There's nothing to talk about
There's nothing to talk about
Well, that's true.
Well, that's true.
Not quite! *clears throat* "That's neat!" There ya go.
I'm honestly hoping Overwatch uses a fair freemium business model. Maybe have a character rotation for people that don't buy it and $40 to get access to all characters and premium servers that free account holders can't access.

that's why i said premium servers, if you don't want to experience the free character rotation prevalence then go in one of those.
Ugh, I know this payment model is dead but i'd love to just BUY IT ONCE and have it forever with hardly any additional transactions besides dank pallete swaps, please no hats.
Is buying heroes confirmed? I'd rather it just be cosmetics.
Is buying heroes confirmed? I'd rather it just be cosmetics.
I certainly hope they aren't, If I have to pay £7.99 just so I can play as a small turret build man I think I might lose all hope in blizzard.
Ugh, I know this payment model is dead but i'd love to just BUY IT ONCE and have it forever with hardly any additional transactions besides dank pallete swaps, please no hats.
Personally I find dank palettes swaps to be more obnoxious than a well made hat. Hats can fit the art style and aesthetic of a character so long as you ensure a reasonable level of quality whereas palette swaps by definition are messing with the colour balance of a character and practically need to be obnoxious or unfitting for players to actually buy them. And if Overwatch wishes to be a long term project, it will likely need some level of micro transactions.

And there are plenty of good pallet swaps that don't mess with color balance. And it's not like color plays a role in team identification in Overwatch. Still, if Heroes is any indication, I'd wager we'll be getting full skins, not pallet swaps.
No thanks. Rotations suck ass.
Then buy it. These things aren't mutually exclusive.
Then buy it. These things aren't mutually exclusive.
But then teams full of the free classes and no one else. Premium-only servers don't cut it either, that's splitting up your community, which is bad juju. Worse than having to purchase maps. edit: I really hate the F2P game craze, because so few devs can do it right. No purchasing anything that affects gameplay in a multiplayer vs. game, no pay2win, no gameplay restrictions. I want either free with cosmetics and stuff like buying a gun instead of waiting for it to randomly drop, or to just pay for the damned game and be done with it.
Then buy it. These things aren't mutually exclusive.
Premium servers just seem like a way to split up communities. For instance, paid map packs have done this in games for ages, it's NEVER a good idea. Ideally, the best way is to have all classes unlocked and monetize off cosmetics, but this will probably not be the case. I imagine we'll have to put up with the same rotation bullshit and it'll have the same problem where every week you get 80% of people all using the same classes...
it's pretty obvious they'll do it exactly the same as their moba, free rotation, buy guys with credits/real money, real money only cosmetics (probably skins)
it's pretty obvious they'll do it exactly the same as their moba, free rotation, buy guys with credits/real money, real money only cosmetics (probably skins)
If they do then they're fucking assholes.
If they do then they're fucking assholes.
Cosmetics is the best F2P policy possible.
Cosmetics is the best F2P policy possible.
I'm talking about character rotation. In a game as varied as Overwatch it helps to be able to test out every class to see which playstyle is best for you, with a rotation system you can only try a few per week.
Cosmetics is the best F2P policy possible.
I DARE hats to ruin my perfect character designs/silhouettes. Can you imagine Zenyatta wearing a bowler?
I DARE hats to ruin my perfect character designs/silhouettes. Can you imagine Zenyatta wearing a bowler?
But she doesn't have to wear a bowler. She could just as easily wear a little Russian army cap, or an Overwatch medal, or something that actually fits. Cosmetics doesn't mean you have to go down TF2's path of ridiculous cosmetics all over the place, you could easily make a cosmetic that's just "Sergeant Shooterman wears a grey shirt instead of a white one!" and people would buy it.
But she doesn't have to wear a bowler. She could just as easily wear a little Russian army cap, or an Overwatch medal, or something that actually fits.
You're thinking of Zarya. <- That's Zenyatta :v:
I DARE hats to ruin my perfect character designs/silhouettes. Can you imagine Zenyatta wearing a bowler?
Hats =/= Silly Hats. You're being biased.
I DARE hats to ruin my perfect character designs/silhouettes. Can you imagine Zenyatta wearing a bowler?
The character designs are already atrocious, overdesigned messes with no sense of focus, contrast or economy. That's why the characters have names and healthbars floating in the HUD: if they didn't, you wouldn't have a clue who was who at a distance, or what team they were on, assuming you could even make them out against the noisy, cluttered backdrops and bloomy particle effects. At that point you might as well let people wear whatever gaudy extras they want - it's not like anyone will notice anyway.
Gonna have to slightly disagree. The designs are different enough. You will never confuse Reaper for Tracer and if you do, that's a problem on your own end.
I do agree that they need some team markers like lights or something but aside from that the characters are very different from one another.
What the characters lack in silhouette diversity they make up for in animation and color palette diversity. you're going to identify who you're up against 99% of the time in engagements.

The only thing actually bothering me is that there are HP bars over the enemies. There needs to be a more elegant way to make enemies appear different than players on your own team. The problem is that flashy HP bars can reveal too much of you or reveal you too soon. I think an outline around your teammates which can be seen through walls but not around enemies would be nice. The lack of that outline should be enough to distinguish enemies from team mates. And you're actually looking for the enemy player model then and not just below an HP bar.
