Yeah, but it's a percentage of your total population, which is influenced by a monthly gain in total population. I'm wondering if more land = more population growth or if something else effects it.
You get a very small percentage of the manpower from conquered provinces, something like 2%.
It's an interesting game, but we definitely need some total-overhaul mods.

Maybe it's just me but it's generally not a good sign when a game has been out less than a day and it already needs total overhaul mods, though I know people will defend it anyways.
Why is that?
i think its just standard paradox, you always need a few patches. HOI 3 was unplayable until they released the dlc
i think its stupid a army cant move at all when cut off, they should have some break out ability. the power of revolting forces is also extremely strong especially as you dont get much of a break to build mp units
Why is that?
It should generally take at least some time before enough flaws become apparent enough that people think a total overhaul is necessary. If it's been less than a day and people are already saying it needs one, there must be some really fucking glaring flaws.
I apologise for not clarifying, I meant what are the issues
The AI is retarded, the tech system is dumbed down you can get pretty much everything you need, air force now only is a multiplier. You can't actually damage enemy troops if you're not in fucking combat (bye bye interdiction). I maxed the submarine tech tree in '41 and the Royal Navy can't even find my '36 subs so I'm just blowing up their convoys left and right. Event's are boring, there doesn't seem to be any depth in the world. In HoI3 if you weren't a major (and even if you were depending on the nation) you had to choose. Jack of all trades or specialized in a certain field. I don't see that here. There's lots of other stuff I can't think of right now, but I'd avoid this game. It will need mods...
I have played HOI3 before any DLC and think it's better that this. It certainly had more depth.
In my opinion there's still a long way to go in terms of AI, played for some hours and I feel a bit dissapointed. Won the SCW as Republican Spain in less than a year, since the nationalists were constantly shifting their forces along the front using strategic redeployement, so even my International Brigades were able to kick their asses thanks to their almost perpetual state of disarray (That included german and lol, japanese divisions, but no italians in sight).
Then WW2 happens, and while I happily geared up my industry, around mid 1940, the UK invaded and captured the northern half of Italy including Rome, has something like 30 odd italian divisions encircled in a couple of provinces near the frontier with France, and is already trying to push through southern Germany.
Checked the losses, so far Italy has lost more than 400k men, Germany 300k (almost 250k were caused by the Poles, if my memory serves me right), while the allies have lost less than 500k, of which less than 300k were anglo-french forces, and the rest are split throughout the coalition, which amusingly includes venezuelan divisions fighting in Belgium. That's another thing, allies were able to hold the borders of the low countries, so that front is a big stalemate right now, which means that Germany is fucked in the long run, since they can't keep up with that meat grinder for much longer while holding the english in the south. It seems like all those early-war buffs Germany had (or at least appeared to have) in previous games are gone now.

I agree 100%
I found the tech tree to be boring. In HOI3 you could choose if you wanted to upgrade say, the engine of a plane, submarine or whatever, which would increase it's range, or upgrade it's guns, bombs etc... Here, there is none of it, only designs and some sub designs.
The nation ideas are good but since they all seem to take 70 days to get, it's pretty easy to get them all. They also don't seem to give much bonuses, at least the non diplomatical ones. They just give bonus to tech research or make some leader available. By the end of 1938 i had like most of the important ideas completed as Germany.
Coups and alike are good but they seem to be way, way too easy to do.
I also like how production and such works, though it seems like you instantly get all the resources from a province without the need to build any buildings there, except for oil and rubber. I couldn't seem to figure out how to upgrade the Synthetic refineries unless they upgrade automatically when you research the tech to the latest building which again is dumb.
Also is it just me or do the planes instantly redeploy between bases? If so, that's pretty dumb as well.
The game already seemed way way too easy to me when the devs played it. From what i could see of people playing, you can pretty much conquer half the world (or at least the majority of Europe) as a minor by 1940.
The UI is what's killing the game for me. I hate how unintuitive it is to assign air wings to certain air zones. I always need to click like four times more than I ought to because I get confused, and that's really not good in my MP campaign as Iran.
Haven't touched 4 yet so I can't comment on the tech in it but having played 2, DH, and 3 I can't say I have a preference for the tech system in any of them. The version from 2 and DH was simple but I felt like individual techs had a bigger impact, whereas the system in 3 was nice in that it let you be very specialized and it was rather nice when it came to naval ships since IIRC you could retrofit ships with newer guns and shit whereas 2 and DH you had to outright build new ships to improve them other than addons.
Also, these complaints about AI are amusing me considering Pdox had that dev diary where they claimed to have "fixed" the ai and bragged about how dynamic it was.
I've only played HOI3, and I was completely overwhelmed by it, CK2 was fairly easy to figure out except for getting troops to prevent an elective monarchy. I was able to get ahold of EUIV very easy though. Where would HOI4 lie within there? Is multiplayer fun?
For anyone experienced with modding, how do I remove the puppet tag from a country at game start so it starts independent? I'm trying to do it with the Philippines and removing the "puppet=PHI" does nothing
I absolutely prefer the HOI3 system, my only gripe was you couldn't make up names for designs of ships, it would have been easier to organise my "prime" fleet based on most recent ships if they weren't called "Destroyer III+" and "Aircraft Carrier IV+".
The small flags in HOI4 seem to be custom made, not just re-sized. They're a lot sharper, they're not the same aspect ratio, and have some sort of embossing/shading effect
that explains why they're 1 pixel bigger then the aspect ratio
You can tell some nations were not meant to become neutral.
Neutral USA has the Monarchist flag from V2, but is called 'Confederate States'

There is a console command to force a civil war, good way to test your flags
'civilwar ideology TAG'
Ideologies can be found in 'Hearts of Iron IV\common\ideologies'

How do I make a large fleet escort an army convoy over seas? Thankfully, the world is still relatively at peace, so I wasn't too worried sending my main army overseas. I'm pretty sure though once I'm at war with someone, if my fleet doesn't have an escort, they'll get instantly destroyed if attacked on the seas.
So basically, how do I force my large main fleet to escort an army convoy?
What should I do as germoney?

Invade everyone?

stay out of russia
What should I do as germoney?
stay in russia
Having just finished WW2 as Germany(First play through, didn't touch tutorial), can say it's piss easy. Poland, France and England down by '39(England didn't have anyone on the island) Invaded Russia in mid '41 and finished them off by late '42. Pissed around with a navy for a couple years then invaded U.S. in '44 and finished em by late '45. At this point my economy was huge. 1000 IC between civ/mil factories, actually had way too much equipment and only lost something close to 1.5/2 mill troops. I need to try the hard difficulty next time.
I think World Superpower factions are easy mode. I'm playing as the UK and it's just ridiculously simple to steam roll everyone.
My next playthrough is going to be a smaller country for sure.
-snip, didn't refresh for hours-
why does it seem some people are in this thread to exclusively talk about how much they hate pdox games.
I caused a Civil War in the UK as Germany, and it caused the war to end.. except Democratic UK is at peace with me and the Fascist Faction I propped up is at war with me allied with British Raj???
[editline]7th June 2016[/editline]
Oh, now Fascist Britain surrendered to Democratic Britain, and is now at war with the British Raj, who has joined the Comintern

"Hearts of Iron 4 has 483 unique minister portraits, compared to Darkest Hour's 17,524, and Hearts of Iron 3's 17,698"
Mind you, HOI4 also has less ministers the those two games.

there really isnt anyone who only comes here to shit talk paradox games.
atleast its better than reddit/pdox forums where any criticism about pdox is met with pitchforks
Because it's easy. Also its pretty easy to add new ideologies and the game is sort of okay with it..

GUI issues as they don't expect that many.
They even have descriptions for them in the localization files.
Some of them are used, Falangism is applied on Poland, Stalinism is used on the Soviet Union.
