HOI4 Dev Diary. Not a typical one, it just explains why it was delayed.

All the non-cosmetic DLC costs 53.48 with the sale.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/TsRgn4M.jpg[/t]
Majority of that is cosmetic DLC which you don't need unless you like having historically accurate units

I dunno if EU IV is worth 73$ for full game + all non cosmetic dlc. Or, uh, 146 dollars without it being on sale.

Conquest of Paradise is easily skippable which is a good 7.49 off, bringing you down to the average AAA game price. El Dorado can be skipped too, really, so that's 10.04 gone.

CK2 is very satisfying once you get the hang of things. I'm still very new to all of it.
Started out in as a custom Duke of Circinn in Pictland. I want to become King as I also have a strong claim, so I plot to kill the then king Cibiod and killed him. Before moving onto his heir Tarla, I discover that my vassal from Ce is plotting against me. I try to imprison him but fail, so he wages a war I'm bound to win. 100% warscore after winning 5 battles, he still refuses to surrender: untouched holdings and armies (BS). In the meantime I married a woman and had an heir.
The game is f*n fun

The game doesn't stop when you're a king. The entire world need to see the light of the Pictish culture.
The alliance system is pure crap. "Allies" constantly betray you, and IF they would actually join your war, they'll just take what they want and make a separate peace and leave you to die.
First time playing as the SU, I'll cross my fingers and hope I can ride out the storm.

W-what
is that an independent Austria? And why didn't you absorb the Baltics?

I don't get it, how do you not get turned off from playing the game trying to organize your armies? Thats my main turnoff for HoI 3 and why I look forward to HoI 4 so much.

Looks to me like Hungary.

I don't mean to sound insulting but do you know where Austria is?
He is seeing the trade offer from them at the top right. The worst part about BICE is that the flags are really ugly.
Considering the baltics are still there, that could be Latvia
Greetings, fellow gamers! Today's Horse Lords dev diary is about Tributary states, Succession in Nomad realms and Dynamic Mercenaries... but let us start with Tributary states!
The Crusader Kings vassalage system has served us fairly well, but in our design discussions, we often return to the problem of "degree"; that is, what are the terms of the contract, exactly? How tight should the contract be in non-Feudal realms, etc. Various improvements have been suggested, such as a "vassalage strength" value (a bit similar to Crown Authority, but for each vassal.) However, most of these ideas stumble on their complexity and the required amount of micro-management. When we were talking about the Nomads of the steppes, though, we really needed a looser type of subordination than outright vassalage. That is why we decided to introduce the concept of Tributaries (which we originally conceived of as a Nomad-only power, but soon chose to make available to all rulers as long as you have the expansion.)

In Horse Lords, there are two new Casus Bellis related to Tributaries; "Make Tributary" and "Free Tributary" (doing exactly what they sound like.) On the map, the names of Tributary states are no longer shown, though they retain their own colors in the Realms map mode. Tributaries pay a monthly tax to their suzerain and cannot refuse the suzerain's call to wars. However, the suzerain is also expected to protect their tributaries. Apart from this, tributaries are still autonomous. A tributary can only have one suzerain (though the suzerain can be a regular vassal of another ruler's.) The tributary status ends on the death of either ruler, and tributaries can declare wars to free themselves, of course...
Now, let us return to the steppes and talk a bit about their unique form of succession... In reality, this was a complex matter that could be represented in many different ways, but since we already have various elective forms of succession, we decided to make it a bit less direct and more distinct (and no, it is not the horrible Ultimogeniture.:)) In short, among Nomads, the most prestigious son or brother inherits. Minors can inherit Clan rule, but not the tribal Khaganate. Prestige, you say? But isn't that a bit boring? Yes, the player should get some control over the choice of heir. That's why we are introducing the concept of Dynamic Mercenaries.

What you do, as a Nomad ruler, is send out your most promising sons and brothers to prove their mettle in the wide world. They will then take some of your Manpower and appear as a Mercenary Band, available for hire by rulers in the general region. As they earn money, the size of their regiment will increase. There are various new events for them as they experience adventures in the court of their employer, on distant battlefields, etc. You will receive notifications about the more significant escapades, and if you happen to be their employer, you are also likely to get some fascinating interactions. In general, dynamic mercenaries tend to increase their skills and gain Prestige, but it is, of course, also a dangerous life... The idea is to foster a strong heir by letting them prove their worth and gain enough Prestige to succeed you.

The system with dynamic mercenaries is currently locked to Nomads only, but it is very easy to mod and we are likely to expand on it in future expansions. That's all for now folks. Next week; the Silk Road and Raiding Adventurers!
No, in the trade flags
I think that's the Latvian flag.
It is the flag of Latvia
[t]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/41/Flag_of_Austria.svg/2000px-Flag_of_Austria.svg.png[/t]
You can understand the confusion though, since Black Ice apparently has all the flags run through the exhaust pipe of a tank before being unfurled
Yes the flags are pretty ugly, it's a minor thing however.
As for my game, Germany didn't give me the Molotov-Ribbentrop compact, they took Poland for their selves. As a Result I have to invade the Baltic states myself, I'd like to however keep Lithuania as a pro-communist neutral state to have a barrier between me and the Germans.
The game progressed pretty weird from there, the Italians were HIGHLY effective and took most of southern France before the Lowlands were even conquered and the Germans and Italians both eventually enveloped Paris. Austria wasn't annexed but instead joined the Axis. I was also having fun with my KGB spies sowing discontent among the workers in Japan and Nazi Germany.
[t]http://imgkk.com/i/drdn.jpg[/t]
As for Finland, I plan to invade Sweden to stop the flow of Metal to Germany and hopefully cripple their production.
Holy shit the Teutonic Order is so easy now, just ally Austria and you win the game, you have enough troops that once you get into the HRE you just steamroll Brandenburg & Pomerania, from there it doesn't even matter the world is yours.
So easy "now"?
They were easy before? They had far less troops and income before 1.12, and the provinces in eastern Germany were larger in value making expansion within the HRE a big pain because of the higher AE, 1.12 eastern Germany is full of small low-mid value provinces that you can take many of before AE becomes an issue.
Also theocracies have heirs now so they get an extra general too.
If you thought expanding was worse then then it's just as bad now, because now there's twice as much to take and you get a lot of negative relations and AE just annexing all these OPMs
I find it amusing that people act like Napoleon but then can't understand why the world is angry with them.
A recommended start for CK2 is playing as the Bavandids of Tabaristan in 769 or 867. The Bavandids is a cadet dynasty who claim descendance to a brother of a Sasanian emperor, goal is to seat yourself as the Shah of Persia and resurrect the Sasanian dynasty, claiming to be of the Sasanian dynasty. Fun and challenging playthrough.

So this happened for the first time today. I thought it was really neat, an event that calls back to a past war.
all you have to do it play it smart and don't go annexing several nations within a ten year time span.
To be honest this is pretty much how people should have been playing EUIV since it released. Play it smart and you've pretty well been able to annex any one you wanted. Anyone that thinks this game is or has even remotely hard just needs to play the game more and improve.

It really does come down to this. There are a few difficult countries to start with, but the vast majority are extremely easy if you have patience and secure good alliances.
