Overwatch - The world needs heroes, and Blizzard needs a TF2 game!

all these gullible people not seeing the blatant free advertising blizzard is doing
the game is 100% going open "beta" before this year ends with a cash shop and whatever else, with minimal or no changes
I never understood devs who did that, the game is already advertised plenty and everyone is hyped as shit. IMO it only makes the game look bad when most of the invites are given to streamers who have viewer quantity over gameplay quality and just look like they never played a FPS before.
If you want actual feedback then get proper candidates instead of lying about your selection system and then rig it to accept mostly popular streamers.

Blizzard's never done that before, but I'm sure they'll start now because a guy on Facepunch said so with no evidence except a subreddit full of jealous whiny 13 year olds.

Heroes of the Storm.
At this point i'm wondering why the fuck Blizzard even announced the closed beta if they're just using it to build hype using youtubers and streamers. It's just making people upset.

That still doesn't change the fact they announced a closed beta for everyone, and yet they only gave keys to streamers.
Blizzard's still at fault for that.
They could give it to 30 streamers and 3000 average joes, and you'd still hear more about the streamers.
And I imagine that's actually part of the reason that they prioritised streamers. Would you rather they gave it exclusively to randoms and Overwatch goes completely silent again for the uninitiated? This way we can at least see the game in action.
And don't tell me they should have made it open beta, Facepunch is at the forefront of whining about early access.

Heroes of the Storm at the beginning of the beta is a completely unrecognizable game. It's like they took the art assets, scrapped everything else and rebuilt the game from scratch.
Same thing with Hearthstone, most cards were changed drastically along with game mechanics. I played the game from day one of beta and then stopped a couple weeks in and then got the game when it came out and it was really like playing a different game entirely.

Day one? Sure. But when they gave you the option to buy into the beta for $40, the game was effectively the same as on launch.
All making a closed beta and giving keys to random people is doing is making me get burned out watching it.
And I can't not watch it because it's Overwatch and it's hype.

They will be sending out additional waves of invites over time, so I don't think the hype will die off since I'm certain that a lot of people will be anticipating their own invite despite not being in the initial wave. Plus didn't they talk about weekend stress tests?

It's pretty silly to just dismiss every opposing argument by generalizing everyone as a whole, yes some people can be unreasonable but others do bring valid points. Personally I don't care much about not getting an invite, it's mostly about the fact that they lied about their method and selectively sent out invites to people based on their popularity. Yes prioritizing streamers is an attempt at hyping the game even further, yes it's their game and they can do whatever they want with it, but that doesn't mean people who think the game is already hyped enough as it is and that their method was unfair are wrong.
Everybody's hype just turned into salt
I don't get the point of hyping up a beta then only letting like 1000 people in, 900 of which are streamers and popular cool kids

I'm not talking about hype, I'm talking about being able to see the game in action. Being able to see actual raw gameplay is a good thing as far as I am concerned.
Streamers getting the game allows developers and consumers to see how the game plays and it does not, contrary to apparent belief, mean they exclusively gave the game to streamers. There are actually numerous examples of non-streamers getting the game, they just didn't give it to everybody.
But nobody pays any attention to non-streamers that got the game because, unlike streamers, they don't heavily document their gameplay. They just play the game.
So, as I said before, they could give beta invites to 30 streamers and 3000 total randoms, and you'd still hear more about the streamers, and people would still be kicking up a fuss unless they happened to be one of the randoms.

I could care less about servers in a beta as long as I got to play.
Also have bonus salt. Sodapoppin didn't get in and is having a rampage.

@gypsyquick ready for a truthbomb? I have 1 million followers and played wow for over 6 years on stream. Yes I do/should feel entitled.
Well if you're gonna release a limited amount of keys for stress testing/bug fixing/calibrations, makes sense that you'd prioritize streamers and youtubers first. You can fix issues AND get free publicity at the same time, sounds like a pretty obvious choice to me.
And people that whine about not getting keys are gonna whine regardless, either it's internet cool kids getting first dibs, or it's not enough keys sent out, or it's some variant of "some kid who signed up a week ago gets a key, I've been a Blizzard fan before I was even born and I didn't get jack shit." People will complain about anything really.
I actually don't really mind not being a part of the beta, since it was announced to be a closed Beta from the very beginning.
I myself am hyped too, but i got the patience for the game to be changed for the best gameplay upon ist release.
A closed beta isn't a bad idea either, better overview of the Player base and better Feedback. An open beta would just mean 90% of Players participating just to play the game as soon as possible and very few People actually giving constructive Feedback and not crying for nerfs/buffs. It also minimizes bad publicity and exaggregated gameplay tweaking. Just think about the shitstorm When Dirty Bomb introduced Phantom.

While reading this thread I was laughing how so many people think that every streamer automatically got an invite, when sodapopping, one of the biggest streams out there, didn't get one.
I know a couple of other bigger ones that still get like 1k+ views and didn't get one either.
Although I'm more surprised that Sodapoppin isn't able to get an account with the beta from somebody. What an entitled crybaby he is.
Overall this kinda seems like the Heroes of the Storm beta went, people went apeshit over invites and stuff. :v:

Don't worry, you are not disqualified.
But you will never get into the beta anyway.
Neither will I.

Is this everyone's first Blizzard beta? They've always done it like this and its how real betas are meant to be done, its not for you to play the game and pretend its out its for them to get the info that they need from the people in the beta, maybe everyone's getting spoilt by devs releasing unfinished games in beta open to everyone for around a year before they're actually done but popular streamers are in contact with blizzard and will actually report bugs and be streaming them live so that they have video proof of anything going on that might fuck up, and also advertsie the game for free. I have NO idea why people are acting so entitled because "I played another game for years and I want this one >:("
im excited for robo cowboy man
