Paradox Interactive Thread: V3 'Check out my sick Germany blob'

I'd like to try out EU4 because the whole ''map painting'' and whatnot seems quite interesting.
Two questions, though.
1. How hard is it to learn?
2. Which edition should I buy? The complete DLC package, the Extreme edition or the normal game?
$25 for the complete edition seems almost criminal.
Why cant they make a nation designer for CK2 and call it a day
$25 for the complete edition seems almost criminal.
It's not complete though.
So does El Dorado combine with conquest of Paradise in generating an entirely random world?
Random world is just nation placement. If you mean if randomized nation placement and Random New World can go together, I'm not sure, let me check.

uh what

We should do a game tomorrow night, every server I try to go on either kicks me or the host quits before shit's finalized.
Starting in the Oceanic continent with Nation Designer lets you pick western for free.
I'm starting as TPM, Capital in Oceania and 2nd province in Asia. Going to colonize my way to asia and then us my tech advantage and national ideas to take over asia quickly.

Anyone? I mean, the complete DLC Collection thing obviously has the most content, but how significant is the DLC? Does it just add skins or something, or does it add nations/provinces/times, or does it add new game mechanics?
And as for one, I do play a lot of Civ V and BE which I hear from people is basically ''babby's first grand strategy'' :v:

All of the above basically.
Basically there's three types of DLC;
1. Major DLC, adds lots of new mechanics and content
2. Cosmetic DLC, mostly unit skin packs and adviser portraits
3. Music DLC which you can also find here
Look at the features of each DLC and see what you'd enjoy most. Also note that if you're playing Multiplayer, whatever DLC the host has will be active.
As for how hard it is to learn, will take you a while, but you can find lots of useful video tutorials and also look at the wiki.

So the DLC Collection for €10 extra over the standard edition would be worth it, seeing as there are like 4 major DLCs?

The difficulty of learning the game will be determined by your playstyle and how willing you are to learn. I'm pretty new to Europa Universalis 4, I bought the game late december last year. As someone who has played games such as Civilization, I found it easy to get in to since the fundamental are still very much the same. Though I have dabbled for a bit in Hearts of Iron 3 back in the day. If you enjoy Civilization I'm sure you will enjoy Europa Universalis.
It's a much more complex game, with intricate mechanics which can be hard to understand fully. Hell, I've spent almost 200 hours in the game and every time I start the game I learn something new. The wiki is an invaluable source of information, it will help make different events and mechanics clear to you as you play.
As someone who spent a lot of time in Civilization 4/5 I found myself being a bit annoyed at certain aspects of EU4 at first. Especially the random nature of the game. Your king might randomly die, you might loose a stability point. The random events that happen through out the game aren't really crippling but they can be annoying as RNG plays a large part in the game.
The AI is incredibly fun, as the events that unfold around the world are all different every game. It's always fun seeing the Holy Roman Empire unite and creating a huge, powerful blob in central Europe. Ming imploding creating a large amount of small states, all fighting each other for dominance in Asia.
I'd definitely recommend the game to anyone who's a fan of grand strategy or the 4X genre.
I'd recommend buying the Europa Universalis IV Collection, and then add the Art of War expansion on top. If you're new to the game you might want to hold off on buying the recently released El Dorado expansion until a price drop or until you find out how much you like the game.
sometimes Random World is a bit crazy, most if not all of that was from the initial randomization.

Yeah randomized world is pretty stupid because you end up having a completely historical Bohemia or whatever just named China for some reason, and stuff like the HRE still exists.
So this is the Frisian flag as it was before El Dorito. It is fine.
[t]http://www.eu4wiki.com/images/archive/4/4e/20150227082245%21Friesland.png[/t]
They decided to change it to the actual flag of Fryslan. This is also fine.
[t]http://www.nationalflaggen.de/media/flags/flagge-friesland-fryslan.gif[/t]
However, Paradox decided instead to change it into this thing. This is not fine.

Thanks Paradox.
They should've just kept the coat of arms flag. It really bothers me that for some countries Paradox uses coats of arms but for a handful of countries they've opted to use flags (Denmark for example).

Ah the great Ansbachians of China, known for their glass.
Another funny thing with Random world, is the rulers keep the first time of the culture the country originally is, but get a dynasty name from the culture of where the country is.
The Emperor of Ansbach was Frederick VII He

So glad I decided to watch Quill18's "Waffle Wars" series because its helped me a lot in my Sweden campaign.
Is El Torito worth it? I had to coerce my friend into buying me AOW.

How so?
I know things about EUIV I didn't know before, or neglected. Like the importance of using a fleet to protect trade to boost income. Little thibgs I never really paid attention to before, which is probably why the last time I had a succesful EUIV campaign was at release with Poland.
Modding EU4 is a hassle
I guess modding pdox games in general is
In-game nudge editor, the tool you use to make new provinces not look retarded, randomly decided to crash with me, then stopped working, aand started working 2 hours later, even though I hadn't made any changes.
In 4 hours I managed to add 6 provinces to the game :suicide:
It's time

you shouldn't be adding provinces one at a time.
I just got EU4 and was super excited to port over my first game from CK2. Well, the CK2 side of things went well, but apparently the converter is outdated or something, because I can't play it on EU4. Any work arounds besides waiting?
Where does it crash?
I think the updater is still broken since the Art of War update?
