I play HPP for HoI3, personally. Was just never able to trigger the FRG/DDR events
Playing BIE my game literally became unplayable around early 45.
Yeah, I guess it has to to with the shitton of counters that appears around 41 to 44. You got huge battles in USSR, huge battles in China, battles in Africa, battles in the pacific and almost all of the "main" countries get loads of events that create new units. So basically the game gets extremly overloaded.
Playing BIE my game literally became unplayable around early 45.
BlackICE is bloated as fuck as it is, I wonder how they'll manage with the '33 date.
New HOI4 dev diary http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?846137-Development-Diary-14-National-Focuses& [editline]20th March 2015[/editline] Johan says another 3 months until beta, looks like we might not be getting a Q2 release. Also this National Foci system looks a lot better then the old one.

Any backstory? Why is Turkey not neutral? Altough, i did have it join the Axis after Spain, Portugal Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan did the same and Italy reached it's southern border after Vichy France became fucked up where for some reason and the Axis declared war against them. Italy, Germany, Portugal and Spain carved it up on the mainland and in Africa, Gibraltar and Malta was taken over as well. Then when i landed in France as the Americans i liberated France but for some reason Vichy France continued to exist in the south as i conquered the provinces. In that same game i've had Japan take over Hawaii and land on the west coast (they've also landed in Australia and have been fighting in Burma since 41) and Germany pushed way past Moscow and Stalingrad and Finland took over Archangelsk. I kept them embargoed and refused to send industrial aid to keep them fighting since i put both Germany and the Soviets to Very Hard in Black Ice which gives them some insane modifiers. For some reason they didn't fall. Oh and i puppeted the south american countries on the west coast before the war and Argentina joined the Axis and they've been fighting in Chile for years now. Also in a different game playing as the Americans i had Germany take over the UK (since i embargoed them and refused to send industrial aid) Churchill was dead and the Germans landed in the East Coast with a massive force and pretty much destroyed me. EDIT: Forgot to mention that for some reason MacArthur was elected as president for me in 1940.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that for some reason MacArthur was elected as president for me in 1940.
Alright so, we'll start out the story with the glorious nation of Portugal. Portugal, strong, independent, the first of the colonizers in the great bygone era's, a stark comparison to how it is in the onset of World War 2. Being the great benevolent ruler I am we started industrializing our beautiful country and polluting the skys with smog. Now early on I was simply seeking territorial ambitions for myself, I built up my economy, researched my doctrines mostly focusing on my Infantry and Artillery and outsourcing production licences to similar ideological countries. I built up a sizable army, aiming to restore my colonial power I had dumped about 60 IC into 5 marine divisions (composition of Marine, Pack Art, Amph Arm., Engineer, AT, the marines were outsourced from Japan and the Amph armor, landwascherschleper's from the Reich) about 16k strong each, these would be the bulkheads of my army allowing me to force my way into where I fancied invading, given the time I hadn't had time to prepare much of my navy so I picked the weakest power still holding onto (my rightful) clay, Vichy! (I was using strictest training filter and specialist training so keep in mind the IC costs for a few divisions is insane, can't really afford to waste MP on a minor) The Portuguese crusades into northern Africa began to liberate the downtrodden populace, the French traitors unsurprisingly offered no resistance, with a non-existent navy I simply waltzed in and with a beachhead established in Casablanca I landed my two Infantry corp's breaking the front with my Marines and Naval bombers acting as impromptu land support. From there it was simply mopping up any stragglers. With Africa secured I was forced to invade mainland southern France to force the government to capitulate and accept my demands, scouting it out with some of my air force and the solo submarine of the Portuguese navy (god bless you submarine) I decided to attack the city of Nice to grab a nice port to send supplies and my army through, from there it was mostly encircling and attempting to eliminate as many troops as possible as my smaller (but extremely experienced army) couldn't hold a front of that size. Eventually I rolled up to Vichy, adding to the peace table their territory in the Levant and the custody of the port in Nice. (just changed the owner to me) While the Portuguese war to reclaim their honor was going on, another greater battle raged on, an ideological war to the death where neither side would stop until complete destruction of the other was accomplished with their brains beaten out of their skull, it was late 1943. The Germans had sizable gains into western Russia, but as the great Napoleon has taught us if you're not confident you can get to Moscow before your blitz modifiers wear off you should probably pick the winter clothes option, despite the NU hit. The Proletariat had begun their counteroffensives, Hitler being the foolish AI he was in real life simply couldn't stand this and soon the Reich was losing ground, albeit not at the speed as we know, but the war grinded on draining the Germans of their MP, a luxury the Soviets could enjoy with their endless hordes. In the west the Americans set into motion their plans of an Anvil and Hammer to smash the Germans between two fronts, the invasion began in Brittany with Marines claiming a sea-side city and attempting to wrestle the French from their new glorious German rulers, unsurprisingly they were kicked back into the ocean by the superior might of the Wehrmacht. Looking on the Portuguese were not foolish, being a fellow fascist nation they realized they could not be bystanders for much longer, with the greater picture in view they realized their ideas and way of life were at threat, not only from the Bolshevik scum, but the horrible Cheeseburger eating Americans. Enter, the Portuguese Marine. The goal was simple, secure the Caucasus oil fields for the Reich, starve the enemy of their vital gasoline, capture their oil facilities and collaborate with the oppressed nationalist movements of the Georgians, Azerbaijani and more. Accomplish this and the Bear's endless siege would stop dead in its tracks, and so it was selected, on the border of Turkey, the city of Batumi. This would not be an easy target, thankfully the industrial machine back home had been churning out massive steel beasts to be deployed in the water to support this amphibious invasion. As so it began, the 4 Heavy Cruisers and 4 Light Cruisers set out destroying what was left of the Black Sea fleet, taking no losses while under the watchful eye of our Naval Bombers the Landing Craft opened their doors as the brave men of our country stormed this shithole. With a wound created we began metaphorically 'ripping and tearing' expanding ground, cutting off supply routes to the front and slithering our way to the oilfields. As my army marched forth, I had realized I had made a terrible mistake. This is mountainous terrain, I had no Mountaineers. This lack of foresight probably cost us the war, the battles in the mountains slugged on for months, managing to secure two or three provinces each month we worked our way up to the cities of Yerevan and Tbilisi, the Russians eventually wised up to our plans sending more aid in the form of Armor to supplement their endless conscript hordes, while it did divert troops from the front it simply wasn't enough. In the the west the Hamburgers struck again, this time their landing was a success landing in Normandy and Brittany they had decided to (smartly this time) bring armor. The Spaniards had recently joined our great cause and had been tasked with protecting the rear of the Reich. They stood no chance, the Allies finally had enough of our Iberian bullshit and declared war on us, hordes swarmed over the Pyrenees and from Gibraltar, but I had not been idle. Mobilizing from my capital were two new corps, a completely mechanized fighting force with total armor support and my new Mountaineers. Sending the Mechanized troops to the north to push the Americans back the Mountain troops set their eyes on 'The Rock' Gibraltar. (seriously fuck that piece of shit, level 8 forts, level 8 pillboxes, 8 AA in mountain terrain) This went about as well as you expected, not having the IC to build any fortress busters I simply sat around it and quarantined it hoping the Brit's would keep attacking my fortified troops and burning through their MP, this cycle continued for a few months. Despite being able to secure our mountain border with France we couldn't stop the American advance, Shermans razed the countryside destroying the beautiful Rheinland it would not be long before the fall of Berlin. Despite this the Germans tenaciously clung onto their territory in Russia, only 100km from Moscow, so close, yet so far. I had not fared any better in the Caucasus mountains, then, it was the straw that broke the Camel's back. Germany had lost a VP, at that moment the British had won the war. I had to cut my losses, sending my transport ships to salvage what I could of my troops now stranded behind enemy lines I made a horrifying observation. The fucking backstabbing Turks had joined the Allies, I was now royally fucked, they swept in from behind cutting off my port access. My forces provided bounding cover to mass up into as big of a spearhead and possible but the circle began to tighten, cutting off our air, and valiant men of my Country put up their last, greatest fight, stuck between two different evils united to stop the glorious advancement of the Portuguese empire. With my at least 80% of my army now gone it was time, His Excellency, Óscar Carmona faced with the situation couldn't handle it anymore and hit 'Quit Game'. I didn't write about Japan because they're fucking assholes, despite killing all the chinese in '41 they dicked around in the Pacific instead of attacking the Russians from the backdoor. Fuck those guys. I also didn't spell check or proof read this because I already should have stopped like 3 paragraphs ago.
If you guys want a MP game of EUIV a youtuber called Shenryyr is doing one right now, its partialy started but its only in 1508.
Long story
That was beautiful. I haven't played Portugal yet, furthest i got with a minor was with Hungary where i took over Austria, Switzerland, Romania, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, and Greece (in that order) by 1941. I haven't bothered to continue it, i could easily crush Turkey and move into the middle east if i wanted to.
this is great Damn the tumbnail ruins some of it.
they changed swedens flag from the three crowns to the Nordic Cross
this is great Damn the tumbnail ruins some of it.
Sometimes I regret not making a AAR out of my ck2-vick2 campaign. I posted snippets of it here and there in these threads along with twcenter but people (here at least) weren't very interested in it much.
I've just found my love for EU4 again, but god is it frustrating me. My usual preference is for CK2, but it runs so much slower than EU4 because there's so much going on, and so my more serious and involved playing has shifted to EU4. Any advice for someone constantly getting curb stomped in ironman mode? I seem to have no problems outside of it, but the AI bonuses are really killing me. I like to start with a small nation and work my way up, but it seems like every time I start an ironman campaign I get curbstomped in the first couple decades. Either I forgo alliances and get crushed by someone slightly larger than me, or I try making some friends, only for them to drag me into a conflict that results in me getting utterly crushed anyway. Normally I do a pretty good job of timing invasions or wars, but in ironman it feels like the AI has a "fuck you" button rigged for whenever I start what I think is a well timed conflict. Any tips or advice, especially aimed at small nations, for dealing with the above normal difficulty settings that come with ironman? Normally I play without bonuses on normal difficulty (lucky nations is sometimes on and sometimes off).
so this happened in my friend's CKII game. [t]http://cloud-4.steamusercontent.com/ugc/529511306333891291/469106942884D1F1AB89DBA2BBEB6BBC80353A7D/[/t]

idk, it's not my screenshot it's some dude I know on Steam. I haven't touched CKII in ages. The only games I cheated in ever were the Age of Empires series because running down Spanish Troops with a Monster Truck is pretty fucking awesome.

Paradox Forums have gotten a big update Also a big article on HOi4 (plus some new screens) http://blog.digitaltutors.com/behind-the-scenes-of-hearts-of-iron-4/ Side note, HOI4 is now officially in Alpha, and British Raj appears to be its own country now instead of just being part of the UK. [editline]30th March 2015[/editline] According to a dev post, country names in HOI4 will change with ideology now, example he gave was Germany will only be called 'German Reich' if fascist. Flags are still static though.

That and the whole democrat-republican system dies unless there's: -No fascist/communist party -More than 3 parties -Republicans as fascists/Democrats as communists -One of the parties doesn't exist None of which work out that well or in the case of more than 3 parties begs the question why paradox hasn't added more parties to Germany because there are enough parties to add. [editline]a[/editline] New forums look really awesome, also ratings.

I hope that changes, and maybe we will be able to import portraits from HOI3. I'm also hoping it will give us more freedom and options on managing your country. I felt like the whole politics tab was useless other than choosing your ministers. I could never change my government no matter what i did. Like i wanted to join the Axis or the Comintern as the US and it was impossible unless you cheated or edited some files.
if it is as modifiable as most other paradox games, then you can replace anything you want.
Victoria 2 politics or bust!
HoI should extend politics by a lot or just drop it. Currently it adds almost nothing for me.
BlackICE I think is the only mod which actually makes it useful with modifiers depending on party popularity.
Well this has been my break so far [t]http://i.cubeupload.com/RSv009.png[/t] In case anyone doesn't know, that's the rivers file for my mod. Hand drawing it all is a bitch.
Started a new campaign as Ragnarr Lodbrok's father in CK2 with all DLC, starting at Charlemagne. Didn't cheat too much, just gave myself as much gold as I need and a little bit of piety to reform the Germanic faith. In first ruler's lifetime I managed to forge the Scandinavian empire and take parts of eastern Europe and reform the Germanic faith. Because of the succession laws I didn't get to play as Ragnarr right away, but his brother Rolo. He in his lifetime managed to spread the Germanic religion and supress multiple old Germanic revolts and expand the empire even more south, taking Estonia, Lithuania and a bunch of coastal provinences. He also successfully rekt King Karl of Francia (With multiple merc armies obviously) for starting shit against our ally Saxony. He in the old age of 62 became a insane and thanks to one of the flavour events, sacrificed himself to Cthulhu. Ragnarr then took the reigns of the Empire in his late 60's, at which point he had at least 10 children half of whom were dead or bastards. Ragnarr spent most of his time building and upgrading his country, sending gifts, building cities, temples and feasting to get people to like him so he could increase crown authority and centralisation laws. He also managed to take over Iceland and northern parts of Scotland along with small isles nearby. A traveller once came through his lands and because he let him stay in my castle he gave me a servant, a black eunich from Ethiopia who was a loyal servant and even changed his religion to Germanic. Ragnarr gave his new servant a county and a Jarldom. The servant then invited some more of his Ethiopian friends over to his court, all which received cities and temples from Ragnarr who only asked of them to convert to Germanic faith in return, which they faithfully did. By the time Ragnarr passed away from old age (Over 80 years old!) some of his Ethiopian vassals even got married and started cute mixed families of their own in middle of Sweden in the 9th century. Ragnarr died but not before getting his 24 year old concubine pregnant for the very last time with his 19th child. Now after his death things got really messy, the empire fractured into 2 parts as the Kingdom of Norway ruled by Ragnarr's son Kal refused to bend the knee for their new emprerror Bo. Bo Ragnarrson wasn't having none of that shit so he sent his spymaster and castellan to Kal's capital where they managed to start an Ukraine like rebellion to return the Kingdom of Norway to the control of the Scandinavian empire. Emperror Bo decided to back the rebels in their civil war, eventually destroying King Kal and his vassals, and re-uniting the Empire. All was good under Bo, but he died pretty young at 59 with only 1 heir, Ragnarr II who was strong, kind, ambitious and a few other traits at only 8 years old. The empire was claimed by the 2nd oldest living son of Ragnarr. I was planning to come back as Ragnarr II and depose his uncle because Ragnarr II was pretty much the strongest heir alive, but he sadly died less than a year after his father's passing after some illness or something. At this point I realised I have less than 5 hours left until I have to get back up for work so I quit. Even with cheats the game is so fun, just a bit easy but honestly everything in the game just costs too much so I just pretended that this is an alternate reality where Ragrarr's father found a massive gold mine or a solid gold meteorite to fund his families adventures. I never used any other commands for getting trais, killing people or starting events though. Should I be making an AAR out of this? I plan to keep going with cheats or without until the end of CK2 and probably into EU4. How do even people do them? Just take screenshots or is there some tool to make it easier?
Lots of Text
I sure wish I had for one of my oldest games, it was real game of thrones tier drama. It was the Crusader Empire of Outremer, consisting of the kingdoms of Egypt (Main) Jerusalem, Africa, and Nubia. Anyway Emperor dies, sweet ass general heir inherits (think Robb) and proceeds to defend Nubia from a holy war. Gathers a huge army and along with his old friend turn rival (whatshisname last name Greyjoy) who was also a great general. They make it into Nubia and wait for the Islamic attack that they knew they would win, when suddenly a plot to murder the Robb-like character fires, headed by none other than his old friend/rival and his father the Duke of Jerusalem. Immediately revolts break out after his death (This was an old version of CK2+ before factions) and the the newly deserted army is slaughtered to a man by the Muslims. Thus the Empire was powerless and the new Emperor had to grant the various dukes independence who had revolted against him. In the end the Empire consisted of the core of Egypt, while Africa, Jerusalem, and Nubia fell apart into several dukedoms, whom eventually were conquered into their respective kingdoms (The man who united Jerusalem was none other than the Greyjoy-like character) and Outremer was forevermore divided. I wasn't even mad, that was a great and drama filled game, I wish I made a AAR out of it. There was also that time I basically inherited Europe with a single character.

I haven't played EU4 yet but I feel I won't enjoy it nearly as much as CK2. The character based gameplay is probably my favourite thing about CK2 (And could still use more additions) and as far as I can tell EU4 is CK2 with that part removed and replaced with a bigger map, more technology and more in-depth naval gameplay.
