Can't wait to get my hands on this. Planning on preordering the Origin Edition soon.
I wouldn't preorder until we get a clear answer on the "will they sell future heroes" question. But hey, it's your money, do what you want.
I finished it!
Im really curious about how Reaper got his wraith-like abilities. Hopefully thats expanded upon in a cinematic
Im really curious about how Reaper got his wraith-like abilities. Hopefully thats expanded upon in a cinematic
That'll probably be in the prequel comic since it focuses on him pre-Reaper.
I wouldn't preorder until we get a clear answer on the "will they sell future heroes" question.
We probably won't get that answer, because they honestly probably don't know yet. If the game sells well and the playerbase stays consistent after launch you can bet your ass they will be selling heroes, if it doesn't do so well (or at least as well as they need to reach that BEP) they'll try something different.
Im really curious about how Reaper got his wraith-like abilities. Hopefully thats expanded upon in a cinematic
snippet from his bio
It is possible that he is a byproduct of failed genetic alteration which forces his cells to simultaneously decay and regenerate at a hyper-accelerated rate.
I'm not sure if this is even related to his wraith-like abilities though.
To be honest, they've already revealed too much about Reaper for my tastes. He works best with minimal backstory.

Atleast have the decency to archive it so they won't get any money.
"A lot of the free-to-play models that we were exploring involved people not having access to enough heroes to make those team compositions actually viable. We really didn't want to change the core gameplay and limit it in some way just to make the game free-to-play."
they seriously couldn't think of or consider a F2P model where heroes weren't behind a paywall?
they seriously couldn't think of or consider a F2P model where heroes weren't behind a paywall?
I guarantee they did. It's probably just PR talk to justify it.

I wonder if well get everyone's backstory animated or if Winston's backstory just ties in somehow with the rest of the video.
they seriously couldn't think of or consider a F2P model where heroes weren't behind a paywall?
They meant:
"A lot of the free-to-play models that we were exploring, that maximised our profit, involved people not having access to enough heroes to make those team compositions actually viable. We really didn't want to change the core gameplay and limit it in some way just to make the game free-to-play."
They know Blizzard fanboys will buy this at full pop. There's a reason nobody game devs don't try this type of model for this type of game.
they seriously couldn't think of or consider a F2P model where heroes weren't behind a paywall?
Considering no other F2P model like that has been successful, the only game that has used it and stayed online is Dota 2, and it's not fair to ask devs to use Dota 2's incredibly generous business model when they don't have Steam money making sure they don't need to make a profit off of games to be rich. Valve can basically ignore money when it comes to games because any money they lose from them they make back in Steam in 7 milliseconds, so they can do things no other dev can afford to do. When you drop millions of dollars to develop a game, and then continue pouring money into it to keep servers online, having maybe 15-25% of your players ever give you money isn't a viable option.

Furthermore I'm fairly certain that dota is entirely self sufficient with out needing steam considering that the last international netted them like 32 million from compendium related sales alone

Furthermore I'm fairly certain that dota is entirely self sufficient with out needing steam considering that the last international netted them like 32 million from compendium related sales alone
Hearthstone and WoW have their own servers to run and their own development costs, they can't subsidize another games expenses and pay for their own, especially when WoW's sub numbers are plummeting and Hearthstone was massively successful for a short time and rapidly fell off a cliff, be realistic here, Blizzard is a company, not a charity.
"...Then I think it's a matter of exploring the health of the game post-launch, what the community's like, what is the community tolerant of and not tolerant of."
Translation: "if the community is willing to pay for additional heroes, we're totally going to have paid heroes." Prove me wrong, Blizzard.
They might not realise that around half of the population who are anticipating Overwatch are from TF2

"There was also a misconception that we would be selling maps, and we've never had any intention of selling maps."
Oh yes, because having paid heroes at LAUNCH is clearly what everyone has been worrying about.
-I am the dumb one-

WoW and hearthstone print money. in fact if anyone could do it other than valve it's them!
I heard beta closes before Jan?
According to the FAQ.
Q. How long will the Closed Beta last? This phase of the Closed Beta will conclude before the end of the year. We don’t have an exact date to share at this time, but we’ll be sure to provide testers with advanced notice.
Also the paid entry prolly decreased my hype-o-meter by 70%. Not only it costs a fuckton in my country, we aren't guaranteed to have a low-latency community to hang out with.
I gotta say, despite his gameplay being mainly ranged, i like that Kenji didn't become some kind of cloak assassin, way less frustrating to play against.
I have to say that although they chose Soldier 76 for the figurine, it does look good the way they did it. [t]http://overwatch.ingame.de/files/2015/11/ow_collectorsedition.jpg[/t]
it looks alright but i'd have preferred an action pose
Someone straight up asked about diversity in sexuality and they said something along the lines of "Yeah there's at least but we don't want to get to pander-y"
That's one thing that makes me glad; not so much that there's a gay character because I don't care either way, but they're not pandering to them like "we'll throw this lesbian, this gay and this trans-sexual in to pander to all the diversities" Like, I play a game to fucking relax and enjoy myself, not to go all fucking PC and shit.

It said preorder avaliable (PC, PS3 and Xbone) on mine before changing into that.
