I could swear I've played game demos that don't really let you get full access to graphics options though
I don't know if it's just a thing demos these days do on PC, as the last time I remember playing a demo was all the way back on the PS3. It still seems kinda dumb though as you can't use the demo to benchmark the game, but for a kickstarter only alpha demo I don't think it's that big of a deal.
Right, NOW they're funded. Kewl. Now we just need to get through some stretch goals yeaaa
Is this all there is to the demo? I mean it's pretty but...
I get the impression that the devs don't have much of a sense of direction other than the theme. I hope that they'll put the kickstarter funds towards finding one because this has so much potential and I'd hate to see it fail.
Is this all there is to the demo? I mean it's pretty but...
nah there's more shooting the further into the demo you get i mean it's never gonna become like a full on shooter but there's still more to it than just walkin about. Still ultimately a slow paced game centered around the atmosphere overall. If that's not your thing then yea I woudn't pick it up.
Just played through the demo myself. Some of the navigational puzzles were a bit obtuse but shooting is satisfying and the enemy dynamics are already quite nice. I missed the head of one of the cronenbergs and shot its leg off, it started to pathetically limp to a corner leaving a huge trail of blood behind it and it stayed hidden waiting for death without trying to attack me further.
also shout-outs to that consistent ragdoll bug where if you shoot the head off that first crawler before he gets up his neck stump just spins around endlessly i got it to spin even faster once by doing it mid-twitch animation, but sadly wasn't recording. A++
I still haven't received a key :(
Right, NOW they're funded. Kewl. Now we just need to get through some stretch goals yeaaa
We did it reddit
Decided to take the plunge and make my first pledge on kickstarter. Got Tier 4 as I need that artbook, oh and kinda looking forward to the game.
First stretch goal is DOWN and the VR level is IN (told you so). Tho hitting the 2nd one is seeming pretty damn iffy at this point. There's just 3 days left to back it so be sure to spread the word on it. I want that 2nd stretch goal ffs. ALSO they added a Paypal option, sorta. It's off some weird website I've never heard of but whatever, if you're still looking to back it over Paypal, go here https://www.brightlocker.com/games/scorn-part-1-of-2-dasein
Dumb question but is there a way to heal in this game? Or do I just have to get good and not get hit? Edit: I either keep dying because of mouse related problems or my game crashes. But holy shit this game is literally making my jaw drop.
They revealed silhouettes of the two stretch goal monsters. They're 10k away from reaching the goal with about 7 hours to go, so it's gonna be close. Go back it tia
So are those things just not going to be in the game? Or will they be added later?
So are those things just not going to be in the game? Or will they be added later?
The goal is for them to be added into the game period. If they don't reach the goal then it doesn't happen because they won't have the extra funding needed to allocate resources to create two new enemies and create areas for them to reside in. Tho the devs have said they'll have an internal discussion over perhaps just picking one of them to add if they don't reach the stretch goal because of just how close we are. We'll see.
put in a tier 2 pledge :)
Eyyy and it's funded! no clue what the final tally is since that kickstarter figure doesn't factor in all the legions of incomplete transactions that will now have a week to be fixed or be thrown out. And also who knows what the paypal donation total was as well (even the devs don't know lol that site they're using seems kinda shite). But hey SECOND TIMES A CHARM, IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING
looks like they're gonna attempt to do the next stretch goal anyways. awesome.
Not sure why they thought putting VR before two new enemy types on the stretch goals was a good idea, like I reckon most people, even VR users, would be interested in an extra two enemy types, my friend who has a Vive said that same thing.
Not sure why they thought putting VR before two new enemy types on the stretch goals was a good idea, like I reckon most people, even VR users, would be interested in an extra two enemy types, my friend who has a Vive said that same thing.
the dev answered that on the comments page
Nildenosaj: I do not understand why a VR level is the first stretch goal. The other stretch goals are relevant to everyone who buys the game regardless of platform. VR is a dead market limited to a minority of connoisseurs who bought expensive equipment. I doubt even a handful of backers are VR connoisseurs, so that stretch goal is unfair to us. A: i think exactly the same. The first stretch goal should be more content (level, enemies, etc.) @Nildenosaj and @A - We understand that there are not many people with VR gear, but we got a lot of questions about Scorn having VR support. And as I said before we arranged the stretch goals by their cost and difficulty. Scorn isn't a game where we can easily add content, and unlike RPGs and multiplayer games, it's pretty costly to implement new stuff that means something to people. So VR level is just one step in the way, as adding new content would require us to add more team members. Although it may seem similar, VR level is easier to make than making new levels, weapons, and enemies simply because the high level of details and careful design is something that's a must for Scorn. Navagon:Would the VR level be accessible as a part of the main game or VR only? If it's not VR only then that should be mentioned as it's a selling point. If it is VR only then probably better off further up the stretch goal list as it doesn't have wide enough appeal at this point in time. @Navagon - VR level will be a part of the main game. We won't be moving it further up the stretch goal list as that wouldn't be fairly priced. Think of the stretch goal money as wages for the additional team members. We need fewer people for VR level than we need for content, but people who will work on VR level could also work on new content. Josepi Luaga:I don't want to seem like a lemming but I have to agree with Nildenosaj on the stance of the VR but I would not be surprised if we get to 250 in the end. People seem to really be embracing this game in a big way. Ultimately, I think it'll be fantastic. Missing avatar Josue Martinez Fernandez: It is their game so they can do whatever they want. I don't have a VR myself but if I had, I would really really like to try this game with it. Given the fact that this game is all about inmersion and 1st person exploration I can see why devs would like to develop a VR level for the game, so your comment is unfair to those people who got a VR. I would also like to see another 1st stretch goal... but I'm ok with their decision (......and if I ever get a VR set I will surely play it!) @Josue Martinez Fernandez and @Josepi Luaga - Another option we could go with here is to remove the VR stretch goal completely, but we couldn't move others lower, due to reasons mentioned above. EraserSK: Two additional enemy types will be developed and added to the game. Maybe this one should be first stretch goal... VR level is (for me) demotivation. 12 000 € to reach goal is doable but i think next stretch goal is near unreachable. Think about it... @EraserSK - We've arranged the stretch goals by their cost and difficulty, and we don't want to overreach. If we're to just swap the two we'd be spending more time on developing and implementing additional enemies and would need more staff than we would need for VR level. For example, we would need additional programming and art for VR level, but we would need both plus more animations and level design for more enemies. So, enemies would require a bigger team than VR level, but the upgrade would be smaller if we already upgraded the team for VR level. Let's say we need additional programmer and artist for VR level, but for enemies we would need another artist in addition to the two.
tl;dr: making a vr level is way easier than making new enemies and places to put the new enemies in. the new enemies stretch goal was always gonna be that price point regardless of the vr goal since it requires making loads more brand new content from scratch this kickstarter was all about just polishing the game they've already made. stretch goals for brand new stuff would be a pretty big deal i guess.
"VR is a dead market" lmao is that why its expanding rapidly
Yeah Kickstarter comments can be just as braindead as youtube comments, if not more so since the people making them tend to carry an attitude of great self-importance now that they've given out a few bucks. So many 'DO WHAT I SAY OR I TAKE BACK MY MONEY' comments. My favorite is the guy that replied to the scorn kickstarter news post that was announcing the campaign was over to say that if the devs don't add key mapping to the demo he'd stop backing the game, seemingly oblivious to the fact his money was already in the devs hands lol...
