Those DLCs aren't even produced by the main Paradox team lol, but by a small indie company called Paradox south who support paradox by producing music, unit sprites and ck2 portrait dlcs. And when it's priced at the cost of a chocolate bar I can hardly complain...
Thats irrelevant to my point and beyond that, something I think is worthless. I dont give a shit about Paradox south. I guess you dont complain about much else considering your bar is set so low you see no problem with a part of a DLC being split and sold separately just because its cheap, which is false when you add all that shit up. Horse Lords content pack alone is seven dollars. Thats not a chocolate bar.
At least it isn't as bad as PayDay 2 :v:
At least it isn't as bad as PayDay 2 :v:
It actually costs less to get all of PD2's DLC than it does EUIV's, which surprises me. I was honestly expecting all of PD2's extra content to add up to a lot higher cost.
Well EU4 has less but higher priced DLC
HOI4, even the AI has battle plans, and you can see ally battle plans so you can also plan accordingly. That is pretty cool. Showed it off in today's stream https://www.twitch.tv/paradoxinteractive/v/61739505?t=16m07s
CK2/EU4 are really only expensive if want to buy them now. If you started with CK2 from the beginning it wasn't that bad until they started releasing DLC more frequently. There was enough time between the big ones. [editline]19th April 2016[/editline] CK2/EU4 DLC usually gets really cheap during steam sales
This is a big one. If you just buy the DLC's as they come out, it's not a terrible expense at all. I'd much rather the current system. As it used to be, I'd see a game never get another expansion or anything and just be dissapointed at the lost potential. Games like CK2, at least, I can feel are getting pushed to their greatest extent.
The old system was terrible. You'll be locked out of patches unless you paid for insanely overpriced (£25) expansion packs, you also couldn't play MP if everyone didn't have all the packs the host had.

I don't know what they were charging in the UK but you could get the expansions for EUIII for $10, even less if you waited until the complete/chronicles came out. HTT might have been $15 when it came out but that's been a while so I don't remember entierly, either way I'm sure it was never $25 for an expansion. The only difference between the "new" system and the "old" one is not requiring the DLC to play with people online. Vicky II is the only one that charged $20 for an expansion, and that's just one of them.
Well UK Steam pricing isn't really that fair.
Well UK Steam pricing isn't really that fair.
According to this https://www.steamprices.com/uk/app/25808/europa-universalis-iii-divine-wind DW is £ 7.99 and I can't find any evidence of that price ever having changed outside of sales. Granted that could be different for the UK store but every pricing I can find on the UK store only comes out to a few USD more than the US store, I have my doubts that they pay over double for somethings. The only real improvement is not locking you out of patches and the multiplayer benefit, in pricing they've taken a step back besides apparently making plenty of money before.

They planned on making Fabricate Claims a tech unlock in EU4 in the next big patch, but they put it to a community vote and a vast majority said no, so they're not.
Oh my fucking god if they did that I'd have 0 incentive to play ever again. Does Paradox just change shit for the hell of it, instead of actually trying to improve the game??
They planned on making Fabricate Claims a tech unlock in EU4 in the next big patch, but they put it to a community vote and a vast majority said no, so they're not.
That was probably going to be one of their biggest mistakes. Thank god that they chose not to

In fact that's literally the exact pricing used on Art of War.
Oh my fucking god if they did that I'd have 0 incentive to play ever again. Anyone who was doing the HOI4 referral for a beta invite, they've started going out. I think it was 5 people?

I'm glad they're doing this for all their games now, maybe EU4 will get the same treatment with loading assets on demand and better scripting.

I needed a break from the Stellaris crunch, so here’s an unscheduled dev diary! All the hubbub about Defensive Pacts and Shattered Retreats got me thinking about an old ambition I’ve had to improve the game set-up screens in order to allow players to customize their experience without having to resort to modding. The idea is inspired by games like Civilization and the Second Wave DLC for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which allow players to change various advanced options and settings for a different experience in the game. I really like such options and typically make good use of them myself. Now, of course there is such a thing as “the way the game was meant to be played”. That is, how the designers made the game and like to play it themselves. However, variety is the spice of life, and after 11 Crusader Kings II expansions things are not as clear-cut anymore. It’s actually pretty funny that I’ve been using a small personal mod for CK2 for awhile myself. There are some downsides to modding and using mods though: It requires awareness that it’s possible, and where to find existing mods. The modding scene is a jungle. It takes a modicum of extra effort and skill. It might not feel quite legitimate (it can feel a bit like cheating) and you might not get any Achievements. Mods typically do not have the same level of support as the base game. Many become fossilized or are otherwise problematic. For these reasons especially, I think that adding a bunch of Paradox-approved, fully supported in-game rule variations is a good idea. Thus, when you start a new game, you are now presented with several interesting options. Most of them are simple flavor variations, but some are more fundamental and will disable Achievements in Ironman mode. Here’s the list of options we are currently showing in the new screen (still a work in progress though): Sandbox vs Ironman Shattered Retreats: On/Off Defensive Pacts: On/Off Gender Equality: Default/Historical/All/Players Sunset Invasion: 13th Century/Random/Off Mongol Invasion: Historical/Random/Off Raiding: Historical/Unrestricted/None Epidemics: Dynamic/Historical/Deadly “Supernatural” Events: On/Off Adventurers: Normal/Rare/None Provincial Revolts: Normal/Rare/None Regencies: On/Off De Jure Drift: Default/Restricted/Off Dynamic Kingdoms and Empires: On/Off Diplomatic Range: On/Off Bolded options disable Achievements. Our new rule system is itself fully moddable, so that modders can use the same system with pretty much any options they might want! I look forward to your thoughts and comments. Are there any rule variations you think we’ve missed, or that you would really like to see?
Great, more ways to not get achievements. [editline]26th April 2016[/editline] Because some of those options, especially the defensive pacts one, are really nice
So I could turn off the Mongol Invasions? Neet [editline]26th April 2016[/editline] Because, honestly, if you roflstomped your way across the steppes as the Russians and then it's like "OH NO SPOOKY MONGOLS" And you just beat their fucking skulls in Defeats the purpose, imo
I like the idea of random invasion times
Holy shit. Looks like they'll be adding the black death!
I thought the black plague was already ingame?
flanders.
Yeah The Plague has been in the game for quite some time.
They've needed the ability to enable/disable specific things for a while. Missing out on achievements is hardly a penalty since they already required ironman anyways.
