It doesn't really use it outside of events probably as you can't have party, country or flags with those, it just grabs the main.
So really we need an overhaul of the whole system. It is weird, it feels like they started working on making Canada more unique, but then just stopped half way through. They have a Semi-Unique Naval Tech tree, but the Tank and Plane tree is generic. They have a couple of the same manufactures as the UK but they just use generic icons. They also have unique manufacturers as well. [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] Huh, British Raj can have Gandhi has a political advisor. Sadly he doesn't give a bonus to nuke development.
It doesn't really use it outside of events probably as you can't have party, country or flags with those, it just grabs the main.
do you mean for your own country? i thought i had seen an oligarchy, i cant remember who now one of the baltic states i think
The Polish DLC is a good template for a country flavour mod You can find the files in "Hearts of Iron IV\dlc\dlc002_polish_content_pack" [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] Adding shit to countries is easy as well. Localization is all handled by tags so TAG_modern_tank_equipment_1:0 "Name" replace TAG with the country and it will load only in that country. Same with GFX, and even the UI, it is lot easier then the previous games. [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] Oh boy, BlackICE https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/blackice-hoi-iv.942979/
There's no more battle reports so I guess they can circumvent this now :v: [t]http://i.imgur.com/e9d2868.jpg[/t]
I agree 100% I found the tech tree to be boring. In HOI3 you could choose if you wanted to upgrade say, the engine of a plane, submarine or whatever, which would increase it's range, or upgrade it's guns, bombs etc... Here, there is none of it, only designs and some sub designs.
Not true. In the equipment production section, you can create variants of vehicles and allow you to upgrade certain things like firepower or armour at the expense of things such as reliability and speed.
I want to make a Canadian flavour mod, but its hard, most of our equipment came from the UK or states. I don't think we had a dedicated small arms company or an 'artillery' making company.
Played as the UK and was a terrible first run, but was a great learning experience. Definitely picking a smaller country next time as it'll be much easier for me to focus on what I need to do, instead of being Britain and worrying about a shitload of units spread across the world.
I've only played V2 and EU4 but am thinking of getting HOI4 when I have the money, is it better than the third one so far?
stay out of russia
In my game Germany declared war on Poland and Russia at the same time, and beat Russia by mid 1940. :v:
I think World Superpower factions are easy mode. I'm playing as the UK and it's just ridiculously simple to steam roll everyone. My next playthrough is going to be a smaller country for sure.
Even as minors it's still pretty easy. As Iran, I managed to take over half of Asia and did my own operation sealion and took over England.
:v: [t]https://i.imgur.com/mRGB0za.png[/t] I can't use that image, it isn't mine I was just testing it out.

Ironman Ethiopia, one of the hardest (if not the hardest) nations to play as. The AI is inept, completely. I also want to add at one point the Germans came down to help, then suddenly as soon as Barbarossa started they moved all their divisions but five or six away and I just wiped them. I have no air support, naval or armor. This is all 2x3 infantry with AT (barely, because I can't produce enough) and Artillery [t]http://i.imgur.com/BdBBvzF.jpg[/t]
I've only played V2 and EU4 but am thinking of getting HOI4 when I have the money, is it better than the third one so far?
If you enjoy drawing lines on maps at your enemy's capitals yes.
If you enjoy drawing lines on maps at your enemy's capitals yes.
But if you're a communist you can't get capital, right?

I did a thing http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=699480260 It isn't very exciting, I just gave Canada Britain's Air and Tank trees, and icons for Vickers-Armstrong and De Havilland I also changed the second Jet Fighter to the Canadair CL-13 Sabre Taking suggestions on alternative tank and plane names as well as manufacturing companies.
I am actually really liking Hearts of Iron IV. My biggest gripes, though, are the lack of espionage and that the game isn't really meant for long-game for some reason. All in all, I'm still having fun and I'm not regretting the purchase, but I look to mods to fix what I dislike about the game thus far.
Paradox has the M3 Stuart as 1936 tank, but it was produced 1941 onwards
Blah, I was playing as Poland. Sorely needed resources and Czechoslovakia looked really juicy, especially since they were much weaker than I am. I tried justifying war goals on them, it didn't work. Tried again, nothing happened. I really wanted to wipe them out but then Germany swoops in and takes them somehow. And then they fucked me up. I thought I'd be able to stall them a little, but they pretty much busted straight through my frontlines.
As things stand, HoI IV is leagues and leagues above launch HoI III but it still feels a bit bare bones, like EU4 was at launch. Haven't regretted buying the game though, it's tons of fun still. MP is certainly the way to go however.
How do you add a thumbnail image in Steam Workshop? [editline]7th June 2016[/editline] So, reading the defines file. The game ends January 1949, but if there is 3 or more Major powers in a war, it will keep going. we are the gamma testers once again it seems [editline]8th June 2016[/editline]
why does it seem some people are in this thread to exclusively talk about how much they hate pdox games.
it's in our nature i think lol hate/love relationship with pdox
Considering Pdox has a near monopoly on GS games outside of a few niche releases I personally see it as a necessity to bitch incessantly at minor nitpicks. Places like their forums that are near cult worship don't help much.
I love how you join a server that says "all welcome" yet you get kicked 5 seconds after joining.
as germany i can never seem to build enough to control both east west and stop naval invasions, i think the early pIII is a bit of a trap you dont have the resources to build it at that point and if you went all out building military factorys you cant import for it either
why is HoI3 considered to be the most complex paradox game when it was the one i most easily understood and grasped while all the other titles were literally perplexing unintelligible puzzles to me
why is HoI3 considered to be the most complex paradox game when it was the one i most easily understood and grasped while all the other titles were literally perplexing unintelligible puzzles to me
Because it has significantly more micromanagement than other pdox titles. Though I don't see how anyone could find CKII and EUIV "perplexing, unintelligible puzzles" after more than an hour or two.
I think my hands off Europe turned out pretty well, and this is with Historical Focuses off [t]https://i.imgur.com/1CSR4DK.png[/t] Asia on the other hand [t]https://i.imgur.com/JmoPXCe.png[/t] I find it interesting that West Germany even exists, the Soviets controlled almost everything up to the french border. Also I had 3 Germanies for a couple days post Peace Conference, there was a German Republic using the GER tag, but West Germany absorbed them. [editline]8th June 2016[/editline] The game is so easily modifiable it is insane. Just slap 'TAG_' infront of something, whether it be UI/GFX or a Localization line and it will only load for that country.
Updated my Canada mini-mod http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=699480260 Added Artillery Variant name to the Ram Added Artillery and AA Varaint Names to the Grizzly I Added Victory Aircraft Limited (Heavy Aircraft Manufacturer) - No custom Icon, I can't even find a logo on google.
Too much micro going on in HOI4, I much prefer EuIV
