I know in previous games leaders gave certain bonuses, but did it really affect the AI?

Stay in the HRE as long as you can. You'll just have to put up with the unlawful territory modifier.

You could get some desired effects with events but it was pretty narrow.

Pretty hyped for Stellaris. Looks to be the space strategy game i've always wanted. A more fleshed out and better, more accessible version of Distant Worlds Universe, with fucking multiplayer and moddability. And it comes out on the 9th of May? Damn, that's like almost here.

You know what would be really cool to see? The map projected over a proper globe instead. It wouldnt have to be any grander in gameplay scale, but everything would look huuuuuuge. Imagine zooming down on your explorer in the middle of the pacific, and all you can see is sea.

They've never ruled out a globe at some point IIRC, but they've say they'd need to make a whole new engine for it.

If so, I did. I played a Merchant Republic that worshipped the Almighty Dollar and was based out of New York. Was pretty fun.
