However the game is in approved alpha which means beta is next.
Johan says a release date would be announced the earliest in 6 months
Dev Diary next week, and I believe that there will be continuous diaries until release
Yeah so i'm still looking for people to play Meiou and taxes for EU4 with. PM me here on FP or reply in this thread if you are interested.
Johan says there are 36 dev diary topics to pick from for HOI4.
Does Paradox still sell box copies? I thought they went all digital
The Muslims have conquered southern Italy, the Catholics hold north, the Fraticelli hate both.
Europe is getting very uncomfortable.
Going through old screenshots is always an experience

I forgot about the Great Serpent Austria from EU3
At a certain point some bugged truce messages kept appearing (along with crashes), so checked the diplomacy screen to see what the cause was.

I had to revert back to a save in which the USA and Thirteen Colonies weren't at war and used the console to give all the provinces of the latter to the USA.
The Holy Roman Empire is now a merchant republic led by a black man.

Reminds me of when a karling became pope and made germany a theocracy.

Certainly one nice thing about 4 was the lack, or at least significant reduction, of snake nations.

Yeah, dear god. That was terrible. Fucking Bohemia and Austria just become squirts of cum and bile all over the map. Terrible.

The Roman Empire as of 688. From Morrocco to Basra, Aksum to Astrakhan, the empire has endured almost 3 centuries beyond it's historical survival. With 100% religious unity in the Hellenistic faith and an extensive program in place to convert foreign lands to Roman culture, the Empire is stronger than ever, despite the significant territorial losses it suffered in the last centuries to it's northern limes.
England is united under a powerful Druid monarchy, and has helped me in dislodging Frisia as the massive Germanic powerhouse it has been. I've managed to eat the remnants of a Hellenic Gaul that I was forced to release back in the 200s as a buffer state to slow the Germanic migrations.
Dacia, Bavaria, and Alemanni. (The two long thin countries in southern Germany, and the green one in Romania) are my vassals, and the giant tan blob in Prussia/Poland are the Goths, my main Ally in destroying the other Germans.
My current plans are going well, but the future holds great terror. To the east lies the Parthian Empire, which I had defeated for control of all territory West of the fertile crescent ages ago, and since then has turned entirely to the East for conquest. India has unified under Hindustan, and has devoured half of China. Han is still powerful, but between the Parthians and India, it may soon be pushed to the coast.
The Empire has survived the Germanic Migration, The rise and fall of both Christianity and Islam within it's borders, and an event which suddenly turned every possession of mine east of Turkey into another culture along with a rebellion.
The greatest hurtles that crushed the historical empire have been overcome, but I feel that a new era of war and bloodshed is only just beginning.
Also ib4 Mongols.
I only wish I had toggled random new world (if extended supports that?)
Blobs don't entertain me anymore :(
Seeing that post made me realize that.
I've always preferred smaller more intense politics like the HRE as well. This campaign has been a big challenge just because of the scale involved.
I almost never play as countries like the UK in Vic II, or France in CKII for that reason.
I don't know, having a blob like Rome that manages to actually survive despite there being events built to kill it are kind of interesting to me. But stuff that is just an arbitrary Polandblob or France conquering the world are still meh.
The thing with Rome in Extended is that once you beat the barbs then you're basically done.
There's no real risk for the rest of the game.

And that was more or less my goal. Once the Abrahamic religions were removed, and the germans subjugated I didn't plan on playing through to 2015 unless shit stayed interesting. I'd imagine the giant world war with Parthia would be somewhat fun, but world conquest is just tiring from what I've experienced. I'll consider a Roman Empire, alive and flourishing in 1066 in control of all of Europe and Africa to be a good enough place to say "I win".
the Natives in the Americas start to blob up in extended as well.
They should have events or something (or perhaps have them not appear until a certain point) that stops them from spreading.
The thing that deters me the most about playing large nations in Victoria II is how much of a mess it is to just keep everything in check in the late game. It's not hard or anything, it just becomes tedious.

I will never play Britain. You couldn't pay me to because of that shit.

Try organizing an army as Russia hitting the 20th century. You'll spend 90% of your time trying to rebuild from the neverending uprisings.
The only countries I find impossible to play in Vicky 2 are the UK, Russia and China. Russia and China are just too insanely large to manage the army / industry, and the UK is just such a pain in the ass to move everything around with.
China's actually pretty easy to manage for me. The UK is a bit large, but I mainly find it boring since if you just have total liberal policies the AI can make anything and it will do well because you're the fucking UK.
If you have Ceylon and Cape, you can pretty much rule the world Navally in either EU4 or Vic2. As the UK starts out with those, it's not really a concern and it's just a cakewalk. The problem is managing it all.

Here is a mod where you start as the Roman Republic in 300bc. Good times. Pretty much dead but still fun in its current state.
