Except all of your teammates have their names above them and the enemy does not, that's a very easy way to discern friend from foe. "Hey they have no nameplate, start shooting" Alternatively, hey their nameplate is red, start shooting.
Quick question for people who watched a lot of the beta/played it: Is it easy to differentiate ennemy heroes from allies? Is the only way to tell the marker above their head, or do they have different colors?
I've watched a lot of different people paying beta over the last couple of days and not a single one has actually said 'oh, that was a teammate' at any point, so it can't be too bad.
Just because team recognition is "good enough" doesn't mean it couldn't have been better. However I can understand why they went with this system, it lets characters have more variety in their palette, and opens a bigger door for alt costumes. Less similar palettes also mean that, while it might be slightly harder to tell which team they are on, you can more easily tell which hero the enemy is playing, and this is kind of a big deal in a game that will keep getting more characters.
I just noticed that there isn't a random button during the hero select screen. Why? :why:
I just noticed that there isn't a random button during the hero select screen. Why? :why:
Because you could just close your eyes, wave your mouse around and pick. Or eenie meenie miney mo, it's really not that hard, man.
anyone who has trouble differentiating friend from foe in this game is senile seriously, they've got a red outline and no name if they're bad guys, it's fucking easy [editline]1st November 2015[/editline] unless you're colourblind which is a legitimate gripe
Would prefer if the enemy players had alternative skins to differentiate them from allies so we wouldn't have those awful red healthbar/name/arrow on top of each enemy. Just a simple palette swap would suffice. Unfortunately that's never gonna happen, with the cosmetic skins coming along.
healthbars are there for more reasons than just differentiating allies and enemies
They have a video about every single one, a short movie, and they put all of them in a comic where they all show off their personalities and abilities? TF2 is a pretty high standard to meet.
Creating videos for 100 different heroes is pretty hard. Just look how many times Valve had to postpone and rework their videos of TF2. Their 15 minute Expiration Date video took 1 1/2 years to do, because they had to rework all the time as some jokes just didn't work. And they didn't work at those vids all the time.
Yeah exactly my point. Making 9 characters interesting is hard enough, more than double that? Out of question.
since when does making a character interesting mean making a video for every single one of them
I just noticed that there isn't a random button during the hero select screen. Why? :why:
this is something i'm legit hoping blizzard adds i select random in fighting games semi-frequently
Yeah exactly my point. Making 9 characters interesting is hard enough, more than double that? Out of question.
Wut? No? Balancing should be even harder than making interesting characters. There is no need of videos. You can use animations, voice acting, etc. Once again the futiristic theme they use has been used so much there is little difference to me to start with, and even if crappier and half assed I much prefered SMNC.
I hope they never put hats or skins or anything in Everything is so simple now I don't want them to ruin it with bullshit trading and economy stuff
Not sure how legit this is, but it wouldn't be surprising if they go down the HotS route again: http://www.overpwn.com/news/85-possible-content-teaser-overwatch-strings
For Bastion, I could see something like this working. (Shitty PS mockup.)
My idea was more like having friendlies keep the original colors while the enemy players are palette swapped. But that looks quite neat as well.
Yeah exactly my point. Making 9 characters interesting is hard enough, more than double that? Out of question.
But Dota has 11x that much and all Dota characters are fairly interesting and unique.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/TuaVs9T.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/zfbXMtq.png[/t] Somebody mentioned earlier how they couldn't figure out a blue/red Reaper/Reinhardt, but I could see something like this working.
No fucking way you would spot the difference during the game unless literally nothing's happening at the moment.
Those are looking smokin'. Way more pleasing to the eye than the bulbous red outlines.
I was gonna do something similar last night when I saw this argument go down, but I was on my laptop. It looks great, really!
second reinhardt looks like he came straight out of metal slug
Reaper with a coloured cloak looks way better. Though to be fair, he's still a really out of place silly design.
Reaper with a coloured cloak looks way better. Though to be fair, he's still a really out of place silly design.
"Silly" is a funny word to use for the most grimdark character in the game.
"Silly" is a funny word to use for the most grimdark character in the game.
Do you even know what grimdark means? Reaper is just edgy.
Does Reaper just throw away his shotguns when he reloads? Dunno if it's just me seeing things, but it looks hilarious.
Do you even know what grimdark means? Reaper is just edgy.
I want to defend him, but "DIE DIE DIE DIE" is pretty damn edgy. Fuck it, nothing wrong with liking an edgy character once in awhile
tbh he's a silly cartoon villain in a silly cartoon game he's alright, nothing brilliant but not terrible
Does Reaper just throw away his shotguns when he reloads? Dunno if it's just me seeing things, but it looks hilarious.
He's like Drake of the 99 Dragons, calling himself a master assassin but just leaving weapons lying on the ground while pulling new ones out of hammer space just like that
I think the extreme edge and DIE DIE DIE just adds to how funny and likable he is. It's extreme, but not hatable. And like _charon said, the game is like a saturday morning cartoon. It kind of fits.
What I really love about Reaper's design are those belts full of ammo. Hell they're pretty much there just to say "Fuck you I got shotguns." as he doesn't even reload.
I just want to see more/better in game dialogue. TF2 does a great job of getting a lot of character across on that alone but Overwatch's in game dialogue feels a bit lacking.
