paradox games are spread sheets. I've been editing them in notepad++ this whole time.

Keep editing them in notepad++. It's probably easier to do than with Excel/Calc.

Yeah, someone told me on reddit that excel forces the file to save the breaks as commas instead of semi-colons
[editline]5th June 2016[/editline]
I don't even know.

You can tell excel to count semicolons as breaks iirc, but I haven't used excel for years because LibreOffice master race so iunno.

I use Libre as well
So i watched some Arumba and Quill18 videos of HoI4. One of my biggest questions that i didnt see answered is: do you need a really good reason to start a war with someone? For example, can i realistically as Norway start a war with sweden and then take over scandinavia?

You need to justify a war goal. I believe your government type determines how fast.
I've seen Marbozir making justifications as Poland in his videos. However, I'm not entirely sure if it's because he managed to make his country a socialist republic.
The HOI4 Wiki Diplomacy has some info

A few months ago fascist countries didn't need a CB/War Goal to declare war, but they changed that for balance reasons.
