Overwatch - The world needs heroes, and Blizzard needs a TF2 game!
Overwatch is probably the most hyped game in YEARS.
There's no way it's not a huge success.
I don't know. It's hyped like crazy, but there's really just not that much content. People are going to blow through it in weeks after release. I mean, Overwatch already has trouble holding onto 10k total twitch viewers. It's even lower than games like H1Z1.
The interest is already fading.
If this is the case, the wording they keep repeating about the base game coming with 21 heroes confuses me.
Probably marketing speak, like TF2 was advertised as "Includes 9 unique classes!"
If this is the case, the wording they keep repeating about the base game coming with 21 heroes confuses me.
Maybe they mean the game will have 21 playable heroes on launch, with more coming in the future?

Beta does not contain all of the content that will be here on the release.
Also, it's Blizzard.
Literally doesn't matter how much it costs or what type of game it will be, this game will last a long time

It gets its content from being a competitive game, it's not a casual snorefest like Titanfall.
MOBAs have one map and one gamemode, usually the same or similar maps in each individual game, and they've been successful for nearly 20 years and in the past 5 or so have become one of the most successful genres around, just because of how competitive they are.
I could really explain this forever and ever, but the best example to use to explain it quickly would probably be Halo. Halo 3 and Reach were very competitive games, everybody started with the same weapons etc at the beginning of a match, and because of that, Halo 3 one year to the day after launch had 1.1 million concurrent players at the peak hours of the day. So roughly 10% of purchasers online at one time 1 year after launch. Halo Reach had the same 10% figure. Now jump forward to Halo 4, more maps, more gamemodes, more content, seems great. Problem is it was casual as shit. Perks, create a class, killstreak bonuses, the whole nine yards, jump forward one year after launch, barely pushing 15,000 concurrent players at the peak hours per day.
There's something to be said for content, sure, but there's way more to be said for pure competitive gameplay. It's the reason games like Counter-Strike and Starcraft, not to mention every fighting game franchise, can have the same maps, gamemodes, and guns for decades and still be hits every time a new one comes out.
Sorry for the wall of text, but this is a topic I've put a lot of thought into.
I think the viewers mainly dropped because the streamers they gave keys to like summit lirik ect who bring in 30k viewers no matter what game they play are doing other release deal streams for views, like the need for speed , soon fallout ect

yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I don't know if I'll be able to spend an extra twenty dollars JUST for this in good conscience, 'cause none of the other skins really interest me and I don't actually play many Blizzard games (I did play WOW, but gave up on it eventually) so the extra goodies are meaningless to me, but erurehgheruhghghhhh.
I adore everything about Mei (except, well, y'know, the voice), Genji looks super fun as well. I don't really like D.Va that much though.

ah nvm, directtv is somthing different should be on blizz stage
I can't think of another game that's had as much sustained and instantaneous hype behind it since the Orange Box.
fallout 4 has been sustaining hype since before it was even announced.
So have they said if there will be more skins/a skin shop?
If so, they better have alternate ways of unlocking tbh. Even TF2 started with craftable hats,

I think you're WAY oversimplifying it. Firstly, an incredibly huge part of MOBAs success has been that they've all been free to play. The original mod was free, LoL is free, and DOTA 2 is free (and probably has the most player benefiting F2P model in existence).
Starcraft might be the best example of an extremely popular game that had a full price game by in price. Of course it's also the only truly competitive RTS out there built specifically to be competitive. So there's really no competition.
In the end, we'll see, but I still think that the game will start out extremely popular, sales will dropoff a cliff after a few months, and the population will continually decline.

fallout 4, gta V, mgs 5
fallout 4, gta V, mgs 5
I'm as hyped for Fallout 4 as anybody, but it's the most hyped of the 3 and I wouldn't say it's on the level of the Overwatch hype.
fallout 4, gta V, mgs 5
So basically every big franchise game. Also, I think hardcore gamers over exaggerate the Overwatch hype a bit. A lot of my friends who play RPGs like Fallout really have no interest in it at all. Many didn't really know anything about it until I mentioned it to them.
Has Blizzard said anything about Australian servers? Paying $70 so I can play on 220 ping American servers is laughable.

Blizzard said that they are working on them in the beta announcement.
Checked, they only talked about Asian servers, sorry.
I've been hyped for Overwatch since it was announced, but in general the hype's seemed pretty middling.

don't forget HoN, which went F2P after only a year
Apparently a news network that's at Blizcon told Mulsek that you have a higher chance or get instantly into the beta if you pre-purchase.
But he also says to wait till details are out to see if that's true.
God, I really want this to be true. I was going all day thinking I'd be able to come home and just drop $40 and glue my ass to my chair for the weekend.
I know that was really optimistic, but I've been hangin' onto the smallest hope

Fallout 4 had so much hype that people were predicting it's announcement 2 years before it happened and an obvious hoax website tricked a ton of people.
MGS V had 2 solid years of hype after the original announcement of Ground Zeroes, and already had pre-hype from the Project Ogre screens they showed before that.
GTA V had a full year of hype before the original release and then gained new hype when the current gen versions were released, and it gained hype again when the PC version was released.
Overwatch had some hype when it was first shown off but that died down after the months of silence (and the rumours that the name would have to change for copyright reasons) which has only regained since the beta was released, and even then the hype isn't that much. I haven't seen anything about it except a couple of threads here and a few streamers playing the game.

After Hearthstone I'm honestly expecting Overwatch to suddenly spike in popularity once the beta opens up a little more.
HS wasn't all that popular when it was as closed as Overwatch too.
Kind of a shame to hear it's actually going to be a game you need to buy, but hell, I've made worse purchases. I'm probably going to get the Origins bundle cause I'm a sucker for nice cosmetics.

As long as heroes and maps are free, I think buy-in is perfectly fine. Even if there's paid cosmetics.
i bet the origins edition will come with beta access and the regular version won't
Best case scenario would be unlockable cosmetics after you've like completed hero specific missions or something.
But knowing today's industry it'll most likely be "BUY NOW ONLY $10!!"

Didn't datamining reveal stuff like master skins? That'll be mission/progress based probably.

The guy who was streaming overwatch a blizzcon did say about earning master skins with ingame currency, but ill wait for an official blizzard response
Some of the skins are sorta good (pharahs skin)
Some of the skins are great (bastions skin)
But some are just awful (Reaper, S76s skin)
They removed all of the traits that identified the character
You would identify Reaper by his jacket and his mask, but they completely removed those in the skin
Different color palettes are good, changing the entire model is bad.
