My kinsman has fucking 40 kids. Only 2 of them were legitimate. Jesus christ. CK2.

Was 15 kids, not quite 40, but still. Fucking 15 kids. I think 5 were legitimate. I spun off a couple bastard dynasties. Guys is the witcher mod for CK2 any good?
Guys is the witcher mod for CK2 any good?
I've been too busy to try it out, but Jon Stryker is a good friend and is very well regarded in the mod community, so I'd give it the benefit of the doubt.
I've always wanted to get in to these games but my friends aren't really in to games like this so I never have. Figured I'd do it anyway. EU4 or CK2? I can't decide. Can someone please give me a quick summary of the differences between both?
CK2 is easier to pick up and get into as there's less overall mechanics you'll have to manage. It's way more straight forward than EU4 since you don't have to really deal with the Macro-economy that much. I recommend just getting CK2 and the DLC expansions when a sale comes around as they usually do every two to three months, and then using that as a gateway to EU4.
EU4 it is. Cheers.
Ok that is weird. Why are they naming the Capital after the region and not the city?
Probably because the capital province is called Vlaanderen and the game takes the capital name from the province name like in every other PDX game. It's a very silly mistake, especially since the system probably works the same like any Paradox game in the last 10 years. [editline]29th May 2015[/editline]
I think the map would look better if they used either the flat, realistic looking map style from Victoria 2, or the map style from Crusader Kings 2. The maps from EU4 and HOI4 look too odd and computery. When you look at a map from Victoria 2 or EU3, it bares quite a bit of resemblance to an actual map, with the map creases, simple colors, and the paper background. With EU4 and HOI4, it looks nothing like an actual paper map, and instead more like Google Earth. Crusader Kings 2 has a nice hybrid going, the 3D isn't jarring, and the map style is that of a regular map, with the colors and borders.I'm sure someone will mod it to look better, but honestly Paradox should have stuck with the flat map style.
My problem with it atm is that it looks too formless and blobby.
So I bought the Paradox Bundle from the Humble Bundle website... And I have no clue how to play any of these games. Do you guys have any advice?
What DLC should I have for EU4.

So there really isn't any excuse there. Provinces in HOI4 are built around the terrain instead of internal borders. Oh, but I believe there are still regions.. hm. [editline]29th May 2015[/editline] Bunch of YT LPers are going to be playing HOI4 at a press event next week http://www.reddit.com/r/paradoxplaza/comments/37n0wp/northernlion_arumba_mathas_and_quill18_and_others/ NorthernLion, Arumba, Mathas, and Quill18 + others
So i converted an EUIV game to Victoria 2, and the conversion went swimmingly. Though the results are...to be desired. [t]http://i.imgur.com/HsQRDFO.png[/t] Europe In the east, it's a toss-up of power between Lithuania, Poland and a resurgent Byzantium. In the west though, the French have essentially absolute authority in Europe. Finland broke away in the 1480s, and steamrolled into Sweden and Denmark. Gross. [t]http://i.imgur.com/5bwtIfM.png[/t] North Africa Again, Byzantium holds the monopoly on 'most powerful', but isn't necessarily the largest. A lot of the west African nations managed to survive, and Tunis is a force to be reckoned with with all of its West African allies. Note that Morocco literally has not changed for 400 years. [t]http://i.imgur.com/EeQImxa.png[/t] South Africa Nothing amazing here, really, just some colonies. And yes, that is Scotland. Yes, Scotland lives in Madagascar now. No, they still wear kilts, I'm pretty sure about that not changing. [t]http://i.imgur.com/croxJ8z.png[/t] Middle-East Georgia is the big winner here, having punched the Persians in the nose time and time again once they got religious ideas back in the 1600s. Yemen is super powerful as well, but keeps its head down as Georgia and Byzantium are allies. [t]http://i.imgur.com/mH6fdxz.png[/t] China "The Mongols shall rise again!" said the Oirat, completely forgetting that they basically own most of Asia. The Ming, as per usual, imploded intoa bunch of warring states. Korea got huge, Tibet started melting, the Vietnamese took a bite, and yes that is 'Haitian Asia'. We'll get to that. [t]http://i.imgur.com/dt5rJSK.png[/t] India Surprisingly clean, considering. "Deccan" is the transferred name of the Bahmanis, and have basically wiped out Hinduism. Seriously. India is like, 70%~ Muslim, tossup 50/50 Shia/Sunni. Note the rump French and Portuguese colonies. [t]http://i.imgur.com/XAg7Hd3.png[/t] Indonesia *Tries to hold back vomit* Basically a bunch of Indonesian nations survived the early colonization. Yes, that is Mexico in Indonesia. Yes, that is a Portuguese philippines. Yes, that is Haiti in New Guinea. No, I don't know why I let this happen. [t]http://i.imgur.com/6d36pzx.png[/t] Australia Ahhh, that's refreshing. A Portuguese Australia that owns New Zealand and basically has hegemony in the east. That'll stay, right?...right? [t]http://i.imgur.com/xjN4qSz.png[/t] South America Also surprisingly clean. Kinda border-gore, it's a patchwork of Spanish Brazil, Portuguese Argentina, French Colombia and Peru, and all sorts of whateverthefuck cultures got absorbed in the 1700s-1800s of constant fighting. [t]http://i.imgur.com/vrIKzx3.png[/t] North America Yep, here's where it gets weird. Louisiana is mostly Spanish, but has a huge Norwegian community in, well, actual Louisiana. Mexico is mostly Portuguese, but annexed the 'English Mexico' in a huge war, and so their population is about 60% English. Haiti owns the Caribbean, and why they're in Asia I don't know. Franco-Spanish Canada owns Alaska, but that's not too out of the ordinary. Spanish American Kingdom, however, is. Oddities [t]http://i.imgur.com/eula4px.png[/t] The biggest laughable thing that I found was Japan here. You try and figure out why their pop is considered weird. [t]http://i.imgur.com/0wiRrn6.png[/t] Yes, so this is the American culture map. Fucking purge it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/U6x2rH6.png[/t] *insert crying Farage*
Provinces in HOI4 are built around the terrain instead of internal borders.
So there will be no accurate East-West German border for example?
So there will be no accurate East-West German border for example?
If the whole sandbox direction is really what is going to happen. Provided you play from 1944 the Allies and Soviets will meet at different points in Germany unless it goes literally 100% historically. The East-West Border should be determined where they meet, not forced into a weird historical template. When that happens there should be no need for a historically accurate border within the provinces.

Not something I like doing, but I aquired EU4 because of money troubles, then proceeded to play it for 8 hours straight wasting my entire day. I'm absolutely hooked, the game is fantastic. I'll save up and buy it during the June sale. It's too good not to. I need more!
they are great games there is a good reason for this thread to exist
Anyway, for when I do get it, are there any must have mods?
HoI3 no DLC crap. 1939 UK(me) gets enough of Germany's crap send the entire British army to the French German border. Same year Germany invades the low countries, minor advances into France. March 1940 French German border is only manned by the UK while France is pushing through Flanders and Zeeland. Would have hoped the US would send over some damn troops. [editline]29th May 2015[/editline] Australia went commie.
Wait, how the hell did Australia join the Comintern? Also playing with Black Ice, no matter what i do France always gets destroyed. I can send my whole armed forces there, they'll get destroyed. Even if Paris is still in French hands, they'll still fall because Germany takes over the Maginot line and France gets some insane negative modifiers as soon as Germany declares war. Those negative modifiers includes lower National Unity so if Germany takes over a bunch of victory points then France falls even if they hold Paris. I've also built 10/10 everything fortifications along the whole border even with Belgium and Germany still broke trough. I've seen a video where a guy survived WW2 as France only by holding Paris with a bunch of units and maximum fortifications. I think that was without mods though.
So i converted an EUIV game to Victoria 2, and the conversion went swimmingly. Though the results are...to be desired.
I really would like to see the political map of Europe, as well as the cultural map of the North America after a full game.

The AI gets some weird modifiers I believe like you said, but as long as you hold the low countries they shouldn't (I say shouldn't because the AI sometimes fucks up) breach the Maginot. The problem with France's army is almost none if any divisions have AT attached to them, and their Theater HQ's have Inf tanks on them as well for some reason???
What DLC should I have for EU4.
Art of War and wait for Common Sense which is out one June 9th. Others aren't really worth it much. You can play them in mp too.
http://www.moddb.com/mods/victoria-ultimate/images This is still being worked on? Wow. Is it even the same team anymore?
http://www.moddb.com/mods/victoria-ultimate/images This is still being worked on? Wow. Is it even the same team anymore?
iirc this is the third completely new team that's working on it
Will be the first I'm not a part of.
Currently in the process of a hands-off CK2 game, and going to convert to EUIV. Will post pics once CK2>EUIV convert is done, and then obv. I plan on converting that to Vicky 2.
EU3 was fun [t]http://puu.sh/anmRc/7debc75608.jpg[/t]
