Looks generic.
It's a bit like TF2 with abilities and more focus on verticality in the gameplay. I don't like how all over the place the character design is.
The maps don't look that more vertical from TF2, it's just that more characters can easily traverse terrain. That actually makes the gameplay less vertical as height advantage matters less since it's easier to overcome. That's kinda the general theme here, the ruleset is much more loose than that of TF2. The difference between heroes in Overwatch and classes in TF2 is not only lexical. Heroes have their abilities and try to make the best use of them for combat, classes have a designated role and use specific arsenal allowing them to do their intended job most effectively.
So is there any info on the guy that looks like Twisted Fate in a Graves costume?
*First person - teambased FPS.
As opposed to... third person FPS?
So is there any info on the guy that looks like Twisted Fate in a Graves costume?
I'm assuming you are talking about the cowboy guy, so no, there isnt any info rigth now
the character roster tries to cater to everyone so it completely lacks any originality. The gameplay looks easy and I think you could compare it more to a moba than to something like tf2, it looks like the game doesn't require twitch reflexes and deep understanding of your class' role and that you instead will use powerful abilities or ganking to take down opponents.
The fact that people seem to need games to be twitch shooters to consider them skilful is fucking depressing. Apparently using your brain for more than reflex shooting isn't a skill.

The addition of shields can make you shine if you have great reflexes, and they can easily counter some of the more powerful abilities.

Wouldnt a game catering only to a single sex/race/nationality/age be incredibly incredibly dull?
I agree with sentiments from another thread, shields will slow the game down. Paired with seemingly ridiculously OP abilities, it will result in binary gameplay. You either spawn a shield and never die or absorb OP attacks and die instantly.
More variety makes it easier to identify people, especially in team based games that have abilities like this. "oh shit the sniper chick, watch out" "oh look a generic white guy in a uniform, what the fuck does he have oh god that's a sniper now im dead" [editline]8th November 2014[/editline]
I agree with sentiments from another thread, shields will slow the game down. I'm not sure about the hemisphere shields but a well placed rocket/arrow/teleport can bring down someone with a shield. They'll eventually balance the game out, probably. Thankfully there is a beta.

Once Valve adds a weapon, it never gets taken out, even if it really needs to go. There seems to be multiple missteps of this type in this game, but then again, it might work in this context. Not holding my breath though.
Like I'm not talking about that, rather that the character designs seem completely all over the place. They don't even look like they are from the same game.
The only character who feels out of place is the reaper and maybe the samurai. Most of them have a common theme (space, spandex, and metal)
imo they look easily coherent enough they're all robotic or aug'd up in some way
I think this looks interesting. I'm looking forward to trying it. Too bad a lot of people nowadays seem so fast on throwing shit on every single new IP instead of giving it a chance and trying it out. For example, saw a comment that said "This looks like TF2 for the cod kiddies". Like, who even gives a fuck? It's another game, enjoy or don't. I for one really like the character designs and animations.

Also interesting fact apparently this game was going to be the PVP of titan Sorry for the Kotaku link http://kotaku.com/blizzard-announces-overwatch-1656048978
Overwatch is a reworked version of the PVP portions of Blizzard's Titan, the long-in-development MMO that was overhauled in mid-2013. Despite reports earlier this year that Titan had been cancelled, the game actually morphed into Overwatch last year, according to a person familiar with the project. It looks like they've kept at least one of Titan's class names—Reaper—which we reported on last month.
Interesting to see how much a game can change.
For the cod kiddies? What the fuck is that guy talking about?
No idea. Either a troll or an idiot.
Found some higher quality image stuff, so Moar Tracer [t]http://i.imgur.com/wOK45WP.png[/t] and for anyone interested here is the link i took the stocks from.
The cinematic trailer makes me wish this was an animated movie rather than a game. The idea is perfect: two boys swept across the globe with a merry band of misfits to fight the forces of darkness. The game looks fun and I love all the character designs.
My favourite design has to be Reinhardt's [T]http://i.imgur.com/9cxqGq7.png[/T] Just look how badass he looks
I wish Hanzo's character design was more interesting, cause he looks quite fun to play.
My favourite design has to be Reinhardt's [T]http://i.imgur.com/9cxqGq7.png[/T] Just look how badass he looks
He's also 61 years old.
Can someone explain to me what the fuck the monk does
A Buddhist robot that levitates and attacks with mechanical prayer beads. I think I'm in love. But knowing Blizzard they'll find a way to soil this with their 'pricing models' and such.
I wish Hanzo's character design was more interesting
I like his design actually. Simple, streamlined, and it gets the point across that he's a Japanese dude. The ink on his left arm is a nice touch.

The ink on his left arm is a nice touch.
Yeah visually he looks nice (that's not saying much though, all the characters are at least visually interesting), but his character doesn't seem to be anything more than the "honourable Japanese fighter" archetype, I just wish he was more interesting character-wise.

i have a feeling if they release additional characters down the line that they will make them pay to unlock, especially if its f2p. i wouldn't even doubt if half of the starting roster was pay to unlock if it is f2p.
He has some technology stuff on him :v:
Yeah and? What point are you trying to make, cause the fact that he uses technology (in a game set in future, wow surprising) doesn't change the fact that his character is boring.
The idea is perfect: two boys swept across the globe with a merry band of misfits to fight the forces of darkness.
Y'know, that kinda sounds like Rise of the Guardians, pretty similar premise with a young boy (Jack Frost) joining up with a band of childhood icons (Santa, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy and the Sandman) to fight the darkness. Also Reinhardt's hammer has rocket boosters on it. That is pretty fucking metal.
Is there any information on the Grey Fox looking sword guy? He's on the team artwork, but theres no more details about him anywhere on the website. Could have possibly been a character they removed at some point?
just showed some friends both trailers I convinced them it was from disney pixar but they were more angry that it was similar to tf2
