Paradox Interactive Thread: V3 'Check out my sick Germany blob'

I'll get screenshots soon, but last night, my girlfriend and I played as Yugoslavia and Poland respectively.
She went fascist, made her own faction, and was spooked by Germany so gave up Danzig. However, months after giving up Danzig, the USSR attacked with 1943 counter-attack numbers. Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia were curbstomped in a matter of about a month, but Poland was so far ahead on the tech tree (bullshit national focuses. She got mechanized before Germany did, same with Infantry AT), the Soviets didn't do very well.
Despite being pushed back to the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland held out and inflicted a whopping 2.08 million casualties on the Soviets, while the Uighurs, Tuvans and Mongols had roughly 750k in total (all of them on "scraping the barrel"). Poland did take about 1 million deaths, but that was because a couple large units became pocketed. Now, the Soviets constantly attack over the river, but immediately lose all organization and are thus repulsed.
I on the other hand, was sitting pretty with building forts and just generally laughing at the hilarity in Europe until Germany decided Slovenia was important enough to fuck me over. Enter the Axis getting involved, which included the fascist rebels in Romania and Bulgaria. At the last point, I was still holding out but was more or less forced to surround Belgrade. They bombed so many of my factories I couldn't even repair them.
Elsewhere in the world, Italy took Hong Kong, China beat the tits out of Japan, America suffered 1.5m casualties, and the D-Day landings happened roughly 5 times and failed.
- Combat computers were changed from Aggressive and Defensive into Swarm and Bombardment computers, to better describe their roles. Ships with Swarm computers will move in closely and engage, similar to old combat behaviour, and have bonuses to damage, speed and evasion. Ships with Bombardment computers will advance into weapons range and then slowly drift towards the enemy until they have range with all of their weapons, and have bonuses to accuracy, fire speed and weapons range.

Hello all, once again I am here to tell you about the horrors wonders of <Secret DLC>! Today the subject is our new narrative events. We have added two new chains of events, the first being the titular End of Days chain(s).
The concept behind the EoD events are that your people have become scared and uncertain and this has given rise to various doomsayers and general unrest. Possible results of this include:
The rise of a Prophet of Doom, who is convinced the world will end if he doesn’t overthrow your rule.
A general belief that the dead have returned to walk the earth and attack the living.
Panic based on a solar eclipse, which is surely the herald of the End Times.
These events are somewhat rare, and each possible doom has several ways to resolve it, for better or for worse, so we hope you will find them rather interesting should they appear.

The other chain we have added is The quest for Eternal Life. Much as I encouraged you to do in an earlier DD, characters in CK may find themselves contemplating their mortality, and as rulers of realms they have rather more resources available to them than you or I. The quest for Eternal Life is long, dangerous, and prone to failure, but when the possible reward is the ability to defy Death… well, you can see why people may undertake it anyway.

That’s all for now, next week I will go into detail about our new Maimed traits.

So I influenced the US so much they elected the Fascists. The US then created a faction with El Fuckin' Salvador and steadily wardecced its way up from Chile to the Panama Canal. Somehow the Allies got involved in that mess just after France turned Fascist and joined the Brotherhood. Cue France walking over my borders with half her army because lolhoi4. This caused the Allies to sort of walk over and beat France up.
Paris never fell this game tho.
Various parts of my UI keep breaking and it's annoying the shit out of me

I had ~30 divisions, about 15 of which were trying to close a pocket with about ~10-12 German divisions inside it on the czech border.

Were you playing without historical accuracy on, by chance? If I remember right, Italy is a fucking demon when not following each of it's historical failures in sequence.

No, friend and I were playing Czech and yugo with historical accuracy off because playing minor nations without historical accuracy is fun.
it was hell
Naval invasions don't scare me

Paradrops do, though
The only thing that scares me in Hoi4 is moments like France being invaded by Germany and Italy and then at random a few months later decides that the not in a faction and no troops at the border Republican Spain is a huge threat that needs to be countered by almost all troops France has.
This behavior has been an occurrence in several Pdox games. I've lost count of how many times I've seen the AI getting rolled HoI2 or V2 because Paradox's solution to everything seems to be "focus on countering the player" so the AI would mass on your border while they're getting steamrolled on the other side of the country.
Does anybody else lag lategame? Im playing as the reich and by the time im fighting the soviets and the allies my game goes down to 7fps, on lowest settings. My computer isnt even that bad.
Yeah mid to late game lag to shit

Mate, that's a waste of troops and it's not even useful, since a single division can be defeated by any sizeable invasion force (I know since it happened to me against Japan while playing as china).
You'd be better concentrating a bunch of divisions in each port, since the AI needs them to supply their troops so they will be targeting them anyways. If you are worried about naval invasions, build a single coastal + land fortress in every port you suspect to be a possible target, and with 2-3 divisions holding each of them you should be able to repel almost everything the AI throws at you.

Even better, if the AI decides to invade the troops it will send will attrition themselves to death, meaning you can mop them up for free if you want a few months.
Invasion AI is awful tbh, they need to use Marines and make beelines for ports and not just try to push in land.
Supply transport planes also need to be re-added.

The AI in general is too obsessed with having a neatly organized and balanced front and not enough about taking opportunities.
Also it leaves pockets behind to which it assigns troops who then stand around until you order them into the empty province.

Basically, nukes are a good breakthrough tool.
Its really annoying that you cant simply sell weapons to other countriesa

Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem, I've yet to see anyone else report it though. Military Power bugs out once it goes over 1000 or so for me, when clicking on a building on a planet the text is BUILDING_DETAILS which seems like a placeholder or something. It seems like there might be a problem with localization or something but I just assumed maybe it was a mod issue or something wrong with my setup.
This might be a HOI4 mod to your eye on

"Fortress Amsterdam" is a totally viable tactic. By that, I mean simply dotting the mainland Netherlands with forts and anti-aircraft, and bumrushing rocket artillery and anti-tank.
Just using infantry with anti-tank and rocket artillery turns you into a nearly impenetrable monster once the Blitzkrieg rolls around. Granted, you end up getting rolled over eventually, but if paired with a player/competent AI, you can be the allied holdout.

Going over 1000 military power is also when it does it for me, though I don't think I have the issue with buildings. I do get the same bug on the bottom of diplomacy screens though.
fixed
I'm not sure if anyone cares that much, but here's Ethiopia being embroiled in World War V. The date is 3/8/1963. I assume everyone is out of manpower (including me) and I use nukes as frontline weapons. Good thing I make one every 3-4 days.

A lot of fuckery caused this. Friend and I were playing Japan and China and decided to create our own faction rather than go to war with one another. On the other side of the world Poland managed to beat back Germany. So we cause a revolution in Poland, creating Falangist Poland. Falangist Poland joins the allies, Poland somehow annexs both The Netherlands and Belgium. Allies defeat Poland, Falangist Poland is given all of Polands land, including the lowlands, Falangist Poland then leaves the Allies. Then France leaves the allies, opting to align itself with Republican Spain and Yugoslavia, the only two nations left in the Comintern.
[editline]24th June 2016[/editline]
Oh also made America fascist. However their national focuses made them declare war on Japan. Brutal invasion of the west coast, I lost about 2 million men, America lost over 4 million. Then I dropped some nukes and the war was won before we even got out of Nevada.
Doing a Turkey game with the aim of going communist, but Britain decided to influence me towards democratic and I can't get communism above 30% anymore. I've got the idea that gives me -75% impact from foreign influence, but it turns out that does nothing because Britain used an event.
Am I boned?
[editline]25th June 2016[/editline]
nvm, random events saved me
All these pictures of Poland beating Germany bug the hell out of me, do they really do it so regularly? HoI IV really seems more like it's inline with the EU series with pointless blobbing rather than playing a WWII scenario.
Uh, if a player is egging a country on, almost anyone can win. If you just let it go and observe than Poland will never win.

Poland is really horrifyingly overpowered in HoI IV. Their national focus tree gives them so many OP tech boosts. You can get mechanized 1 in 1939 with a 20 day research. You can get medium tanks in just as fast.
I've taken Berlin in 1939 as poland
[editline]24th June 2016[/editline]
I've also done this
which is me holding off over 400 divisions of russian troops
That's silly as hell. It's a WWII scenario, Poland should be at best a challenge playthrough. Yea in previous games you could technically take over the world as pretty much anyone but it at least took massive amounts of cheese and some skill with anyone not a great power.
