The only way you can improve provinces is through events which are pretty rare from what I've read
I've been trying to get into CK2 but I just find everything so overwhelming, even after playing the tutorial. I'll just be fast-forwarding through so much time, and not really doing much, other than licking my vassals' arses and trying to make people like me, whilst marrying off my daughters to wealthy people to try and nab bits of their land.
I tried going down the military route but it's not Total War-esque, you can't just stomp people with a good army. Any tips for a rookie trying to get into this really in-depth and seemingly fun game?

Start as an Irish kingdom in 1066+. Your small kingdom will develop organically allowing you to keep track of everything and get a bit invested.
I've always just played CKII as a numbers game, more men means more win, etc.

Is that how you're supposed to play it? I always thought CKII was a dating sim so I just try to seduce every baroness, countess, duchess, and queen from Brittany to Mongolia. And occasionally a relative.
It's good to be the king.

this is pretty wrong, its easy to smash stacks that are way bigger than you.
Army composition and commander stats make a huge difference, as well as terrain, as well as other bonuses, like pagan homeland defense and such.

you play it how you want
Even though I consider myself to at least be competent at EUIV, can I get some advice as to how I could really shine?
I need some clarification that I can't bother to look up because I dunno where to look so I'd have to browse so much Internet
Just some of the biggest differences among the games, like, CK2 being interpersonal, EUIV being international, Vic2 being economic(?) and HoI3 being whatever it is, stuff like that
I wish it was easier to make custom scenarios in Hearts of Iron 3.
I'd love to make an "Operation Downfall" scenario with Americans and Soviets racing to Tokyo

HoI series is a war game first and foremost.
It is why they don't have at 1933 starting date, no real mechanics for peace time outside of events.
Honestly I wish one could invent condoms in EUIV so you can get rid of these pathetic fucking 0/1/1 shit heirs.

HOI4 DD, it is about Italy

so is vic2 hard to learn? i learned EU4 pretty fast, but had trouble grasping ck2.
Woah what? I'm the Byzantine emperor and i pressed the strong claim on the kingdom of Italy that a guy i invited to my realm had. Gave him a couple titles and made him orthodox. My hopes was that he might be able to turn Italy orthodox or otherwise create some mayhem there to destabilize the kingdom to some degree. To my surprise i got to keep all of Italy as he became my vassal king after the war.
How did that happen? I thought he had to be of my dynasty, or i had to be de jure liege of the kingdom to keep it? I can only assume it's because my rank was higher than king, but it never told me this.
Anyway, had to do a excommunication of a minor patriarch of Italy and then the king of Italy himself to revoke the title without repurcussions. He gave me the perfect excuse to revoke the kingdom when he rebelled against his own imprisonment, hehehe. Poor sod got played hard.

Since you landed him and made him your vassal, he stayed a vassal even though he was now a king (Emperors can have king vassals). The requirements for keeping land you pressed another persons claim is being part of your dynasty OR is a vassal of yours and the title being at least one rank below your own (So if you are a king pressing a kingdom level claim, that will become independent, but since you were a Emperor the new king stayed your vassal).

Depends on how you're looking to play it. If you try play with the same mindset that works in EU4 it's probably going to seem a lot harder than it actually is.
I have CK2 and I'm thinking of buying EU4 on sale. What DLC's should I get and should i get the CK2 to EU4 converter on steam?

Can anybody do me a favor?
I'm working on a semi-overhaul mod using Historical Additions: Borders as a base, right now I'm adding the nation of Lamu in Kenya but there are no available flags. Could someone put this text in "لامو" on a light navy blue (RGB 31, 73, 125) background as a flag? Thanks in advance

I'd say its a really simple game once you've learned the basics. You have populations that you have to push into the right places and a pretty simple combat/diplomacy/economy system.

Perfect. Thanks, man.
So im having my craziest game right now and i just have to share this, so buckle up!
So i wanted to play as a Messalian nomad, so i started as khazaria. after conquering tribal peasant and making a sizable army i sent them to raid the nestorian provinces in the Abbasid realm. Took me about 1-2 years of pillaging until i found a nestorian woman which i made my concubine and converted asap.
After all my vassal nomads converted, i conquered armenia, after which started a peacefull rule while i tried to get the messalian heresy event with theology focus (spoiler: i didnt get it for 2 characters) after getting bored of doing nothing i invaded and conquered mesopotania and jerusalem from the abbasid, both to get land and because they are holy sites.
Since nestorian is a christian branch i could marry into almost every western family, so all my daughters were matrilineally married, alot went into francia (since charlemagne managed to make francia and keep the realm stable) and Italy (or lombardy as it was).
Getting bored with dicking around with still no heretic event i saw that the umayyads on the opposite side of the map had conquered the whole hispania, i said to myself "Why the fuck not?" so i subjugated them and settled down there. I granted independence to all my vassals that i kept from the east since i didnt want to have wars on both sides of the map. After fighting off some revolts with my 7k horse stack that i got from settling down, i managed to convince most of my muslim vassals to convert.
Now to my shock i discovered that somehow with my marriages my dynasty had control of both Italy AND francia with the nestorian religion, there began the dark ages for catholics, soon enough the whole western europe which once was catholics were now Nestorian and somehow the splitted nations of Britannia had first adopted fratically as their religion (which became the new big one) then after that Waldenesian.
After dicking around and conquering africa and Egypt i finally got the messalian heresy event and promptly began converting my realm, and as of now i finally with marriage got a messalian on the throne of Francia and Italy.
This post got pretty long but i had to share, also heres a picture of the religions in Europe as i said, this is my craziest game :excited:
Just got EU4 on the sale and played with my friend who has loads of experience with the game, He started out as England while I was Castille.
During the three hours I played, the game RNG gave me these:
0/0/0 king
top tier advisor dead one month after hiring
5/5/2 heir that got killed by an event.
Aragon popping out 40 units in one turn.
Columbus killed from an event in sea while on 1% attrition and ships on 80% hp.
RNGeesus please.
