Overwatch's CE is up on Amazon. D.Va is on it, she has a mech.
Aaaaaaand it's gone.
Titanfall died quickly because it lacked content, it only lasted a month or so. Evolve had so much DLC bullshit announced before release that it was basically dead on arrival.
I played it for about a year and there was always at least 1k people playing when I played. I mean it's not great but 1k isn't what I'd consider dead. Evolve had a 300-400 player peak on pc a few months after release.
I'm a bit confused why people think buying characters is bad. SF4 had 19 characters at launch with 19 more added in content updates later. They were all sold. MKX had 25 characters at launch with 4 more added individually later. All sold. Season 2 is adding 4 more characters which are in the most likely case going to be sold. Mario Kart 8 had 6 characters for sale after release. Why is it suddenly bad now that Blizzard is doing it?
Nothing would kill this game faster than only having a handful of characters and having to buy the direct counters to other classes
You understand that what genre the game is plays an effect right? Bringing up Mario Kart makes me think it's a sarcastic post.
Maybe we should stop making comparisons to dota then. [editline]6th November 2015[/editline]
Nothing would kill this game faster than only having a handful of characters and having to buy the direct counters to other classes
there are no classes in overwatch [editline]6th November 2015[/editline]
These aren't DLC characters, these are the ones the game launches with, and you can't play all of them?
who said this
there are no classes in overwatch
Semantics. Heroes. Classes. You're well aware what he meant.
Maybe we should stop making comparisons to dota then. [editline]6th November 2015[/editline] there are no classes in overwatch
So you can't call them heroes because Dota uses that term. And you can't call them classes. What then?
So you can't call them heroes because Dota uses that term. And you can't call them classes. What then?
Heroes because that's the term Blizzard is using.
why not compare it to dota (or any other moba)? they're very similar when it comes to basic mechanics
I'd be totally Ok if this game cost like 40-50 bucks. It looks fun and well made.
This is SMNC 2, if anything. With TF2 turrets :v:
Also when I think about it, making comparisons to dota only worsens your argument. All heroes are free.
This is SMNC 2, if anything. With TF2 turrets :v:
smnc was more moba-focused, with creeps, gold and spongy heroes this is more of an arena fps with abilities
why not compare it to dota (or any other moba)? they're very similar when it comes to basic mechanics
Because it's not a moba. There are no purchasable items. No turrets. No bases. No creeps. No feeding or levels. It's simply man versus man and your level or character is not going to stop you from killing another person like any other moba.
Because it's not a moba. There are no purchasable items. No turrets. No bases. No creeps. No feeding or levels. It's simply man versus man and your level or character is not going to stop you from killing another person like any other moba.
And this is exactly why I compared it to fighting games.
And this is exactly why I compared it to fighting games.
Because you can swap your characters on the fly in fighting games. Oh wait
And this is exactly why I compared it to fighting games.
As much as I tend not to want to do it, the closest I can come to think of is TF2. The team themselves even said they took inspiration from it. Class and role based first person shooter. It even has a payload.
And this is exactly why I compared it to fighting games.
It makes even less sense to compare it to fighting games than to mobas.
And this is exactly why I compared it to fighting games.
It's a team-based arena shooter with MOBA style heroes and the ability to swap them on the fly. It's nothing like a fighting game.
Because you can swap your characters on the fly in fighting games. Oh wait
more in common != completely in common less in common != (!= (!= completely in common))
Overwatch's CE is up on Amazon. D.Va is on it, she has a mech. [t]http://i.imgur.com/VJvtEmB.jpg[/t]
Oh my god, she is so fucking adorable. Far more desirable than Tracer.
I'll spend however much on this game. Looks like the kind of game I could sink hundreds of hundreds of hours in.
Because it's not a moba. There are no purchasable items. No turrets. No bases. No creeps. No feeding or levels. It's simply man versus man and your level or character is not going to stop you from killing another person like any other moba.
it's not that binary though. it does have lots of common moba elements and i don't doubt most strategies that apply to mobas will apply to overwatch
I'll be like mostly everyone else and just download it for free one day.
more in common != completely in common less in common != (!= (!= completely in common))
Let me explain it like this: This game heavily relies on hero counters, lets say you get into the game, you're new, and you have around 4-5 heroes available to you based on a weekly rotation or something. you join a match, but what's this? Your teammates are also new players with the same hero pool as yours, but the enemy team consists of 6 players with a full roster of characters, characers with heavy defense values, and you and your teammates have no heroes that can counter the enemies' heroes Do you now see the issue?
No because that issue never expressed itself. There's never been any indication that the 21 existing heroes are on rotation or that you'd have only a limited number of heroes to begin with while the others are locked away through some means. And talking about "countering" like this is a game of rock paper scissors or something, it's actually an fps? try landing your shots dodging theirs instead of giving up because they picked a tanky character???
Anyone know where to watch the opening ceremony of Blizzcon? They will probably show all of the new Overwatch stuff there. That's bad, really bad. Also, still NOTHING LIKE FIGHTING GAME DLC. From point 1 in Fighting games you can play all the launch characters and learn their ways, play them how you want to for as long as you want to. DLC characters are merely extras. Your own argument breaks apart at the seams, without a full roster for everyone, you can't learn how every character works, who is good against others, and who fits your playstyle. I have literally no idea how you can compare superfluous extra characters to locking out the launch roster behind paywalls.

Blizzcon starts in (roughly) 40 minutes. You can watch it here: http://www.twitch.tv/team/blizzcon
