I hope they never put hats or skins or anything in Everything is so simple now I don't want them to ruin it with bullshit trading and economy stuff
If it's gonna be Free 2 Play you can guarantee there's gonna be skins. However, Blizzard has fantastic artists. If you look at Heroes of the Storm for example, they keep the skins pretty cool and neat. With the exception of some more comedic skins, but even those are well made and fits in.
Well yeah they already have more heroes than there are classes in TF2, and TF2 writers are still having trouble giving each one enough attention. There are just too many characters to have spontaneously interacting in an interesting way. And then Overwatch has a model where heroes keep popping up like ads on roommate's adware-ridden craptop. It's just impossible to breathe life into every single one.
i disagree. dota 2 is an example of a game with dozens of fleshed out characters, even if some are less interesting than others

Not asking for each one of them to have some magificent backstory or character arc, just some personality.
i disagree. dota 2 is an example of a game with dozens of fleshed out characters, even if some are less interesting than others
"Here's x in your eye!" brilliantly fleshed out characters. [editline]31st October 2015[/editline] I think Blizzard understands that all that really should be required is a surface-level aesthetic for the characters. A unique look and sound for each so you can distinguish "This is Widowmaker, this is Reaper" instantly even at a distance. Then you sprinkle on some cool looks or lines to give a personality that's fun that acts as a little bonus coolness. If you watched the developer commentary on the design of TF2 characters, it's just like that. You know, before they threw all that out of the window for HAT CA$H

Blizzard is great at creating epic guys, but as epic guys are the only thing their last games contains... meh, I don't like them one bit, they all feel too generic for me. Hell, even some of them were done better in Super Monday Night Combat already.
Winston needs a huge buff, he looks pretty garbage tier useless right now His giant electric cannon seems to tickle people for 2 damage
Winston needs a huge buff, he looks pretty garbage tier useless right now His giant electric cannon seems to tickle people for 2 damage
Winston has pretty low DPS for a tank character, he gets insane survivability and more mobility than the usual tank to offset this, the ability to just leap away from danger whenever his health is low, his shield, and his ultimate all make him seem very difficult to kill. Winston's role isn't to deal a lot of damage but to distract/disrupt and soak up damage from the enemy team instead, his ultimate compliments this and it really shows in gameplay footage when Winston uses his ult and the whole enemy team focuses on taking him down.

Maybe I got used to Smite's crappy way of doing tank characters, but this game does tank characters very well and are important to have in a team comp to have a front line without being straight up op. Tank characters shouldn't be an all around character, you have to sacrifice something for all that health. For example: Roadhog has a pretty good burst combo with his chain grab, melee then shotgun. He has sustain but he lacks mobility, keeping him from just tearing shit up and being impossible to kill. Winston has a great shield for his teammates and objectives and negates a lot of damage with mobility, however his fairness is his lack of damage from afar. Reinhardt is great because of his mobile shield and team push capability, while lacking ranged damage. And Zyra is kind of an all around tank, not too tanky, has a shield to protect others and does moderate damage along with a really good cc ultimate. I like playing tank characters so watching this game makes me very happy to see these characters as almost irreplaceable in a team comp, but not overpowered to the point where you just go 6 Winstons and call it a day. You need that health and front line to push objectives and distract the enemy team's damage.
now i could be wrong but isn't rhineheart also mobile (ok not AS mobile) but also provides more for a team than winston?
Winston has escape options, his leap has an eight (?) second cooldown but he usually has enough health and armor to be able to leap in, deal some damage, and survive until he can get out safely. Reinhardt seems to rely far more on his team to deal with enemies that are further away, he has firestrike and his charge which cover some distance but both are slow and easily dodged if you're focusing on Reinhardt and you have enough space. If he tries to approach you with his shield up you can easily stay out of range because of how slowly he moves, so he needs his team to be cooperating to be fully effective.
i disagree. dota 2 is an example of a game with dozens of fleshed out characters, even if some are less interesting than others
They have a video about every single one, a short movie, and they put all of them in a comic where they all show off their personalities and abilities? TF2 is a pretty high standard to meet.

TF2 is a pretty high standard to meet.
A standard that has declined a lot as all the recent comics espically the one that we waited a year for the next installment of and the last 2 halloween comics are lackluster to say the least Once again all this for tf2 was not there at lauch and took 5-7 years to do videos for all the characters and stuff right? And even then some were lack luster like Meet the heavy compared to how much they imporved down the line with meet the medic and the man vs machine trailer With them having pixar right? It shouldnt be that hard to do stuff for, just give blizzard time and im sure the can put out some quality story cinematic's

even without the comics or meet the team videos i think the tf2 characters are all pretty memorable
lack luster like Meet the heavy compared to how much they imporved down the line with meet the medic and the man vs machine trailer
The early meet the team trailers were literally just the actor's audition reel.
This doesn't change the fact that TF2's character design is top-notch though.
you mean like the character models? yeah the base models are very nice in their simplicity but i feel that the artstyle in the 2 games are too different to compare with overwatchs futuristic artstyle and tf2's retro Having said that comparing say....miss pauling to widowmaker or perhaps symmetra i agree that blizzard really dropped the ball but its obvious to see why [T]http://www.nerfnow.com/img/1676/2688.png[/T] sniper rifle, boobies much like reaper this appeals to 13 year old CoD boys every where
Quick question for people who watched a lot of the beta/played it: Is it easy to differentiate ennemy heroes from allies? Is the only way to tell the marker above their head, or do they have different colors?
easy to differentiate ennemy heroes from allies? Is the only way to tell the marker above their head, or do they have different colors?
as seen in this video large distinct red health bars and red outline and blue head indicator for allies
Also enemy related effects are red (abilities, muzzleflashes, etc).
Doesn't help though that every visual effect is overdone.
Would prefer if the enemy players had alternative skins to differentiate them from allies so we wouldn't have those awful red healthbar/name/arrow on top of each enemy. Just a simple palette swap would suffice. Unfortunately that's never gonna happen, with the cosmetic skins coming along.
I wonder if she still likes being in that game when there will be Rule34 images of her hero soon.
I personally can't wait.

speaking of bastion I feel he is a very dull character and suffers from the same turtle engie issues in tf2; too effective with too little effort and very boring playstyle You already have heros defensive in nature and the dwarf hero who builds sentries why is a hero of bastions play style necessary?
You also have people like Bastion being totally grey and Reaper being totally black that causes a "blue or red mostly" color palette hard to do.
Yes, Reaper, Bastion and Reinhardt were pretty much the only ones giving me a headache while trying to come up with a reasonable color swap. Almost everyone else I've somewhat formulated an alternative palette for. Just gotta get off my ass and actually see what they look like by screwing around with photoshop.
I will never understand shooters that don't have very clear and distinct schemes per team. A lot of games become a complete mess if you can't immediately tell if someone is friendly or not.
