So i watched HOI4 World War Wednesday today and i have to say i'm a bit dissapointed in the game. First off, the guy playing Germany defeated everyone way, way way too easily. Like fucking seriously? They started the war in like, what? Early 1940? A year and a half later, he took over Sweden, Finland, the whole Europe, including Switzerland, the Soviets, and are currently pushing into Turkey from the east. Without any help at all. And this was with Johan playing as the UK and actually putting up a fight in Sweden and France with the Franco British Union and everything. There doesn't seem to be a lot of penalities to movement or supplies as they can just move trough Siberia, and the arctic areas like northern Finland and Murmansk without any issues, something which was near impossible in HOI3. Oh and by the way, the Soviets lost only about 3 million men while Germany lost under a million. I really really hope they change something because it looks really unfun and easy. Then i don't like how the armies are made up now. All those army management, creating different HQs are gone. There don't seem to be a lot of special units and whatnot and the fact that they can just paradrop a unit into Berlin and take it over just like that disturbs me. I also don't like that there are a lot lot less provinces now. Why? There is already better planning and your units move automatically to places you designate and more so why the less provinces? There are also less province buildings, or you don't even have to build them like in HOI3. Not sure how that works but i haven't seem them build anything in any provinces. Plus the fact that everything has a fake look to it. All the general portraits are now 3D instead of real life pictures. I really liked that. Also there are a lot less generals and it's only historical ones now. I believe you need one general for an entire army or army group or something i'm not sure but yeah, i'm dissapointed in that as well. Right now Germany is attacking units in Turkey and Northern Finland with Guderian.
That's just Paradox these days, at least with CK2. It usually takes a patch or two (or three) before the game is unfucked.
I doubt they'll remove coalitions though.
I also don't like that there are a lot lot less provinces now. .
Pretty sure they confirmed there was a little more then HOI3. As for the rest of your post, they might have been playing on easy or something. The game is also still in alpha.
the fact that they can just paradrop a unit into Berlin and take it over just like that disturbs me.
You could do that in HOI3 :v:
I doubt they'll remove coalitions though.
Well making it so they can only happen between bordering countries and their immediate neighbors and allies would be a good start. Also need to make sure they form against big blobs more. Not sure how to fix shattered retreat. I think the old way was fine, but I can see why they would like it changed, mowing down the enemy army after winning the first battle by chasing them was too easy and rage inducing when AI did it to you. This makes wars a bit more complex but longer. They should definitely limit how far the armies can retreat. Even then it's unrealistic, maybe splitting the army and sending them to surrounding counties would be something that could work. The AI should also be able to judge better about when it stands no chance of winning, maybe surrender at 75% if the right conditions are met.
[t]https://i.imgur.com/IY3Nh6c.jpg[/t] Can't wait to buy a DLC to fix this! [editline]3rd February 2016[/editline]
3. No, the Pope won't defend the Abbasids if you decide to Holy War them. Even if the Abbasids and the Pope is in the same coalition against you, they won't necessarily join wars declared on each other. CB's marked as 'Holy' will not incur the wrath of your coreligionists, this most notably applies to the common 'Holy War' CB.
"Quality is a buzzword" - Paradox
fuck Zillamaster sniped me by 2 minutes.
Coalitions and Infamy in CkII Requiring all DLC to even enjoy/stand a chance in games again Paradox is really losing me here.
guys paradox are great developers why do you hate them so much like they're being SO GENEROUS with that obviously not broken patch!!!! you should just buy the dlcs and shut up like a real man!!!! [editline]4th February 2016[/editline] glad to see the steam reviews aren't just blindly sucking paradox's dick. they've fucked up REALLY badly this time.
have you ever wanted to pay £11 so that the raj of hindustan, the abbasid caliphate, the emperor of mali and a random high chief in finland go to war with you for taking over england as william the conqueror? buy this dlc!

How on Earth are you not ranked 1st (my guess is Austria)? Who was? The score/rank system continues to baffle me.
Probably France since being at #1 always gives the same amount of points. Its not how great you are, its how long you've been great.
The DLC itself is nice. Child Education, Council mechanics and creating actual merc companies that have more than 15 people in it (Im looking at you Horse Lords) are all good features. Worth 15 dollars? Nah. But by itself its an okay dlc. They bundled all the questionable and outright terrible changes in the free patch.
How is it that armies can be so demoralized by a defeat that they force march themselves thousands of miles away from the battle after losing? Shattered retreats are stupid. Going a province or two may make sense, but making them invincible as they run and make them go 7-8 provinces across the map is a pain in the ass as a defender as much as an attacker. I can't make a fast regroup when I'm defending and I can't chase down and corner the enemy to finish them once and for all if I win the battle. Yet to deal with coalitions or infamy yet.
In case some of you didn't know you can disable shattered retreats and coalitions in your common/defines.lua.
LEAVE_COALITION_INTERACTION_ENABLED = START_COALITION_INTERACTION_ENABLED = SHATTERED_RETREAT_ENABLED_COMBAT
Change these variables to 0 and I think it'll essentially remove the features. Haven't done it myself though so I don't know if it works but it probably will. its kinda funny seeing you guys cry about it (admittedly i'd probably do the same :vs:), maybe i'm just used to it in EU4's though
I was afraid it was hardcoded
Conclave: the near future
Too little, too late. These were the exact concerns of people when the feature was announced, and surprise surprise guess who was right.
In a shocking turn of events coalitions in CKII are a terrible addition, in other news the sky is blue and Paradox is still overcharging for what are essentially medium sized content patches.
https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/index.php?threads/moving-on-to-other-projects.906344/ wiz is gonna work on stellaris in the mean time and then move on another project within paradox after that. gsg was speculating either vick3, which is probably unlikely given that it was apparently never the most successful series they had. I always remember the stories that there was a bet among devs if it sold well a dev would shave his head or something, and eu rome which wiz is more popularly known for making a overhaul mod for i'd be kind of surprised if it's vick3 actually. They wouldn't really have any other choice but to rework the economy altogether since the guy who coded it left the company ages ago. If they do that, which they will, it'd probably be for the best given how much of a clunky mess it was but it'd also mean they're simplify it too much. And then there's the whole casualizing thing Paradox loves to do with their recent titles and the inevitable barrage of dlc it'd have. Though the same can very well be said for a eu rome 2 as well just as much. could very well be something altogether though. I remember when HOI4 and that other cancelled title were still under as project reagan and augustus, johan had said in one of the project reagan or augutus threads that a EU: Rome game wouldn't happen in the near future but it would definitively happen, but that was around c.2012-2014 so plans might've changed by now.

If your capital doesn't have one you deserve it tbh
So does anyone know if norse cant make a mercanery company? im reformed and all that stuff, but i theres no button on people to start a company like there is when im christian...

Shame they cancelled it or put it on hold? I can't remember.
East vs West was pretty cool. Shame they cancelled it or put it on hold? I can't remember.
It was outright Cancelled because the dev team kept missing deadlines and delivering subpar stuff. The Beta/alpha was leaked a couple months after the cancellation.
Your link just goes to GGD.
Wait how the fuck [editline]5th February 2016[/editline] Fixed
If I got into EU4 what are some must have DLCs? I tried the trial and the way war and infrastructure works kind of sucks imo, probably because CKII spoiled me.
(Btw, Coalitions were primarily added to make the game more challenging for huge, aggressively expanding player realms. That intention should serve as the primary measuring stick for the system.)
Paradox... the internal struggle should be the limiter here. [editline]5th February 2016[/editline] -Distance from capital factored into rebelliousness -Different cultures more rebellious -Populations more rebellious when lord is different culture -Less tax efficiency from being larger, etc
If I got into EU4 what are some must have DLCs? I tried the trial and the way war and infrastructure works kind of sucks imo, probably because CKII spoiled me.
Common sense is almost literally essential, as not having it locks you out of a significant aspect of the game while the AI can go ham. Art of war is great, as is wealth of nations. Res publica is a must have if you are going to play republics, doubly so for the dutch. El Dorado and Conquest of paradise if you want to be a colonialist I guess, but it really isn't essential, and I doubt you'll really want to play as the natives. I liked what the cossacks added, but it isn't needed. Up to you
